(The trees of the Spirit World's forest rustle, as though whispering to each other. A beautiful, almost motherly voice echoes in the sunlight, as Luna stands there with Sunlight Unicorn and Kuribon in a manacle)
Voice: Luna. Luna. (Kuribon coos) You've come back. I knew you would one day return to us, Luna. I knew you wouldn't forget the promise you made. You *do* remember, don't you?
Luna (takes a step back): This is *not* happening.
Voice: You promised that you would protect all of us here in the Spirit World.
Luna: I think you've got the wrong person! Who *are* you?! Huh?!
(Ido the Ultimate Magical Being reappears, a huge, scary glowing monster.)
Luna: Not you again. Ohh... (Sunlight attacks) No! Sunlight Unicorn! Wait! Come back!!
(Sunlight strikes Ido, then lands on the ground, winded, defiant; <4:00> Ido shatters.)

(Back in the real world, the Professor's eyes go wide, then he smiles. His lifepoints drop to 3700)
Professor: I broke through!

(Back in the Spirit World, the rustle of the trees seems suddenly ominous.)
Luna: Who are you? What is going on?! Whoever you are, you are really freaking me out!
(Sunight shines on Sunlight Unicorn and it is destroyed)
Luna: Ohh...! Sunlight Unicorn! ...No... This isn't real. None of it is real. It's a dream.

(At the duel, Luna's lifepoints stand at 1500; she is still in a complete trance.)
Professor: Hahahahahahahaha, hahahahahahaha. Hear my voice; let it reach you. Right now your spirit is traveling through the Spirit World. Tell me everything. Tell me the secrets of that world you're in.

(In the stands)
Yanagi: You've got to stay strong, Luna!
Tanner: You can do it!
Dex: Go, Luna!
(Leo is also in a trance; under their cheers, Luna's voice can be heard calling out to Leo)
Luna (voice): Leo! I'm scared! Where are you?!

(Backstage waiting room)
Yusei (think): What has that guy *done* to her? I gotta do something.
(Yusei stands and leaves; Greiger looks up as he walks out.)

(Back on the field...)
Luna's body: Each time Horn of the Unicorn is sent to the graveyard, it returns to the top of my deck. So I am now activating the spell card "Emergency Assistance" from my hand. This allows me to summon one monster that you destroyed this turn.
(Sunlight Unicorn gallops out of the spell, returned to the field)
Luna's body: I summon, Sunlight Unicorn.
Professor: Well. I did not foresee this development!
(He grits his teeth, and it looks like he's starting to get frustrated)
Luna's body: If the card at the top of my deck is a spell card, then I can use Sunlight Unicorn's special ability to add the card to my hand.
Professor: This is *most* frustrating!
Luna's body: I equip my mystic steed with "Horn of the Unicorn". I place two cards facedown; it is your turn.

(In the Spirit World)
Luna: Huh...? (Sunlight Unicorn reappears) Oh! Sunlight Unicorn! You're back! What happened to you earlier? Where'd you go? Huh?
(Ido is back)
Luna: Um.... pretty voice from earlier? Is this big scary shadow thing with you?
Voice: Luna, use your Sunlight Unicorn to escape!
(Luna climbs aboard Sunlight Unicorn, Kuribon in front of her)
Luna: Ah...! Whoa!

(She rides Sunlight out of the beautiful forest and into a part of the Spirit World that is dried up and dead. The color is a sickly lavender, for the stormy clouds that blanket the sky; Kuribon coos)
Luna: It's okay. Oh... Ohh... What happened to all the trees? What's going on?
Voice: An evil force is attempting to cross the void and access the Spirit World. It yearns to corrupt and twist this place, to harness its power for malicious purposes.
Luna: Malicious purposes? An evil force? That's scary. <7:00>
(At a dry, dead riverbed, Sunlight Unicorn stops and Luna and Kuribon jump off; but what truly stopped them was the sight of what lies across the riverbed: a huge stone with a carving of a dragon in it.)
Luna: Oh...! ... Hello?
Voice: I'm here, Luna, sealed away in this granite prison. I have been waiting for your return.
Luna: I don't get it; what d'you *want* from me?! ... That dragon... Hang on a sec! That dragon looks familiar!!
(Luna has a momentary vision of this dragon when it isn't sealed in stone; her skin is a blueish teal, with webbed wings in bright pastels that recollect a butterfly's. She proudly wears a golden mantle around her shoulders and torso.)
Luna: It's you! It's-- Ancient Fairy Dragon!!
Ancient Fairy Dragon: We meet again. It's time to fulfill your promise, or your brother's spirit may be lost here forever!


