  1. [14:51] Zethar: (For the record, I'm a small details and work my way up type person, so while I can answer stupidly detailed answers on minute things, I can't actually tell you much on what it looks like overall)
  2. [14:51] Slorany: hmmm do you want spoilers (as if you had access to all my documentation) or no spoilers (as if you were a citizen/mage from my world)?
  3. [14:52] Zethar: Ooh juicy. For now, a mage in your world
  4. [14:52] Slorany: alright
  5. [14:52] Zethar: 1) so others don't get spoilers and 2) so I can guess
  6. [14:52] the worst developer of all time: The detail of magic i have is just "water" :kappa~2:
  7. [14:52] Slorany: so you're a Priest. The only kind of legal mage in the Empire
  8. [14:52] Zethar: Well, my first question was going to be "so I want a career in magic, what do I need"
  9. [14:53] Slorany: You've undergone years and years of training in order to be able to transport your mind from your body to the High Skies in order to retrieve Meko, the magical energy that keeps the Universe in balance, the gift of our Creator
  10. [14:54] the worst developer of all time: That went from 0 to whoa in a second
  11. [14:54] the worst developer of all time: Holy shit
  12. [14:54] Slorany: Choose an Order of Priests:
  13. Dreamer
  14. Shapeshifter
  15. Brute
  16. Animage
  17. Judge
  18. Shield-Bearer
  19. Sentinel
  20. Windblower
  21. Healer
  22. Translocater
  23. [14:54] the worst developer of all time: Literally :INFINITYLUL:
  24. [14:55] Zethar: @the worst developer of all time If I ever get my document done, you may want to skip volume 0
  25. [14:55] the worst developer of all time: Is this a dnd adventure(edited)
  26. [14:55] Zethar: Give me a one phrase desciption of each?
  27. [14:55] the worst developer of all time: Sure seems like it
  28. [14:55] Slorany: my "volume 0" is basically "Hey the Creator made everything and fuck you"
  29. [14:56] Slorany: (the Creator is actually real in my world)
  30. [14:56] the worst developer of all time: :GODLUL:
  31. [14:56] Zethar: (Also, yes, my numbering starts from 0. Then it goes to 0a because I expect to need a tome for the appendicies that I won't be writing)
  32. [14:56] Slorany: (choose an Order tho :p)
  33. [14:56] the worst developer of all time: Zlazish magic volume 0 is: four types of magic exist but we only use one bcuz fuck the others
  34. [14:56] Slorany: I have like... 11 types iirc
  35. [14:57] Slorany: maybe more?
  36. [14:57] Slorany: idk anymore
  37. [14:57] Zethar: Ok, I'll just roll randomly and move on
  38. [14:57] the worst developer of all time: Dude this seems like an amazing dnd adventure :p
  39. [14:57] Zethar: Apparently I'm a Shapeshifter
  40. [14:57] Slorany: Neat
  41. [14:57] the worst developer of all time: Not like i would know cuz i dont play dnd(edited)
  42. [14:57] Slorany: you can model your own body through use of magic, but it's among the most dangerous magics to wield because you need to have enough energy to go back to your human form
  43. [14:58] Slorany: >Dude this seems like an amazing dnd adventure :p
  44. it's actually a board game I'm writing
  45. [14:58] Slorany: :p
  46. [14:58] Zethar: @the worst developer of all time You should. It doesn't have to be D&D (dungeons and dragons) in particular, but tabletop roleplaying with the right group is awesome
  47. [14:58] the worst developer of all time: Too bad i don't know anyone in my area that has heard of dnd
  48. [14:59] the worst developer of all time: I guess I have to look for the right people
  49. [14:59] the worst developer of all time: Seems really interesting
  50. [14:59] the worst developer of all time: My brother played mtg and he took me to this boardgame cave once in like an old warehouse that was full of nerds so I just have to search better(edited)
  51. [15:00] Slorany: So, basically what you do is fetch Meko from the High Skies in order to use it. But your mind is only so resilient and can only endure so many roundtrips to the High Skies. And each time you go fetch some, you have to expand it all, or it's lost (no adverse effect if you fetch more than needed, it just dissipates/returns to the High Skies), but the more you carry on a trip the more tiring it is.
