  1. Pokemon Heart Gold Kenya FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What does Kenya mean?
  4. A: Doing a glitchless speedrun with Kenya, the gift given Spearow in Goldenrod City.
  5.
  6. Q: Is this run Manipless or not?
  7. A: This run will be Manipless, because it is a race.
  8. I'm considering doing some runs myself after this race which would have RNG manip.
  9. (Given Kenya always has the same IVs, the only things that would change are getting no encounters before Repels, and most relevantly, getting Pokerus.)
  10.
  11. Q: So is this faster than using Raikou?
  12. A: No, the entire point of an alt Pokemon run is that it is not the fastest way to beat the game. Otherwise it would just be...the fastest way, and it'd be the main category.
  13.
  14. Q: So how much slower is this going to be?
  15. A: A fair bit. This should be able to get sub 4 though, and the Glitchless run with Raikou sits at 3:33
  16.
  17. Q: How good is Kenya?
  18. A: Pretty damn good. Probably a top 5 mon at beating the game.
  19.
  20. Q: What are the hardest fights in this run?
  21. A: Jasmine definitely is at big one - but of course, Red too.
  22.
  23. Q: What are Kenya's IVs?
  24. A: Given it is an in game gift, Kenya always has the same IVs. They are: 15 HP, 20 Att, 15 Def, 20 Sp Att, 20 Sp Def, 20 Speed with a Hasty Nature and its ability is Keen Eye.
  25.
  26. Q: Why do you pick Cyndaquil as the starter?
  27. A: To go through the early part of the game as fast as possible.
  28.
  29. Q: What are the moves you use in the run?
  30. A: Aerial Ace, Mirror Move, Pursuit, Hyper Beam, Return, Fly, Drill Peck.
  31.
  32. Q: What are the rules for alt main pokes?
  33. A: You can find the rules across the series here: https://pastebin.com/uTqgXp6m
  34.
  35. ---
  36.
  37. Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator?
  38. A: No, I'm playing on a 3DS with a capture board installed allowing me to record game footage
  39.
  40. Q: Why do you play as the girl?
  41. A: The counterpart does the catching tutorial, and the male does it faster, so it’s faster to choose the female for yourself
  42. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI1-PJ7Sy1w
  43.
  44. Q: Why do you name yourself 'I'?
  45. A: Because it's faster to name them one character for text purposes, and the letter 'I' gives a nice spin as if the game was self-narrating
  46.
  47. Q: Do you catch anything else?
  48. A: Wooper (for Surf/Whirlpool/Surf) and Snorlax (for Rock Climb)
  49.
  50. Q: What is WR?
  51. A: No runs have been done as of yet. Despite the fact there was a previous race done, technically every single person who finished ended up having an invalid run (mostly because we all killed extra things with Quilava after Whitney without using Kenya to try and raise happiness, which isn't allowed under the ruleset).
  52. Of course this includes myself, so even my "PB" isn't technically valid. It was the winning race time though, so that would be the time I'd be trying to "beat" per se.
  53.
  54. Q: What is your goal time?
  55. A: To win the race.
  56.
  57. Q: Do you plan to do other Alt Pokemon runs?
  58. A: Yeah, in the future. I've already done a few of these in other games, which you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKdCHbtiZdhA63-FROqfqamattnoWR0xd
  59.
  60. I've got quite a few more on my list to do in the future (mostly across Gen 4/5). I definitely don't need suggestions on more - I've thought about and considered everything you can imagine. It's hard to find the right mix of something you get early enough in the game that is actually still interesting to use. But I've certainly got some more planned, it just takes a long time to route the whole game with something else.