(Luna stands on a barren riverbank, but sees before her this place in all its former glory; the river is a beautiful blue, and on the other side lies a lush green meadow.)
Luna: Where's my brother?
Ancient Fairy Dragon: Lost between your world and ours. Now allow me to take you back to when you first came here.
(Luna gasps as she sees, across the river, herself when she was three, playing with Kuribon and several other cute little duel spirits. I recognize Key Mace, Tenderness, Watapon, and I think the fourth might be Sunny Pixie. Above them all, Ancient Fairy Dragon sits and watches protectively, an elegant multicolored alien dragon)
Ancient Fairy Dragon: To help you remember the promise you made that will save this world and your brother's spirit.
FB Young Luna: Almost done! Ta-da! Here!
(She holds up a wreath she made out of flowers, and puts it on Kuribon. Kuribon is absolutely stoked, bouncing all over the place. Young Luna looks around suddenly)
Young Luna: It just got really cold.
(Just as the duel spirits are rejoicing, the flowers rot right off of poor Kuribon's head.)
FB Young Luna: That's weird; the flowers. Oh. They wilted.
FB Ancient Fairy Dragon: The Spirit World is in danger, Luna. An evil force has been trying to gain access to this place. To take over. With sinister intent, this force reaches out to squeeze the heart of our beloved land. As this evil grows in strength, the light of the Spirit Word will begin to fade. And the beauty of this realm will be replaced by sorrow, and darkness.
Young Luna: Can't you stop it?
FB Ancient Fairy Dragon: No. But *you* can, Luna.
Young Luna: What can *I* do?
FB Ancient Fairy Dragon: You are a bridge that connects your world and ours. Stay with us, Luna. Protect us. In return, *we* can help *you*. <9:00> We feel your sadness, my child; we know that you're lonely. You *are* lonely, aren't you?
Young Luna: Yeah, kinda. Mom and dad are always away, on important business trips and stuff like that, and I don't go to school with other kids. And my silly egghead brother only thinks about himself. Okay, Fairy Dragon-- I *will* stay here and protect you! I'll protect *everyone!*
FB Ancient Fairy Dragon: Thank you, Luna! And I will make sure you never feel lonely again.
Young Luna: Huh? Aaah...!
(Ancient Fairy Dragon flies over and covers Luna and her duel spirits with its wings, like a bird protecting its young. It starts to glow gold; young Luna is amazed. Perhaps this is how Luna gained the ability to hear duel spirits)
Luna: I remember now. I... I came here... several years ago. And I made a promise. I said that I'd protect you. But then...

(Back at the duel, Yusei runs onto the field, calls out to her)
Yusei: Luna. Luna! She can't hear me...
(He looks over at the Professor, who is also completely gone)
Yusei (think): This is weird. It's like they're both *hypnotized* or something. *What is going on*? Her eyes look so distant...

(Up in the stands, Leo silently calls out)
Leo (silent): Luna! Luna!
(Luna answers, and as if on cue, Leo faints completely into Dex's lap)
Luna (silent): Leo!
Dex: Hey, what's wrong? Can ya hear me, pal?
Yanagi: Leo, this is no time for a nap!
Tanner (slaps Leo's cheek gently with the back of his hand): He's out. Did he just *faint*?
Dex: I- I don't know!
Yanagi: Let's take him to the first aid station.
Cortez: No..he's alright. Something is wrong with Luna.
Leo (think): Luna...

(Cortez suddenly remembers a dream he had before he was in the Fortune Cup. He was in the Spirit World)
(Cortez walks about, unsure where he is)
Cortez: (echo) Hello? Anyone out there?
Ancient Fairy Dragon: (from o.c) Help me.
Cortez: What's going on?! What do you need help for?
Ancient Fairy Dragon: (from o.c) You are called here by the stars themselves. You are about to see a time where we battle with a enemy of darkness. You can help up win this battle.
Cortez: What battle?! What are you talking about?!
(It was then he knew what is going on)

Cortez: I hope Luna is okey, cause things won't turn out well.