  52. [15:00] Zethar: Go find yourself a place that sells board games. Usually they'll sell roleplaying games as well, and most board game people are nice
  53. [15:01] Slorany: Every spell you have to cast, you utter in the language of Gods, an ancient language priests in general have little info about but they have retrieved enough to reconstruct parts of it
  54. [15:01] the worst developer of all time: No boardgame shops in rakvere.... , I'll try a different city in a different time i guess
  55. [15:01] Slorany: (wait a sec Zet)
  56. [15:02] Slorany: nah I'll just send you whatever I have for RPG stuff(edited)
  57. [15:02] Zethar: (My understanding for Zet is the pdfs aren't hard, it's the people)
  58. [15:02] Slorany: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_5FwqKElFTwTlMxMHgwTVJ3MU0?usp=sharing
  59. [15:02] the worst developer of all time: Oh boi
  60. [15:03] Slorany: the 1483481036028 file is SO NICE
  61. [15:03] Slorany: list of downloads for hundreds of games
  62. [15:03] Zethar: I actually would recommend something lighter than D&D for a group of first-timers
  63. [15:04] Slorany: Nephilim
  64. [15:04] Slorany: :^)
  65. [15:04] Slorany: More seriously, 7th Sea is great
  66. [15:04] the worst developer of all time: Yeah its not like im doing it anyway in the near times
  67. [15:04] Slorany: lightweight (7 pages for the core rules)
  68. [15:04] Slorany: I mean we could organise sth here
  69. [15:04] Slorany: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  70. [15:04] the worst developer of all time: Anyway, continue like i wasnt here
  71. [15:04] Slorany: sure
  72. [15:04] Zethar: I like Ryuutama since it gives people a good balance between rules light and heavy
  73. [15:05] Zethar: It's also in a style that's not represented in other systems
  74. [15:05] Zethar: (Which may be a turn-off, admmitedly
  75. [15:05] Slorany: (I don't like it)
  76. ULTRALUL1
  77. [15:05] Zethar: hasn't actually played 7th Sea
  78. [15:05] Slorany: (I'm very much a D&D-style guy)
  79. [15:06] Slorany: 7th Sea is "if you think you can do it, go ahead"
  80. [15:06] Slorany: basically you could play a literal Jack Sparrow(edited)
  81. [15:06] Zethar: (Honestly, same. I'm a worldbuilding guy and build the world and run it and all my friends play it)
  82. [15:06] Slorany: from Pirates of the Carribeans
  83. [15:06] Zethar: It's on my list of games that we want to run but don't have time to play
  84. [15:06] Zethar: This list is very long
  85. [15:06] Slorany: Many times I have hung from a chandelier with my feet while sword-fighting 5 men
  86. [15:06] Slorany: (in 7th sea)
  87. [15:06] the worst developer of all time: I said continue like i wasnt here >:G :kappa~2:
  88. [15:06] Slorany: So, Shapeshifter:
  89. you can model your own body through use of magic, but it's among the most dangerous magics to wield because you need to have enough energy to go back to your human form.
  90. basically what you do is fetch Meko from the High Skies in order to use it.
  91. Every spell you have to cast, you utter in the language of Gods, an ancient language priests in general have little info about but they have retrieved enough to reconstruct parts of it
  92. [15:06] the worst developer of all time: O
  93. [15:07] Slorany: i had that ready to paste :^)
  94. [15:07] Zethar: Lol
  95. [15:07] Zethar: Anyway, next question
  96. [15:07] Slorany: ya?
  97. [15:07] Zethar: My country blumpkin friend Joe doesn't know anything about magic. What does it look like to him when I cast (and how realistic is Joe in this world)?
  98. [15:08] the worst developer of all time: I love you guys
  99. [15:08] the worst developer of all time: That question was amazing
  100. [15:09] Slorany: > My country blumpkin friend Joe doesn't know anything about magic. What does it look like to him when I cast (and how realistic is Joe in this world)?
  101. he does know about magic. He doesn't know how to use it, but he knows it's a power granted by the Creator to His Priests. He knows any Priest basically has the power to annihilate a town in minutes.
  102. [15:09] Zethar: (That didn't actually answer my question)
  103. [15:09] the worst developer of all time: op pls nerf
  104. [15:09] Slorany: (I'm typing :p)
  105. [15:10] Slorany: To him, when you cast a spell, you look like you're entering a short coma, your eyes become all white, then glow bright as the moon when it's full, then bright as the sun while you close them and utter the words he doesn't understand. Then, your body starts changing, bubbling as your muscles grow and your bones crack and readjust. After a handful of seconds, your arm is that of a bear.
  106. [15:12] the worst developer of all time: >as bright as the sun
  107. Sure about that?
  108. [15:12] Slorany: (it's actually very balanced, the priest would pretty much have to sacrifice his sanity and/or body if he were to unleash such power)
  109. [15:12] Slorany: > Sure about that?
