  23. Donco

  37. Donco: I have been reading Dante's Divine Comedy, yes. It's fascinating how powerful and clear a case Dante makes for the hellish qualities of Donald Trump and the entire modern GOP.

  54. K-Pax
  55. His allies, Russia and China and Saudi Arabia and Israel in the case of Mr. Trump, then wished to raze Florence to the ground.
  56. K-Pax
  57. He objected, saving Florence as he did not commit treason to be master of a trash heap.
  58. K-Pax
  59. Dante placed him level six of hell for his factional orientation in which he sought to divide his nation at any cost as long as his side prospered.
  60. K-Pax
  61. This is identical to Mr. Trump, his family, and the GOP.
  62. K-Pax
  63. And, they too, should be placed in hell for their actions.

  106. beakr
  107. yes, it can be problematic, Ross
  108. K-Pax
  109. Worship is a particular mode of human cognition. Religious people often find themselves in that mode often. People who deeply value science generally do not inhabit that mode much at all in their lifetime. Religious people will often project their nature onto the nature of the non-religious with much folly.
  110. Ross
  111. i tend to think atheist-evolutionist replace God with science
  112. beakr

  114. K-Pax

  121. from the history i read, science started out with the concept of dicovering how God made things to work/relate
  122. K-Pax
  123. Worship, as a mode of cognition, is characterized by awe, lack of curiosity, and submission. These feelings are, in serious part, anathema to the scientific project.

  161. K-Pax
  162. It's just a way of knowing. It's not profound. It is profound for many religious people as in its humble orientation to truth, it annihilated the putative foundations of most forms of theism.

  181. If Christians could accept their system as a mere collection of useful mythical stories, rather than a description of actual history -- as I do -- they could continue to find sources of deep meaning that can enrich a life. Instead, they chase after grains of sands as they're washed into an ocean of modernity.