(In the Spirit World, Luna hears)
Leo (voice): Luna...
Luna: Back then, I heard Leo's voice calling to me and...
(Young Luna hears young Leo crying and yelling for her)
FB Young Leo (voice): Luna!! LUNA!!!
FB Young Luna: Leo!
(Luna looks as though she suddenly feels faint, and falls to one knee)
Luna: Oh... (think) I heard him shouting my name... and then I, I just started running as fast as I could! I said that... my brother was calling out for me... but I think *I* had been calling out to *him* somehow! I was scared...! <11:00> I was afraid I wouldn't be able to protect you by myself! So I just ran. After that, I tried so hard to forget about you. I blocked you all out, and then I...
(She hears a roar behind her; Ido has caught up to her!)
Luna (scared): Ohh...!

(On the field, Luna is still completely out of it)
Yusei: Luna! (think) It's gotta be this Professor creep. He's *doing* something to her! But *what*? Hm?
(He looks at Luna again, and this time he can see a red claw-shaped mark glowing through her right sleeve.)
Yusei: No way!! She has a mark like mine!
(The red mark is reflected in the Professor's blank eye...)

(Goodwin is watching from the tower; Zigzix is on a holoscreen)
Zigzix: Yyy- excellent news! Look here-- the D-Tector detected a signal! Miss Luna-- is a *Signer*!

(Back in the Spirit World, Luna stands in the shadow of Ido, terrified)
Luna: Ohh... Go away...! Oh...

(Yanagi, Dex, and Tanner are rushing Leo to the first aid station on a gurney along with a paramedic.)
Dex: Leo...!
Yanagi: He'll be okay. I hope.
Tanner: Leo! Come on, wake up!

(On the field)
Yusei (think): Okay. Wherever those two are, they're *not* here. Their bodies might be, but their spirits...
Professor (sleeptalking): It is my turn.

(In the Spirit World, his voice seems to be coming from his monster, Ido.)
Professor voice: I draw.
(Kuribon cowers behind Luna)
Luna: Wh-what?
(In Ido's place, the Professor appears, chuckling.)
Professor (now far less calm): I cannot believe that I've actually crossed over! I have left my body behind. *I have entered the Spirit World!!!*
Luna: What do you want?
Professor: You are much more important than you know, my dear. Now be a good girl, use your Signer power, and reveal to me the secrets of this wonderful realm! Lend me your power.
(From his feet, a darkness begins to fester and spread)
Luna: Okay, um. I have *no* idea what you want from me, but you *need to leave.* You are *not* allowed to be here!!
(As she spoke, the darkness crawled up a dead tree behind her and turned it to dust; she notices when Kuribon reacts)
Luna: Huh?
(More trees around the Professor crumble)
Professor: Heheheheheheh!
Luna: Leave this world alone!!
Luna: Oh... Ohhh... I can't do this. I can't protect the Spirit World. I'm scared, and... I wanna go home now! But then, if I leave, Ancient Fairy Dragon said Leo could be lost here forever! *Leo!*

(In the first aid station, Leo mutters in his sleep.)
Dex: Snap out of it! Wake up!
Tanner: Come on, say somethin', little guy.
Leo (sleeptalks): Luh-- Luna...!

(In the Spirit World, Luna hears Leo's voice)
Leo (voice): Luna, I hear you.
Luna: Leo! Where are you?! Come on, get me outta here! Please Leo! I'm scared! Stop messing around!
Leo (voice): Luna.... Luna....
Luna: Do something, Leo! Hurry!
(Beneath her feet, in the dry riverbed, a small stream of water burbles out of the ground. Luna cries out and steps back. The little geyser forms a puddle.)
Leo (voice): Luna... down here.
Luna: Huh? Leo, is that you?
(She looks into the puddle and sees only her own reflection, then that reflection turns into Leo, his eyes blank.)
Leo (voice): It's me. I'm here.
Luna: So come on! Get me outta this place quick!
Leo: I can't... I can't bring you back. But I saw your promise to the spirits.
Luna: I was three!
Leo: I know, but you're connected to these spirits now.

(Back in the first aid station, Leo continues to talk in his sleep.)
Leo: Luna...

(Spirit World; Leo in the puddle)
Leo: Don't worry; know that I am by your side. I'll protect you so that you can protect them!
Luna: *Leo!* Huh?
(She looks around.)
Luna: LEO!!
(He's gone. There's a rumbling in the distance. The sickly lavender sky is now swirling over with menacing storm clouds flashing with lightning. A bolt of it smashes off a chunk of the rock that imprisons Ancient Fairy Dragon, and the massive boulder just misses Luna, who barely notices, still looking for Leo.)
Ancient Fairy Dragon: We are under attack, Luna! Now is the time you must defend us!
Luna: I don't know...if I can...!


