  1. Exam Questions (English)
  2. how do characters interact with something >>
  3.
  4. 1. Time
  5. There’s lots of stories that relate back to the passage of time (Story of an Hour, The Nirvana Principle, The Yellow Wallpaper, Sonny’s Blues). Make sure to compare and contrast the different stories to each other.
  6.
  7. 2. Art
  8. Sonny’s Blues and The Yellow Wallpaper both have this as a pretty central motif (that’s only two stories though LUL). Perhaps “The Doll’s House” or “Tricks” have elements that can be argued in favour of art (in terms of architecture, plays as art).
  9.
  10. 3. “The Recognition Scene”
  11. Story of an Hour relates to this, but the first thing that came to my mind was “Tricks” and “The Things They Carried.” There’s a lot of stories that have a distinctive “Recognition Scene” in the story (i.e. The Doll’s House, Cathedral, Queen of the North).

  15. (oh look it’s my three least favourite stories omegalul)
  16.
  17. 5. Dying Inside (a little bit too me_irl for me_irl)
  18. Is this “supported or refuted in a story?” The biggest one that jumps out immediately is Story of an Hour, Last Night, The Things They Carried (that’s a good one to focus on).
  19.
  20. 6. Chekov’s Gun
  21. Foreshadowing (DDLC xd) - tracking a repeated image or motif over the story and look at when it comes up in the text. Basically, you can talk about when the author mentions something kind of stupid in the story but for a reason - Story of an Hour (heart trouble), Last Night (the pencil), etc.
  22.
  23. 7. Darwin
  24. > > skip
  25. (i’m not a fan of this one, it seems a little bit way too open-ended. It’s not very prompting. If I do choose this one, then Cathedral and Sonny’s Blues are both good examples, perhaps The Yellow Wallpaper (a change in the overall environment). I’m not a fan of this question in general).
  26.
  27. 8. The Poetics of Space
  28. Oh boy it’s like someone wrote a prompt based on The Yellow Wallpaper. Story of an Hour and Last Night (juxtaposes the differences between the perceived “upstairs” and “downstairs” of a house).
  29.
  30. Be specific!
