  2. Man first landed on Mars in 2041, a permanent small colony was establish in 2063 starting with a thousand of the best and brightest scientists Earth had to offer. Decades later the planet was changed from a haven for science and learning into corporate endeavour with the discovery of plasma in 2395 on Mars. Martian plasma however was expensive to extract as there was little of it and it was unpure and the corporations came and went when better sources were found in distant places like Neptune or Tau Ceti. Mars began with a huge growth level as the rush and excitement of the first planetary colonisation venture went underway but after a hundred years the population growth dropped to a slow and steady growth level until the plasmarush of the early 2400's which caused a population boom for a couple of decades. In 2525 the population began to slowly decline from emigration as the terraforming project came to a stand still for lack of funding. The population has just dipped below 2 billion for the first time in a century.

  6. Mars since the first colony has been a direct democracy, with the ease of access for technology and the intelligent population at the time it was agreed to be the best option. In the Martian golden age this was abused by the transnational corporations that plundered the planet for it's plasma wealth, every year using their large amount of employees to vote for lower and lower corporation tax and less restrictive worker rights. Even after the mass exodus of corporations from Mars many remained behind and transferred into research facilities for this new plasma, still holding massive control the corporations of Mars have maintained a grip on it's democracy and kept Mars as the worst place to work for hundreds of years.

  9. The population of Mars is very densely packed into 7 big cities, there are a few science outposts away from the cities and some plasma refinerys far from civilisation. The capital city, New Ontario, is carved underground beneath the mountain of Olympus Mons and holds 40% of the planet's total population, most people in the city have never seen the sun with their own eyes and only know man made lighting. Some rogue settlements exist on the surface, small colonies and communes for those with nowhere else to go. Whilst the land is legally owned nobody cares enough to remove them as land on mars is very cheap and most of the planet lacks valuable resources. These small isolated communes have became a haven for various extremist groups, many in response to the friendly relations with alien species have cropped up. These pro-human xenophobic groups fled to Mars en masse to establish a society that fit their beliefs, many other persecuted groups including the pro-xenos alliance have done the same in hopes to live life free of governments and corporations meddling in their affairs.

  12. The people of Mars are known to be hardworking industrious folk, the original colonists came from many Earth nations but mostly from western Europe and Asia. The harsh conditions of the planet mean most people live in poor conditions and have become comfortable living without the luxuries or living room other SolColonies have. Suprisingly Mars is the only settled body in the Sol system that has a majority population that indentifies as solely heterosexual.
