Letter to Blue Officials

Dear [Official’s Name],

I am writing to you today with a sense of urgency and deep concern about the state of our democracy and the protections we hold dear. It is incredibly important that we move swiftly to enshrine as many freedoms and protections as possible on the state level while we still have the ability to do so. As we approach the transition to the next administration, we must act quickly and decisively to safeguard the rights of all citizens and ensure that the values of equality, fairness, and justice remain enshrined in our laws.

I respectfully urge you to consider taking immediate action on the following key issues:

- Voting Rights: We must ensure that every eligible voter has unfettered access to the ballot box. This includes fighting back against any attempts at voter suppression and expanding early voting, absentee ballots, vote by mail, and secure, accessible voting mechanisms.

- Preventing RFK Jr from being Appointed: It is essential that we prevent individuals like RFK Jr from being appointed to any influential position, given his track record and stated goals to tear down our institutions. Not only would such appointments undermine public trust and erode core democratic values, but I would also suggest quietly conveying to your Republican colleagues that, from a business standpoint, this could be harmful to the country's long-term interests.

- Environmental Protections: Our natural resources, public lands, and climate are under greater threat than ever. We must pass and strengthen laws that protect our environment and take bold steps toward sustainable, renewable energy solutions that reduce our carbon footprint and safeguard our planet for future generations.  If enough states can shore up their regulations, then businesses will need to consider following those guidelines rather than more lax federal guidelines.

- Women’s Healthcare: Protecting women’s access to healthcare, including reproductive healthcare, is essential. We need robust policies that safeguard a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body and ensure that all women, regardless of income or geography, can access essential healthcare services.  In addition, guaranteeing the safety of women who come here for healthcare is the only moral option.

- Marriage Equality and Protections for Abused Spouses: We must continue to protect marriage equality and ensure that all couples, regardless of gender, have equal legal rights for themselves and their children. Additionally, we must enhance protections for victims of domestic abuse, providing them with the resources and legal support they need to escape dangerous situations.

- Healthcare: Affordable and accessible healthcare is a human right. I urge you to support policies that expand Medicaid, lower prescription drug prices, and protect the Affordable Care Act. The health and well-being of all citizens should not be subject to political whim.

- Education, Including Higher Education: Education is the foundation of a thriving democracy. We need to invest in public education, ensure that teachers are well-supported, and make higher education more affordable and accessible to all.

- Investigating Election Interference: Given the recent admissions from Russian agents of interference in this recent election, it is imperative that we look into these violations with digital forensic investigation of the election. If the upcoming administration had assistance from Russian intelligence in getting elected, the people of the United States need to know that.

These issues are not just partisan talking points; they are fundamental to the health and future of our state and our nation. We must act quickly and decisively to secure these protections before we lose the opportunity to do so.

I trust that you will consider these points and take bold action on behalf of your constituents. The future of our democracy depends on it, and I look forward to seeing you lead with courage and conviction in the days ahead.
