  20. Sometimes when you have a dirty job to do, it’s best to get it done. Better than letting it fester. In the previous world the Joker had tricked Superman into killing his pregnant wife and destroyed Metropolis with a Nuke. This was undone by time travel but he had proven he was too dangerous to stay in that world. I had promised Batman I wouldn’t kill him and as annoying as it was I was I had been determined to keep that promise.
  21.
  22. This world I had come to now was one without hope. Some strange parasite had overwhelmed humanity. It struck fast and hard, turning it into a death world. So in a way it was perfect for what I needed to do.
  23.
  24. I found myself in an old but strangely secure cabin in the woods. It had no electricity or running water as both of those were long gone but it had some lamps for light and there was a stream nearby and we were far from the remnants of civilization.
  25.
  26. The first step was to summon a few of my magically inclined companions and we set up a secure perimeter with magic. Nothing was getting in without our knowing and allowing it. I then started crafting rings of sustenance for everyone. This meant food would not be an issue. I also made one special one that automatically let me scry on the wearer at any time at any distance.
  27.
  28. Next Step involved a lot of travel. It was eerie honestly flying over mostly empty dark cities. I saw zombies roaming about looking for food. I didn’t see signs of any humans. I saw that nature was beginning to overtake civilization in places with new growth of grass through cracked pavement. It was disheartening. Of course I had kind of signed up for that. It reminds me of the scene from scrubs where the character asks “Where do you think you are?”
  29.
  30. I made it eventually deep into the arctic. It had been a long trip. I had emptied most of my inventory before I left and picked up a bunch of books from a library.
  31.
  32. Deep in the arctic far away from anything I used a spell to permanently create shelter and a zone of comfort. I dropped off the books (I am not a complete monster) and then I took out a modified Pokeball and let the worst version of the Joker free upon the world.
  33.
  34. He was disoriented at first saying “Toto I have a feeling this isn’t Gotham anymore” before laughing his twisted laugh. I explained his current circumstances to him minus a few facts.
  35.
  36. He just laughed at me and asked me how long I thought this would keep him. He told me he would make it back to Metropolis, He would enact his plan and he would destroy Superman’s life.
  37.
  38. I gave him a blank look and blinked “Metropolis? Superman? Oh you are talking about the last world. Yeah, we are in a completely different Multiverse that’s not connected to the one you are from. There are no heroes or villains. There are barely any humans left. There are a lot of zombies though. You might want to avoid civilization” I explained as I took to the sky.
  39.
  40. I heard him shout “Wait, Stop… that’s not funny, you can’t just leave me here.” It turns out he was wrong as that’s what I did. I left him the ring with a note that said it would take care of his need for food. I used scrying to make sure he put it on. Almost immediately he started tearing pages out of the books and stuffing them in his suit for insolation. I had expected this. He looked quite silly with his clothes stuffed with paper. He started to walk, I don’t know where. Maybe I should have informed him that on my way there I had seen some nasty storm clouds heading in his direction… then again… maybe not.
  41.
  42. I checked in on him periodically. Honestly I kind of expected him to ditch the ring eventually but one day I was surprised to find that my scrying wound up on the inside of a polar bear den.
  43.
  44. Invisibly I went to check. I found part of a mangled body I could barely identify with a sleeping polar bear that looked like it had been sprayed by Joker venom. At first I thought it had been a ruse and that the Joker had faked his death but calling the spirit of the body up and… it was a very angry and slightly embarrassed Joker. He … was not happy with me, quite furious actually. I guess plot armor didn’t transfer. Originally I was concerned because he would respawn in a week… in my base most likely.
  45. Then I had an Idea. I couldn’t stop him from respawning, but maybe I could tweak the system a bit. So I set up a curse that he would reappear right where I left him in the arctic. I didn’t know if it would work so for the next week around the base my companions and I were on high alert, since Joker could just randomly appear there but he didn’t. A week later sure enough he appeared in the Arctic. I even scried on him soon enough to catch him ranting and going berserk with frustration. That would be his first death but it wouldn’t be his last as it turns out.
  46.
  47. I made sure to scour the Arctic, I found a few things like a weather research station that he may through some miracle make use of… and I heavily cloaked them with magic so he wouldn’t find them. He would die many times after the first, sometimes to exposure, sometimes to wildlife and a few times… I don’t know what in the hell happened. Each time he would wind up back where I dropped him a week later. Eventually he just stopped wandering away. I think I broke the Joker.
  48.
  49. It’s funny I came to this world because of the Joker specifically. I didn’t really take into account the effect of seeing the end of everything would have on me. I’ll freely admit that the dark cities and the silence got to me. The hopelessness was crushingly prevalent everywhere I went. I had chosen not to let most of my companions out, particularly my daughter.
  50.
  51. Maybe I have changed a bit in my travels because I found myself unable to just sit back and accept this. It wasn’t too long before I found myself making plans… then making an unholy union of science and technology. The Zombies were caused by parasites. Little slug-like creatures smaller than a child’s pinky that crawled into people's brains and turned them into flesh eating monsters.
  52.
  53. Well the parasites died… they died as I broadcast a signal across the world that fried them whether they were in the water or in someone’s skull. Then I used my magic to very carefully resurrect humanity sans the parasites. I revived humanity. My companions and I wound up helping them rebuild their cities better than they had ever been before.
  54.
  55. Maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised when people started to worship me as a goddess. Honestly a god is something I never wanted to be. It’s a crappy job if you ask me. Someone’s always pissed at you no matter what you do. Everyone expects everything from you and there are no vacation days. Yeah I know on the seventh day… but does that ever stop anyone from praying on Sundays no… no it does not. Anyways I fixed the world and retreated from it. I had given them several gifts; Super science, Overlord level magic both arcane and divine. I felt like I had done enough, like it was time for them to make whatever it was they were going to do with their world.
  56.
  57. Honestly I kind of expected things to go to hell the moment I turned my back. I figured human nature hadn’t changed that much… they surprised me though. There was still crime and derision but in general people did come together realizing the great gift they had gotten in this second chance. Things went ok and I was able to bring out the rest of my companions and show them what I had made.
  58.
  59. I… I am still not comfortable playing goddess but I mean I did everything they praised me for. I guess I don’t know what my role is anymore. I always tried to hide what I could do but was that right?
  60.
  61. Anyways before I left I warned them of the devil clown in the Arctic and taught them to avoid there. I thought about having them fire Nukes at that point after I left but it seemed excessive.
