- Mozilla Foundation is seeking a web developer to join our team in designing and developing software and services for Mozilla.org and its associated digital properties. This is a hands on individual contributor position which with a primary emphasis on technical design and development.
- Working for the Mozilla Foundation means that you'll be making the web a better place but not through the use of Firefox and our other pieces of open source software. Our recent projects have included popcorn.js [http://popcornjs.org/], hackasurus [http://hackasaurus.org/] and openbadges [http://openbadges.org/], we run the yearly Mozilla Festival [https://mozillafestival.org/] and on occasion need the occasional tweak to the main mozilla.org site. Basically we do loads of stuff that you maybe wouldn't think of Mozilla doing and working hear means that you'll get to test and expand your skills in a wide range of areas and projects.
- You'll be part of a small but well-connected and well-motivated team supporting each others efforts with our specialist skills. You're work will be seen by millions of people from around the globe. We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of modern client side technologies, a strong understanding of PHP and Wordpress and hopefully an understanding (enough to hit the ground running) with Django and Python as we look to develop and support our web presences in 2012 and beyond.
- As a Web Developer at Mozilla, you will need to:
- * Be self-motivated, capable of managing your time well, and work efficiently without close supervision
- * Gracefully receive and process feedback
- * Perform constructive code reviews
- * Communicate positively with the Mozilla community
- * Be able to adapt and solve problems with new technologies
- * Write tests, documentation and invest time towards the maintainability of your work
- * Take pride in writing reusable, readable and pragmatic code
- * Keep current on developing technologies and showcase them in your work
- * Provide accurate time estimates for engineering tasks
- * Sketch diagrams and visualizations for your technical solutions
- * Understand web application scalability and performance
- * Identify and prevent a wide array of security vulnerabilities
- Job Skill Requirements:
- * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- * 3 years of experience in JavaScript, CSS and HTML
- * 2 years of web application development in PHP
- * Hands-on experience with WordPress
- * Strong grasp of programming fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, object-oriented programming
- * Experience with revision control systems (svn, git, hg, etc.)
- * An appreciation and understanding of where HTML5 is taking the web and how we can utilise it in our projects today
- * Understanding of mobile app and website development and ways to optimize for the mobile platform.
- * Proven experience in designing and implementing high performancescalable web applications
- Preferred Skills:
- * Hands-on experience with Python/Django
- * Canvas/SVG experience
- * Experience working with localization and global communities
- * Healthy appreciation for memcache
- * Time spent working on high-traffic websites
- * Experience using an issue tracking system (like Bugzilla) to track tasks
- * Proficiency with reusable component development and deployment
- * Fluency with UNIX, HTTP, Apache
- * In depth knowledge of Mysql and MS SQL databases. Knowledge shouldnot be just limited to SQL queries
- * Experience of working on open source projects with examples of open source code on the web
