  1. It was a nice day, sun was shining whenever it wasn't obscured by clouds. It was warm enough when there wasn't wind and it only rained occasionally. In short a perfect day in the seaside, if you liked that kind of thing.
  2. Jane enjoyed the day, surprisingly, but only because she had a date. She stopped for the third time in a clothing store and pretended to look at clothes, when she just wanted to use the mirror to make sure she looked nice. She was wearing a muggle outfit, she was a bit uncomfortable about how well it accentuated her figure. She wished she could have worn her loose work robes, but it would've stuck out too much. Instead she was wearing a form fitting denim pants, that were making her hips really noticeable; a dark-gray turtleneck sweater; and plain walking shoes with no heels, she couldn't understand why muggles and even some wizard women woder those dreadful things. Sure they made her look taller, but she was comfortable being comfortable and short.
  3. "Waiting for your date?"
  4. Jane yelped and looked around to see the shopkeeper lady looking at her.
  5. "Don't worry, use the mirror as long as you like..."
  6. Jane blushed intensely.
  7. "...Sorry."
  8. "It's no problem, you were looking at yourself so worried. Let me guess, you haven't seen him in a long time."
  9. "Yeah, over a year since I saw him last time..."
  10. The cashier smiled.
  11. "You look cute as a button, you shouldn't stress yourself up with mirrors. If he's deprived of you for that long he'll probably jump into your arms even if you were wearing rags."
  12. "Thank you."
  13. Jane bowed at the cashier a bit awkwardly and left the store.
  14. Jane looked at the watch, she had 30 minutes before she was supposed to meet him, she looked around for something to pass her time. She saw plenty of muggle attractions, but she didn't want to walk around too much alone. Exploring the town was the whole point of their date in muggle town.
  15. She was about to walk to the place they were meeting and find a bench when she saw a muggle establishment that sold quickly made muggle food. She had a soft spot for the popular muggle hamburgers. And she hadn't eaten breakfast, she decided she'd get a cheeseburger so she could last till they went to eat somewhere.
  16. Jane walked in the store and looked at her muggle currency, she had purposefully taken bills that she could just use and just trust she got the change back. She was competent with muggle money, but their paper money was novel and they had way too many coins. Sure they had the numbers on them and they were all based on number 10, but recognizing the coins themselves wasn't intuitive.
  17. Jane looked at the menu and made sure she got the right bill in hand before going to order, then she walked to a free cashier.
  18. "Can I take your order?"
  19. "Yeah, uhmm... I'll have a cheeseburger."
  20. Jane didn't wait to listen to the total, she just gave the employee a five pound bill and took the change. The server simply took a ready wrapped burger from behind her and handed it to Jane.
  21. Jane decided to eat her burger on the way to the meeting point, she unwrapped the burger on the way and took a bite while walking. She was glad she didn't go out to muggle areas more often than that, atleast no on unofficial business or she might end up eating more of these burgers. Especially knowing how greasy and bad they were for her, and she was still self-conscious of her weight, and it all going in her chest and hips.
  22. She had just taken the last bite of her burger, which was bigger than she thought and to top it off the wrapper had ketchup on it, which was now on the tip of her nose. She was about to crumple the wrapper and get a napkin from her bag when she heard someone call her.
  23. "Jane!"
  24. Jane quickly crumpled the paper and started chewing faster, she felt her face going red. The first time she sees him in a long time she had her mouth full of burger and ketchup on her nose. She thought about disapparating away in embarrassment, but it would've caused more work for her department.
  25. She felt an arm wrap around her shoulder and when she looked up, she saw his smile. That confident up-to-no-good smile of his.
  26. She still had food in her mouth and she wanted to turn away, but instead she started smiling dimly at the sight of him and just finished chewing the burger. When she swallowed the rest of her food she smiled.
  27. "Anon..."
