  27. Abruptly, I was in the (thankfully empty) throne room, with no one else present but the Captain and the Emperor himself.
  28.
  29. "Uh. This is awkward. Hello, father. Captain."
  30. >"What."
  31. "Yeah, so, apparently I'm in two places at once. Don't tell other-me? I've been temporally displaced. Again. I like not having to worry about paradoxes overmuch."
  32. >"This happens fairly often, I take it."
  33. "You have no idea. I've been to the forty-first millennium, among other places. Though... me being here explains a couple of things."
  34. >"Closed loop?"
  35. "The future is mutable, but certain echos implied I was working more widely than I could with being on Uncle Mal's leash. Hm. I wonder..."
  36. >"Go on."
  37. "Think I'm going to have to disseminate a handful of STCs to the friendlier of techpriests, that may explain a good bit. That aside, however, what are the odds of my joining the Custodes?"
  38. >"Hm. Actually... that could work, though you would have to be augmented, and there are certain conditions. You would have no rank as a Primarch... as my son. But for you... it would work better than most. But understand, your duty may be to lay your life down to save mine someday."
  39. "I was prepared to do that from the day I met you, father."
  40. >"Well... welcome to the ranks of my Talons, let's get started."
  41.
  42. In the end, I didn't lay my life down for him, because I was preoccupied elsewhere. It turns out that the only reason the Heresy turned out as well for us loyalists as it did was the presence of an entire extra legion in Sol - and an extra fleet. That being my own, displaced in time. While I handled my duties in the Custodes, incidentally being a favorite of the Sisters of Silence considering I had certain similar abilities to them, the Emperor saw to it that the Bastion was brought further up to date with certain facilities built into it. The Second Fleet, and the Second Legion, served to reinforce the anvil. When the heretics tried to flee, they found themselves meeting the hammer... that being the Second Fleet, and the Second Legion. The ones that hadn't been displaced in time.
  43.
  44. (I could swear I heard Cegorach laughing his head off around the time that happened.)
  45.
  46. Oh, and I finally got an answer as to what the hell happened to Ferrus Manus; that was something that bothered me ever since I found he truly had turned traitor but there were no signs of him after the Heresy.
  47.
  48. Apparently, I happened to him.
  49.
  50. (Cegorach keeps laughing. But that's okay. The moment I realized who I had just punched out, with a Contemptor dreadnought converted into a mech, I started laughing too.)
