that I can't apologize in person
and only in the form of a poem
"sorry" in the form of a casserole
would surely be more sentimental
and "sorry" in the form of a boisterous dance
would at least get a second glance
alas, this ghost of a sonnet is no replacement
for a bonnet resplendent with lillies
or a silly sweater, or an expensive perse
(and in fact it is clearly very much worse)
but, a "sorry" distilled into verse
is the best token of remorse I can conjure
and the least I could do for you, my dear