  28. The boy had gotten taller and his shoulders were wider, he was wearing an odd combination of gray pants with large pockets, a purple shirt and black sneakers. She noticed the boy put his hand into one of his pocket and rummaged around for a bit. She realized he had enchanted his pockets and they were probably full of stuff, the boy pulled out a napkin.
  29. Jane remembered at that point that she had something on her nose and went red again.
  30. "You got something on your nose."
  31. Anon wiped the ketchup off her nose.
  32. Jane started getting embarrassed for eating a burger just before her date and having her mouth full when she met Anon after such long time.
  33. "I skipped breakfast, so I thought I'd get something to eat before the date... I wasn't expecting you to be early."
  34. Anon laughed and pulled flustered girl closer.
  35. "I was going to be late, but I apparated here like five minutes ago."
  36. Jane stopped smiling and got serious.
  37. "Anon, you don't have your apparition license yet..."
  38. "I know, but it wasn't going to be late just because my original transportation was late."
  39. Jane sighed, he was still breaking rules. She stopped and walked infront of Anon and started turning his head around and looked around his body.
  40. "Are you okay?"
  41. Anon coughed awkwardly.
  42. "Yeah, I didn't splinch... Much..."
  43. Jane noticed Anon was keeping his left arm behind him. She pulled it out and inspected it, sure enough, the boy had left half of a fingernail behind.
  44. "Anon! That could've been much worse!"
  45. Jane pulled Anon to an alley and looked around before pulling her wand out and pointed it at the broken nail, with a flash of light the nail repaired itself.
  46. The boy sighed out of relief and looked at his finger.
  47. "Thanks, that's much better."
  48. Jane sighed.
  49. "I should fine you..."
  50. "Just reduce my house points, I really didn't want to make you wait, after how little time we're going to have together."
  51. Jane giggled, she couldn't stay mad at him, instead she just pulled him down for an embrace, Anon started stroking Jane's hair and took in the scent of it. the two just stood there for a while enjoying the moment.
  52. "I am glad to see you."
  53. When the two pulled bad, Anon smiled at the girl and suddenly raised his eyebrows and grinned wider.
  54. "I have a surprise for you later."
  55. Jane tilted her head.
  56. "Oh, what is that?"
  57. Anon smiled his infuriatingly self-confident smile.
  58. "You'll see later."
  59. Jane scoffed and pouted at Anon's teasing.
  60. "That's not very nice."
  61. "I know, let's go walk around for a bit."
  62. Anon held his arm out, the same way he had so many times before. But now instead of being coy and keeping her distance, Jane embraced the boy's arm and got close to him, she wanted to forget about all the stress she had and just pretended to be a schoolgirl again going on a date with her boyfriend with no worries about anything.
  63. The two walked around for their planned meeting spot on a wooden deck over a beach, they spent some time sitting on a bench and just watching the sea. Jane was leaning on Anon and just sighed contently. It was picturesque day, the only sounds around were the wind, the sea and some strange sounds coming from a nearby booth that flashed every now and then.
  64. "How are your studies going?"
  65. "I was just about to ask you how your work was, but guess you were faster."
  66. Anon paused for a bit. Jane noticed it and looked at Anon.
  67. "Studies are going well, and I promise you I have been staying out of trouble, mostly."
  68. "I heard hufflepuff has won every house cup since you started, and you've always played a huge part in it."
  69. Anon scratched his cheek with his just healed finger and looked away embarrassed.
  70. "I am so proud of you, I am a bit disappointed to hear that you've not become the rule-abiding model student I wanted you to be, but you have your reasons. Just don't let it affect your future. They might look at your school records when you apply for auror."
  71. Anon laughed and smiled at Jane.
  72. "I'm going to be an auror?"
  73. Jane leaned back on the boy and closed her eyes.
  74. "Not immediately, you will apply for magical law enforcement first..."
  75. Anon wrapped his arm around the girl tighter and chuckled.
  76. "I don't know about becoming an auror."
  77. "I am not going to let you run around the world as a cursebreaker. But you probably want something adventurous."