  110. The Creator resides in the Sun, which is called Ton /tɔn/, and the Magic is His gift, therefore you are part of Him and He is part of you when you cast a spell
  111. [15:12] Slorany: so yes
  112. [15:13] the worst developer of all time: I don't think thats very health. I dont want you hanging out with those preists again >:G -mom
  113. [15:13] Slorany: it just seems as bright as the sun, and they close their eyes at that moment so it's k
  114. [15:14] the worst developer of all time: Wowwwwwwwwww god is male sexist much :FeelsTriggeredMan:
  115. [15:14] Slorany: yes He is
  116. [15:14] the worst developer of all time: :kappa~2:
  117. [15:15] Slorany: but other Gods are female
  118. [15:15] Slorany: There's a reason for that: they were the first Humans to die
  119. [15:15] Slorany: After He had created the first Thousand Men (Humans)(edited)
  120. [15:15] Zethar: What goes on typically when instructing new initiates / acolytes in casting?
  121. [15:16] Slorany: also "Human" in my world is used as "Mortals", encompassing all of the mortal races (elves, dwarves, orcs and humans)
  122. [15:18] Slorany: > What goes on typically when instructing new initiates / acolytes in casting?
  123. Usually a very powerful Dreamer (An order of Priests whose members have the ability to transport their mind and senses) who knows how to sound the human mind and communicate telepathically will "connect" with the student and execute simple spells repeatedly in order for the student to witness and feel exactly how it's done.
  124. [15:19] Slorany: Then the Dreamer takes direct control of the student and makes him do the same over and over again
  125. [15:19] the worst developer of all time: So it's like someone moving your hand in school showing how to do something and then you have to do it :kappa~2:(edited)
  126. [15:20] the worst developer of all time: When i make strikethrough comments with :kappa~2: dont take them seriously(edited)
  127. [15:21] Slorany: Then the student is allowed to repeat that spell (usually very inconsequential stuff like extinguishing a candle) without being allowed to fetch Meko himself: the Dreamer fetches it and transfers it to the student so the student doesn't fuck up in the process, because failing to correctly handle the Meko can cause a few bad things, such as:
  128. - death
  129. - gruesome death
  130. - explosions
  131. - unleashing pure Meko in a room full of Mages who're gonna take it full force
  132. - more death
  133. [15:21] Slorany: > So it's like someone moving your hand in school showing how to do something and then you have to do it
  134. I mean yes it's exactly that but way more invasive
  135. [15:21] Slorany: :p
  136.
  137. [15:23] Zethar: About how far along the learning process do I get to fetch Meko?
  138. [15:24] Slorany: beginning of your second year, and you're followed by an assigned tutor, usually a Dreamer or a Healer
  139. [15:24] Zethar: (Bonus question: what does it feel like when I do it?)
  140. [15:24] the worst developer of all time: Fetching meko: :gachiGASM:(edited)
  141. [15:24] Slorany: You feel like your body is going through the air, the atmosphere and into space
  142. [15:24] the worst developer of all time: :HYPERGACHI:
  143. [15:25] Slorany: but you don't need to breathe, and you have no substance
  144. [15:25] Slorany: You don't feel the wind, you don't feel the cold
  145. [15:25] Slorany: basically as if you were in a very very fast elevator that goes very very high
  146. [15:25] the worst developer of all time: That's a way to explaim things
  147. [15:25] the worst developer of all time: o
  148. [15:26] Slorany: you just feel yourself going up, then down, but you still have your body's senses
  149. [15:26] the worst developer of all time: ö
  150. [15:26] Zethar: I've finished however many years of training and tutoring. What am I expected to do?
  151. [15:26] the worst developer of all time: And how many years is that, too?
  152. [15:27] Slorany: about 6-8, depending on how good you are
  153. [15:27] Slorany: You've become a full-on shapeshifter and can turn most of your body into a few animals you've studied with doctors and morticians.
  154. [15:27] the worst developer of all time: You might have explained this and maybe i missed it, but: does one get to choose what type of mage they become?
  155. [15:28] mareck (🌺◠‿◠): Is shifting painful
  156. [15:28] Slorany: nope
  157. [15:28] Zethar: (He didn't)
  158. [15:28] Slorany: You're expected to help people in whatever way you can. You're an agent of the Temple, at the service of the Creator and His Creation. You have to educate them (school is optional but free in every Temple) so you can be a teacher, for instance(edited)
  159. [15:29] Slorany: > You might have explained this and maybe i missed it, but: does one get to choose what type of mage they become?
  160. you do and don't at the same time. You may express a preference, but you are tested a bunch and affinities with certain types of magic are detected. You may not enter an Order you have 0 natural affinity for, as it'd likely just kill you. But you can choose any of those you're deemed able to join.
