- Homework: explain the meanings of the proverbs on p. 121 in your own words
- Compare your answers with your partner. Do you have the same understanding of each proverb?
- “A good student learns with the teacher, without the teacher, and despite the teacher.”
- - You should stress “with”, “without”, and “despite”, because those are the words that are different each time, and they are key to understanding the proverb.
- - Also notice that the structure is parallel. Each item in the list is a preposition followed by a noun.
- (“I like studying and to play sports.” - This is NOT parallel, because it connects a gerund and an infinitive.)

- p. 124 - With your new partner, discuss some of these questions about studying and learning English.