  78. "Actually, I was thinking of something a bit more mundane..."
  79. Jane looked at Anon and realized he was being serious.
  80. "...Yeah, I think I might apply for a regular ministry job."
  81. Jane started giggling.
  82. "I can't believe I am going to be the thrillseeker considering taking challenging jobs."
  83. "About that... You know I will support you with everything, but..."
  84. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'll just think of you the whole time."
  85. Anon looked at the sea and tried to think of something to say, but he noticed dark spots appear on the wooden structure.
  86. "Ah, the summer weather in coastal England... Do you want to go walk around and seek shelter from the rain."
  87. "No, let's just sit here a while longer."
  88. Anon covertly took out his wand and pointed it up and wordlessly summoned an invisible umbrella and covered the girl with it.
  89. Jane sighed again and didn't open her eyes.
  90. "I should fine you again for that..."
  91. Anon smiled and enjoyed the warmth coming from the girl.
  92.
  93. After a while the two got up and started walking about in the quaint town, it wasn't very large, but obviously built for tourists as there were a lot of shops and other entertainment establishments.
  94. Anon looked around, he stopped to look at a weird store with flashing lights coming out of the doorway. He turned back to Jane.
  95. "Do you want to go shopping? I don't understand muggle money at all, I have... fifteen thousand punds, is that enough?"
  96. "Pounds, Anon, and that is a huge amount of money. Where did you get all that muggle money?"
  97. "I told my aunt I was going to go on a date and she suggested this town and gave me muggle currency."
  98. "Your aunt has that much muggle money?"
  99. "Well, she is a muggle and she got all this money from a lottorry."
  100. "Oh, I don't want to use your aunt's money."
  101. "I'll pay her back, don't worry about it. Just get whatever you want, I'll return any that remains to her."
  102. Jane smiled and looked around for the shops. There were quite a lot of them to pick from, there were a few jewelry stores, clothing stores and the odd store selling weird plastic trash with union jacks for tourists.
  103. "Well, alright then, I do want something as a memento."
  104. Jane and Anon looked around at the shop windows for something to get.
  105. "What about this necklace?"
  106. Jane walked up to Anon and looked that a necklace he was pointing.
  107. "It's beautiful, but way too expensive."
  108. "I don't even know how many galleons three thousand pounds is..."
  109. Jane sighed and furrowed her brows.
  110. "You really should start learning basics of muggle society, Anon."
  111. "It would seem so, what about this? It's cheaper."
  112. Anon pointed at a silver necklace.
  113. "five hundred pounds is still too much, but look behind it."
  114. Jane pointed at two silver picture-frames.
  115. "Picture frames?"
  116. "Yeah, come!"
  117. Jane pulled Anon in the store and picked out two silver picture frames. The cashier looked at Anon weirdly for paying for the purchase with five hundred pound bill.
  118. "Is that not enough?"
  119. Jane nudged at Anon and pointed out the till that showed the total being 37 pounds.
  120. "OH, Haha, I meant to..."
  121. Anon took the bill back and rummanged his pockets for a bit and pulled out a wad of money and picked out a 50 pound bill instead.
  122. The cashier took the bill and gave Anon his change, which he just threw in his pocket.
  123. "Sorry, not from around here..."
  124. Jane was snickering when the amused cashier gave the picture-frames in a small plastic bag. Jane took Anon's hand and started leading him back to the beach.
  125. "Where are we going?"
  126. "You'll see."
  127. The two got back to the deck and Jane lead Anon to the booth where he had seen the weird flashing earlier. There was a tent with an open wall pointing at the sea and with a bench.
  128. "Oh, it's a camera... Tent... Thing."
  129. Jane smirked and they waited in line to get their picture taken.
  130. Anon was reading the sign.
  131. "30 minutes, that's pretty quick, right? Or, well, I've never used a camera, but my uncle said enchanting the pictures takes a while."
