- Shinobi is a hack 'n' slash action game released by Overworks and SEGA in 2002 on the PS2, coming after a long wait for a new Shinobi game.
- You play as Hotsuma, the leader of the Obura clan who is fighting against his dead clansmen after a mysterious evil force has taken over in Tokyo.
- The main objective in this game is solely combat. There are many gates in levels that require you to kill all enemies and destroy locking mechanisms to proceed.
- You have a wealth of combat abilities to aid you in traversing the stages:
- - Ninjitsu will cause a large explosion and render you invincible (only 1 by default, can pick 2 more up in stages)
- - Hotsuma can use Stealth Dash to trick enemies by leaving ghost images of himself, as well as quickly moving and cancelling attacks
- - Back+Square is a kick that will break guards, 360+Square will give you a large slash
- - You can charge your sword attack as long as you have Yin in your Slash Gauge
- - By killing four or more enemies before your first enemy in a chain falls, you perform a Tate, which will give you a sick-ass cutscene and fully restore your Slash Gauge
- - By expertly killing enemies with your sword, it gains a lot of power for short times
- Death will cause you to restart the stage, or the boss fight if you have made it there.
