A rookie firefighter tries to earn the respect of his older brother and other firefighters while taking part in an investigation of a string of arson/murders. This detailed look into the duties and private lives of firemen naturally features widespread pyrotechnics and special effects.
Two Chicago firefighter brothers, who don't get along, have to work together while a dangerous arsonist is on the loose.
The script was dumb.  The music, while good on it's own terms, was way too melodramatic for it's own good.  This flicks only saving grace is the fires. Who can watch the scene where waves of flame ripple across the ceiling and not feel that sense of awe?  if only the plot was better developed this would have been the ultimate fire film.  Oh well.  Another film in the long line of "Looks great, tastes horrible".
In all honesty for a film that had Robert de Niro and Kurt Russell starring in it, it didn&#39;t live up to it&#39;s high expectations. There are plenty of fire scenes only one of which was good. The plot EVENTUALLY comes to an end with the only fire scene that works in my opinion.<br/><br/>If you are a lover of mediocre films then I think this could be your film, but not as good as i thought it would have been with a director such as Ron Howard.<br/><br/>4/10 - Good cast, mediocre plot, good directing .<br/><br/>Bad points include - Too long, slow to get to the point, unrealistic fire scenes throughout the film.
While Mr. Howard ably maintains a strong forward momentum, Backdraft often feels directionless beneath its overlay of frantic activity. One clear story line would have been worth more than a series of subplots and tangents.