(On the field, Luna is still completely spaced out. <15:00> She blinks suddenly and her eyes go back to normal.)
Yusei: Her eyes are normal again!

(Spirit World; Luna stands, turns, and speaks to the rock)
Luna: I won't let you down, Ancient Fairy Dragon. I will fight to protect the Spirit World, and save my brother's spirit!
Professor: Heheheheheheheh!
Luna: Huh?
(The Professor stands opposite her over a length of land; we see for the first time in the Spirit World that his lifepoints read 3700. He is completely mad with power. Luna holds her arm out flat, and her duel disk appears on it. Her lifepoints read 1500, she has two facedowns, Horn of the Unicorn in play, and Kuribon (0 atk) and Sunlight Unicorn (2500 atk) on her field, the former still ensnared by the Professor's Immortal Homeostasis and Gestalt traps. On his field, the Professor has Immortal Homeostasis in play and Ido is his monster with 2200 atk.)
Luna: I reveal my facedown card! It's the spell "Pixie Ring"! (sic, it's a trap card) There's two monsters on my field and they're both in attack mode; so I can use the power of my "Pixie Ring" to form a protective barrier around the weaker one! You can't attack Kuribon now-- he's safe! I promised to protect the spirits, and that's what I'm gonna do!
Professor: How sweet-- but can you protect *yourself* from the "Wave of Ill Intent"? Eheheheheheheh! Should you manage to destroy a monster of *mine*, then, I am afraid, the "Wave of Ill Intent" will crash into you for three hundred points of damage!
Luna: Ohh...
Professor: And now, Ido attacks your Sunlight Unicorn!
(It attacks, gets destroyed, and hits the Professor for 300 lp)
(Professor lp 3400)
Professor: That attack doesn't matter! For sometimes you must be willing to make sacrifices in order to achieve victory! Now I activate my "Wave of Ill Intent"! It inflicts three hundred points of damage to you for each monster that is destroyed in battle!
Luna: Huh? Aa-aa-aa-aa-aaah!
(Luna lp 1200)
Luna: That wasn't that bad.
Professor: Well unfortunately it's about to get a lot worse! Because *you* destroyed a monster of *mine*, I can use the effect of my Prized Spirit Contamination spell!
(This card is officially known as "Mental Contamination".)
Professor: The corrosive power of this spell is capable of destroying one spell or trap card on your field! <17:00>
Luna: Aaaah! (think) The Pixie Ring is gone! Sorry, Kuribon!
Professor: And now during the End Phase, my Ido resurrects again. (menacing, crazy, evil) I end my turn! Huh.
Luna: Ah! My move, then, and I draw!
Professor: Heheheheheh! Since Kuribon's attack points have changed, you'll suffer the effect of Immortal Homeostasis; (growl) Nyaaaaah! You must now endure three hundred points of direct damage!
(Kuribon coos, Luna screams, and her lifepoints are down to 900.)
Luna (think): It's like everything I try to do ends up hurting me! But I can't give up!
Professor: Heheheheheheh...
Luna: I place one card facedown! With that done, I activate "Healing Wind" from my hand, which means-- for every single monster on the field including yours, I regain two hundred lifepoints! I end my turn! <18:00>
(Luna's lifepoints rise to 1500.)
Professor: Goodwin's a fool for thinking that I would share the power of the Spirit World with him and the rest of his Iliaster servants! I've devoted my entire life to finding a way to connect to this world! Now that I'm finally standing here, I intend to steal its power for mySELF! THE SPIRIT WORLD IS GOING TO BE MINE! IT WILL CRUMBLE BEFORE ME! AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
(As he's spoken, the dark power around his feet oozed up a nearby cliff and brought it, and every tree on it, crashing down.)
Luna: Ah! Oh no! The Spirit World is collapsing! (starting to cower) I can't let it, I can't!
Professor: It's too late to save this world OR your Kuribon! Ido the Supreme Magical Force, attack!
Luna: Stop! I play "Fairy Wind"!
Computer: Fairy Wind destroys all the magic and trap cards on the field and deals four hundred points of direct damage to each player for every card destroyed.
Luna: Listen up, Professor! I'm not gonna let you do *any* more damage to the Spirit World! <19:00> Your evil and destructive ways will end, now!
Professor: WHAT?!
(Kuribon is freed; Sunlight Unicorn is de-horned...)