  132. Some of the people in the line turned and looked at Anon weirdly, Jane noticed it and nudged the boy again.
  133. "Developing, not enchanting."
  134. "Is that what they call it here?"
  135. The people realized Anon must have been foreigner with strange grasp of language and turned away.
  136. Anon wrapped his arms around Jane while they waited in line and started stroking her hair.
  137. "I like what you did with your hair."
  138. Jane smiled, she had got her hair cut a bit shorter than usual, but it still had an authoritative no-nonsense kind of look. Except when it was ruffled around by Anon.
  139. Jane let out a long sigh.
  140. "I've missed your massages... I could use them now, more than ever."
  141. Anon stepped behind the girl and started massaging her scalp while their waited. She was about to protest about him messing up her hair before getting a picture taken of them, but it felt too good.
  142. People were snickering at Anon's weird displays of affection, but the boy had zero self-awareness to even notice what he was doing might be a bit weird and Jane just didn't care about what the muggles thought about her.
  143. Before it was their turn Jane told Anon to stop and got her hairbrush from her bag and told him to hold a mirror infront of her while she fixed her hair.
  144. When it was their turn, Jane walked up to the cameraman and paid for two copies of a picture and got a slip of paper which she put in her bag. The two sat down on the bench and smiled at the camera while leaning on eachother.
  145. After they got their picture taken they walked back to the street with all the shops.
  146. Anon looked around at the shops and then back to Jane.
  147. "Do you want to keep shopping?"
  148. "No, I think I have almost everything I wanted from here."
  149. "I think I might buy a tie to go with my shirt."
  150. Anon looked around at the clothing stored trying to figure out which one might sell ties.
  151. "Oh, I think I saw some ties in a shop nearby."
  152. Jane took Anon's hand again and started leading him around again, the two of them walked past the fast food restaurant and into the shop Jane used a mirror in earlier.
  153. "Oh, you decided to bring your boyfriend this time."
  154. The lady behind the counter said smiling at the couple.
  155. "Oh, hello."
  156. Anon bowed at the shopkeeper awkwardly.
  157. Jane looked at the shopkeeper.
  158. "He wants to buy a tie."
  159. The lady walked around the counter and lead the two of them to a rack with ties.
  160. "Skinny or wide?"
  161. "Uhh, skinny..?"
  162. Anon looked at Jane.
  163. The shopkeeper laughed
  164. "You're looking in the right direction for answers."
  165. She pulled out a tie from the rack and gave it to Anon. Both she and Jane started staring at Anon, who hadn't realized he had walked into an awkward situation.
  166. Anon took a deep breath and put the tie around his neck and started tying it.
  167. "Well, this one knows how to tie a windsor."
  168. "I'd have to scold him if he didn't, it was part of his uniform."
  169. Anon blushed a little and looked at himself trough a mirror.
  170. "How does it look?"
  171. Jane smiled at his slightly unorthodox clothes.
  172. "It looks good, dear..."
  173. Anon untied the knot and followed the shopkeeper, who put it in a bag. This time Anon looked at the total on the till before shoving the biggest bill he had at the shopkeeper.
  174. The shopkeeper laughed.
  175. "Your girlfriend came here earlier, all worried about her looks."
  176. Jane was a bit further away looking at shirts and blushed.
  177. "She did?"
  178. "Yeah, poor thing, I told her she looked cute enough."
  179. "She always does."
  180. Anon laughed and paid his tie and followed Jane outside before shoving the bag in one of his pockets.
  181. "What do you want to do next? Are you hungry yet?"
  182. "Let's wait to get the pictures first before we go eat."
  183. Anon looked at his clock.
  184. "Yeah, so we have 25 minutes till they're enchanted."
  185. "Developed."
  186. "Yeah, that..."
  187. Jane giggled at Anon's weird ignorance, it felt so uncharacteristic to the boy who was prodigious with everything magic related, but hopeless when it came to muggle society. She had to scold him later about it and force him to take muggle studies, it wasn't very good that he was so out of place when he walked outside the magical society, especially now that the world was starting to get smaller and the magical world even moreso.
