Introduction

“Hey! Riki” is my debut work, serialized in Shounen Gahousha’s “Shounen Comics” in 1989 with a chapter released every month for 9 months. Unfortunately, Shounen Comics suspended publication 9 months later, so the serialization ended as well, but this work is essentially the starting point of all the works I published afterwards, including Crows, Kiku, QP, and WORST.

The editorial department has always asked me if I ever wanted to bring back “Hey! Riki”, but I always turned them down saying “Anything but that!” The reason is because it’s extremely embarrassing bringing back such an old work of mine! And I also thought it would be kind of cool to have like a phantom series of my own or something! (laughs)

But this time, they asked, “Then how about we have someone else revive the series?” When I heard that that certain someone was my beloved apprentice Nagata Kouichi, I gave them the okay on the spot. I felt that Kouichi would’ve been able to develop the charming Riki into an even more loveable character.

I’ll be looking forward to the development of the Nagata version of Riki as well.

Saotome Riki(17)

Hanatsubaki High School Second Year Class F.
A troublemaker who’s well known for his antics even amongst the rest of the infamous Hanatsubaki’s students. It appears that he wasn’t responsible for the pickpocket incident, but he still reacted violently towards innocent civilians. The citizens have often complained about the students of Hanatsubaki, meaning that he’ll likely be put under further scrutiny from now on. After contacting the school, it’s been decided that he’ll be suspended for 5 days.

1: Hanatsubaki High School. 4 or 5 years ago it was a co-ed school, but the number of female students continued to decline year after year, with it now being almost no different from an all-boys school.
2: With the school full of boys now, it’s turned into quite the delinquent school.
3: This school is surrounded by abnormally tall walls.
4: With the school letting off such a bizarre and off putting aura, there’s hardly anyone willing to approach it these days.
