  1. There's a great deal of various logical fallacies people cling to in arguments. One could be, for example, if Hitler tells you you're lazy, you may say "shutup you're Hitler." Yes he is, but that does not invalidate his claim. You still haven't proven you're not lazy.
  2.
  3. In that same light, if someone tells you if you don't like something that you should stop watching it or playing it, none of your concrete criticisms of the media in question have actually been addressed. It's an argument that serves to try to shut you up and get you out of the discussion for making scary claims, but it doesn't actually do anything to disprove any claims being made.
  4.
  5. Simple example would be if you claim Kevin's a shitty editor and you list A, B and C as evidence supporting your claim. If the response is "don't like it? Don't watch," then neither A nor B nor C has actually been attacked, so all of them stand as "true." (quotations because obviously it's a matter of opinions, but even amongst opinions you can encounter some damning evidence)
  6.
  7. The point is that a debate should function to weed out false statements until the truth arises. If you claim he's shit and I claim he's the best editor ever, then both of us provide examples, both of us dissect and attack the examples of the other person, and it'll become apparent that some examples are much more difficult to attack or defend than others. At the end, the "truth" remains and both of us are smarter and wiser for having participated in the debate. Yay. The debate has been productive.
  8.
  9. But telling someone to go away is tantamount to being afraid of opposing opinions, which has to be one of the most childish and limiting mindsets you could possibly allow yourself to have. Dissenting opinion is a thing you will encounter every day of your life. Be ready to handle it and you'll flourish. Be too afraid to even speak to dissenting opinions, and you'll never grow as a person.