  188. Jane noticed Anon was staring at something and turned to see at what he was looking at.
  189. "Jane, what is an arcade?"
  190. Jane stopped to think about it for a while, she's pretty sure she had read the word before, but she couldn't for the life of her remember what it was.
  191. Anon walked a bit closer and peered in trough a window.
  192. "Wanna go check it out?"
  193. Jane was a bit hesitant.
  194. "Sure..."
  195. The two of them walked in and were immediately assaulted by flashing lights and weird sounds coming from these muggle machines with bright screens and stuff happening on them.
  196. Jane looked around for a bit and read about the tokens next to the cashier.
  197. "I think you buy those tokens and play the muggle games with them."
  198. Anon walked up to the bored looking guy leaning on his arm at the counter.
  199. "Greetings... Uhh..."
  200. Anon looked at the exchange rate and just put a 50 Pound bill on the counter.
  201. "That many..."
  202. The guy at the register started piling tokens on a cardboard tray and put it on the counter and pushed it towards Anon.
  203. "Enjoy yourselves..."
  204. "Thank you."
  205. Anon walked back to Jane and looked around.
  206. "What do you want to try first?"
  207. "I don't know what to do with any of these."
  208. "Me either, let's try that Pac-man one first."
  209. Jane was reading the instructions on on the machine when Anon shoved his first token in the machine and the game started.
  210. "Look at this weird cheese wheel looking thing eating those dots."
  211. Anon didn't do very well on his first try and moved over and let Jane try, she got a bit further than Anon, even managing to eat one of the ghosts
  212. "Oh, those are ghosts... Man, imagine eating the fat friar after some huge pill"
  213. Jane giggled and moved over to let Anon have a try, Anon took a few tokens from the tray and put them in his pocket and gave the tray to Jane who went to look for other games to try.
  214. Anon tried to get further with eating the ghosts and managed to get on a second level before getting cornered again by the ghosts.
  215. "Damn ghosts, must have relation to the bloody baron."
  216. Anon looked around and tried other games while Jane had found a game she liked about shooting some enemies slowly advancing down.
  217. Anon walked to another machine infront of the counter and put his hand in his pocket and put a token in the machine, but went pale when he realized he had put his hand in the wrong pocket. He looke at the machine worried for a bit and realized it had accepted the coin. He started sweating and just glanced at the cashier and tried to not draw attention to himself.
  218. He tried to play the game but he got destroyed by a spaceship crashing into his, he looked at the machine, it was the same one Jane was playing a bit further back. He took a deep breath and went to Jane.
  219. "Look Anon, it let me write my name on it... Well, only three letters, so I wrote JNA"
  220. Anon put his arms around Jane.
  221. "Cute."
  222. "This place is fun, I didn't know muggles had these weird flashy places with televisions that you can play games on."
  223. "Yeah... Uhh... Jane..."
  224. Jane turned to look at nervous Anon.
  225. "Is something wrong? Did you get a headache from the flashing lights, I have a potion for it. I just took a sip myself."
  226. "No, uhh."
  227. Anon took a deep breath.
  228. "I put a sickle in one of the machines."
  229. "Anon!"
  230. "Sorry, I zoned out in the fun and took a coin from the wrong pocket. Weirdly enough, it accepted it, the tokens must be exactly the same size as sickles, weird, huh?"
  231. Jane rubbed her temples and sighed.
  232. "Alright, which machine was it?"
  233. "The Gal... Galaga, the one you were playing too."
  234. Jane grabbed Anon's shirt and pulled him to the machine where he had broken the international statute of magical secrecy, though not in a direct way, but still. Leaving currency around was still a breach.
  235. Anon leaned towards Jane.
  236. "Look, I still have the trace on me, if I didn't I'd get it back myself, the machine has a lock on it, it must be where the guy takes the tokens out of the machine and redistributes them." He whispered.
