  1. Mozilla Foundation is seeking a web developer to join our team in designing and developing software and services for Mozilla.org and its associated digital properties. This is a hands on individual contributor position which with a primary emphasis on technical design and development.

  3. Working for the Mozilla Foundation means that you'll be making the web a better place but not through the use of Firefox and our other pieces of open source software. Our recent projects have included popcorn.js [http://popcornjs.org/], hackasurus [http://hackasaurus.org/] and openbadges [http://openbadges.org/], we run the yearly Mozilla Festival [https://mozillafestival.org/] and on occasion need the occasional tweak to the main mozilla.org site. Basically we do loads of stuff that you maybe wouldn't think of Mozilla doing and working hear means that you'll get to test and expand your skills in a wide range of areas and projects.

  5. You'll be part of a small but well-connected and well-motivated team supporting each others efforts with our specialist skills. You're work will be seen by millions of people from around the globe. We're looking for someone with a strong understanding of modern client side technologies, a strong understanding of PHP and Wordpress and hopefully an understanding (enough to hit the ground running) with Django and Python as we look to develop and support our web presences in 2012 and beyond.

  7. As a Web Developer at Mozilla, you will need to:
  8. * Be self-motivated, capable of managing your time well, and work efficiently without close supervision
  9. * Gracefully receive and process feedback
  10. * Perform constructive code reviews
  11. * Communicate positively with the Mozilla community
  12. * Be able to adapt and solve problems with new technologies
  13. * Write tests, documentation and invest time towards the maintainability of your work
  14. * Take pride in writing reusable, readable and pragmatic code
  15. * Keep current on developing technologies and showcase them in your work
  16. * Provide accurate time estimates for engineering tasks
  17. * Sketch diagrams and visualizations for your technical solutions
  18. * Understand web application scalability and performance
  19. * Identify and prevent a wide array of security vulnerabilities

  21. Job Skill Requirements:
  22. * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  23. * 3 years of experience in JavaScript, CSS and HTML
  24. * 2 years of web application development in PHP
  25. * Hands-on experience with WordPress
  26. * Strong grasp of programming fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, object-oriented programming
  27. * Experience with revision control systems (svn, git, hg, etc.)
  28. * An appreciation and understanding of where HTML5 is taking the web and how we can utilise it in our projects today
  29. * Understanding of mobile app and website development and ways to optimize for the mobile platform.
  30. * Proven experience in designing and implementing high performancescalable web applications
  31.  
  32. Preferred Skills:
  33. * Hands-on experience with Python/Django
  34. * Canvas/SVG experience
  35. * Experience working with localization and global communities
  36. * Healthy appreciation for memcache
  37. * Time spent working on high-traffic websites
  38. * Experience using an issue tracking system (like Bugzilla) to track tasks
  39. * Proficiency with reusable component development and deployment
  40. * Fluency with UNIX, HTTP, Apache
  41. * In depth knowledge of Mysql and MS SQL databases. Knowledge shouldnot be just limited to SQL queries
  42. * Experience of working on open source projects with examples of open source code on the web