(...And Ancient Forest disappears back in the real world)
Yusei: Huh?

(Spirit World)
Professor: Rrrgh!
Luna: I gave my word to protect this world, and that means I'm going to have to take out your precious lifepoints, even if it means risking my own at the same time!
(Professor lp 2200, Luna lp 300)
Luna: And since your equip spell is gone now, Kuribon's attack points return to three hundred. You won't win this duel!
Professor: And *you* will not stop me from achieving my destiny! Attack now, Ido!
Luna: Kuribon's special ability activates! When Kuribon is attacked, he can return to my hand in order to avoid damage! *You can't touch 'im!* And even though you regain lifepoints, at least I was able to keep my Kuribon safe! I promised to protect him, <20:00> I promised to protect the entire Spirit World, and I'm going to *keep* that promise!
Professor: Heheheheheheheheh! NO! My power will break you *and* your promise!


(Ancient Fairy Dragon's rock is starting to crumble, and the Professor's cackling gets even more lunatic.)
Professor: There is nothing you can do to save this world! I will destroy it, and rebuild it under *my rule*!! Hahah, ahahahahahahaha!
(As Ancient Fairy Dragon's rock crumbles away, the shape of Ancient Fairy Dragon emerges halfway, still stone, and roars its fury, screeching painfully through a voice turned to stone.)
Luna: Fairy Dragon! Man, she seems like she's *really mad!* Oh no! What is she *doing*?!
(Ancient Fairy Dragon reaches over and grabs the Professor in a claw, as he keeps cackling crazily, and lifts him into the air. Luna runs after them.)
Luna: She's going to crush him!! Don't do it, then you're no better than he is!! Put 'im down, okay?!
(Ancient Fairy Dragon roars in the Professor's face; he doesn't even stop cackling.)
Luna: Maybe if I can just end this duel... I activate, "Oberon's Prank"! <21:00> This spell reverses Fairy Wind's effect! Instead of restoring our lifepoints, it damages us for the same amount!
(The lightning crashes blue above, and a mighty whirlwind descends from the heavens. Both duelists are blown away as their lifepoints sink to zero. As she flies away, Luna hears Ancient Fairy Dragon one last time)
Ancient Fairy Dragon: The evil is gone. But now you must now stop the person who sealed me away.

(Back at the duel, the Professor stumbles backward and falls, seemingly unable to close his eyes. Luna sways on her feet, groggily returning to full consciousness, and looks across the field at the Professor)
Luna (think): Is he okay?
(The Professor then starts getting back to his feet.)
Luna (think): He is! That's good... I guess...
(She then faints, spent, and is caught by Yusei. As the Professor gets to his feet and merely stands there, half alive, and the crowd mutters in confusion, Yusei carries Luna off the field in his arms. Luna, still bemusedly half-conscious, calls out silently...)
Luna (think): Leo!

(At the first aid station, Leo stretches and lets out a hu-u-u-u-ge yawn.)
Dex: Leo, you're okay!
Leo: Huh? I'm okay?
Cortez: That's right. You just sorta *fainted* earlier, kid.
Leo: Really? I did? I had the weirdest dream, but I can't remember it now!
Tanner: Huh. Yeah, dreams are like that.
Leo: So hey, how's Luna?
Dex (looks up at a monitor on the wall): Check it out.
Leo: Mmm?
Announcer: Our Losers' Bracket battle has ended-- (mad) and *neither* competitor will be moving on! (tragic) Both duelists have lost!!
Leo: YWEH?! Awww...

(Yusei is still carrying Luna off the field, and he notices her Sign fading. Luna opens her eyes again as Kuribon appears before her.)
Luna (think): Don't worry, Kuribon. I won't leave you again. I'll *always* watch over the Spirit World.
(She smiles, and Kuribon smiles back and vanishes; energy regained suddenly, Luna leaps out of Yusei's arms and lands on her feet.)
Luna: I can walk by myself, ya know!
(Yusei is stunned for a moment, then smiles)
Yusei: Welcome back.
(The crowd is cheering. Luna waves happily to them as she heads toward the arena exit. Yusei takes a few steps to follow her, then looks up at the tower above them.) <23:00>

(Up in the tower, Goodwin is smirking and Lezar's grin is downright evil.)
Jack: So that girl has a mark. What happens now?

(Meanwhile, somewhere shadowy, a black-gloved hand with a thick black-and-silver sleeve spins Ancient Fairy Dragon's card on a table with a fingertip, with a sinister laugh...)