  237. "Distract the cashier while I get the sickle..."
  238. Anon walked up to the cashier and tried to turn him to look away from the machine.
  239. "So, why do they call it an Arcade?"
  240. "My manager explained it to me once, it was something about arches or something... I don't remember, it doesn't matter. This is what Arcade means now, a place where you can play Pac-Man."
  241. "Oh the ghost game? I liked that one, the ghosts look a bit cartoony, not like the ghosts we have around."
  242. The cashier looked at Anon strangely.
  243. "Oh shit, there are no ghosts..."
  244. "Dude, you alright, do you need go outside for a bit?"
  245. The cashier looked at Jane.
  246. "What the..."
  247. Jane turned around, she had just cast alohomora on the machine and was going trough the tokens for the sickle.
  248. "Anon!"
  249. "Sorry, dear!"
  250. "Immobulus!"
  251. The cashier froze up, Anon immediately went and pulled him back from sight and took his cap and walked up to Jane trying to look like an employee.
  252. "You're not this clumsy when you're going around breaking curses and finding vaults. I hope!"
  253. "Sorry, I am nervous... I feel out of place."
  254. Jane sighed.
  255. "It's fine, just help me find the sickle."
  256. "Why don't you accio it?"
  257. Jane stared at Anon for a while."
  258. "Right, right..."
  259. Anon went back to dig the pile of tokens in the machine until he found the sickle, the two quickly shoved the tokens from the floor into the machine.
  260. "I'm going to have to write a report of this now."
  261. "Sorry, Jane, I didn't mean to."
  262. "It's fine, let me obliviate the muggle and then we'll get out of here."
  263. Anon stepped back and let Jane work, he was watching two younger boy play the Pac-Man when Jane came back.
  264. "Okay, let's go get out pictures now."
  265. Anon looked at the boys and put the cardboard tray with the rest of their tokens on the counter next to the machine.
  266. "Here you go, boys, have fun."
  267. The boys looked at the free tokens surprised.
  268. "Thanks, Mister!"
  269.
  270. Anon followed Jane a bit awkwardly after all the trouble he had caused.
  271. "Sorry about that, Jane."
  272. Jane stopped and waited for Anon to catch up to her and wrapped herself around his arm again.
  273. "It's alright, I still had fun."
  274. The two went back to the camera booth and Jane gave the paper to the man there and got an envelope with the two pictures in. She gave the envelope to Anon, who took out one of the pictures, while Jane was going trough her bag for the frames Anon had bought.
  275. "You look cute in this picture, I think I'll keep it in my nightstand."
  276. "I think I'll keep mine on my desk at work."
  277. Jane took out the frames and took the back off one, Anon gave her one of the picture and she slid it in place and locked the backplace back on and gave it to Anon.
  278. Anon and Jane went back to the bench they had sat on earlier and looked at the pictures.
  279. "I think developed was the wrong word for it, this picture of yours is enchanted."
  280. Jane giggled at Anon's corny line and leaned on him.
  281. "I had a good time, Anon."
  282. "We need to do something like this again."
  283. "You don't have many years of school left... We can do this more often then."
  284. Anon and Jane watched the sunset.
  285. After a while Anon looked at Jane who smiled back at him.
  286. "Oh! I nearly forgot, I have something to show you."
  287. Jane backed off a bit and watched Anon put his hand in his pocket and felt around it for a bit, until he pulled out an envelope and gave it to Jane.
  288. Jane turned it around in her hands and noticed it had something in it.
  289. "Wait... Did they..."
  290. Jane opened the letter and pulled out a badge with a P infront of a badger crest. She read the letter confirming that Anon Ymous had indeed been chosen to be a prefect.
  291. Jane embraced the boy tightly.
  292. "I am so proud of you!"
  293. "I'm not much of a troublemaker anymore, am I?"
  294. Jane smiled contently.
  295. "I guess not, though I will always remember you as a troublemaker."