  161. [15:29] Zethar: Actually that is a good question (or you didn't fully address the scope of the question "so I want a career in magic what do I need") "What are the requirements/criteria to magic"
  162. [15:30] Zethar: I'm going to assume "human" is one of them
  163. [15:30] Slorany: Like, to be a Brute or a Shield-Bearer, you also have to be physically strong because you convert Meko into physical energy and mass.
  164. [15:30] Slorany: So if you're not strong at all, you're out
  165. [15:30] Zethar: I'm OK with "X, Y, Z, plus things specific to each group"
  166. [15:31] Slorany: The requirements are minimal: you have to be able to feel magic (about 99.9% of people are able to), you have to be a citizen of the Empire or one of its allies (basically 95% of the people ever), and to never have been convicted of a Major Crime (theft on a poor person, murder, attempt to murder...)
  167. [15:33] Slorany: > What is about the type of mage for someone with high intelligence
  168. Probably Healer because you have to study anatomy very very closely and that takes more time than any other Order, save for Animages and some Dreamers
  169. [15:33] the worst developer of all time: WHAT IS THE KIND OF BREAD YOUR PEOPLE EAT
  170. [15:33] the worst developer of all time: :kappa~2:
  171. [15:33] mareck (🌺◠‿◠): Flatbread
  172. [15:33] Slorany: hahaha I have a few recipes I need to try out :p
  173. [15:33] Slorany: will give feedback once I get time and will to do so
  174. [15:34] Slorany: > I was going to ask a magical academia question
  175. go ahead
  176. [15:34] Zethar: (I had someone who wasn't super familiar with me in a game go "I pick up a rock on the road; what kind of rock is it?" and I go "Hrm, it's probably gabbro, let me check")
  177. [15:35] Zethar: 1) Is there formal magic academia [I imagine priests who study ancient language]
  178. 2) What's the career path roadmap
  179. 3) What does the average person think of this?
  180. [15:36] Zethar: the invention of glass is kind of a big deal for a lot of civilization (at least if you're measuring by scientific progress)(edited)
  181. [15:36] Slorany: There is a whole system for educating wanna-be priests, yes. And fields of research, because magic is still not totally understood. it's as much worth of study as physics, because it is what makes the world.
  182. [15:36] the worst developer of all time: What is the whole planet like? Eg. Length of days, years
  183. [15:37] the worst developer of all time: OVERWHELM WITH UNRELATED QUESTIOOOOOOONS
  184. [15:37] Slorany: The career path is: pick an Order, study for it. You can change Order whenever, under the earlier-established conditions.
  185. [15:38] the worst developer of all time: Since you mentioned years
  186. [15:39] Slorany: When you're done enough with the studies to safely cast spells every spell you know on your own, you're free to roam the Empire, become a teacher, study more, or plain just get another job anywhere. You never cease to be a Priest and you still have duties, but you can totally achieve them whilst being a blacksmith or whatever
  187. [15:39] Zethar: I also imagine that magic-aided professions are a thing
  188. [15:39] Slorany: The average person thinks that magic is frightening and knows to respect Priests very much. A priest will get a free room in an inn if he asks for it (many don't ask for it because they're not too cunty and "be humble" is a teaching they're fed)(edited)
  189. [15:40] Slorany: > I also imagine that magic-aided professions are a thing
  190. yep, but magic items aren't, or are very rare, as the knowledge for making them is lost/hasn't been retrieved yet
  191. [15:40] Zethar: probably also has money, unless asceticism is a virtue
  192. [15:41] the worst developer of all time: Slorany are you overflowing or just not answering my questions
  193. [15:41] Slorany: Priests can be as loaded as they want
  194. [15:41] Slorany: > What is the whole planet like? Eg. Length of days, years
  195. day: 26 earth hours
  196. year: 409 days
  197. Axial tilt is similar to the earth's
  198. [15:41] Slorany: It's about 1.3 times as big as earth
  199. [15:41] Zethar: What practices might my friend Joe mistake as magic but aren't?
  200. [15:42] Slorany: Hm... None that I can think of. Perhaps some dwarven automation?
  201. [15:42] the worst developer of all time: What is the crime rate/are magic-aided crimes a thing/does crime even exist/i like cake(edited)
  202. [15:42] Slorany: (dwarves are, very stereotypically, technologically more advanced by a tad)
  203. [15:42] Zethar: (I don't think you actually affirmed if being human is a requirement, but since you used mortal, I guess it isn't?)
  204. [15:42] Slorany: > What is the crime rate/are magic-aided crimes i think/does crime even exist/i like cake
  205. A Priest doesn't commit crimes. Those who do are hunted and executed on the spot without a trial.
  206. [15:43] Slorany: > (I don't think you actually affirmed if being human is a requirement, but since you used mortal, I guess it isn't?)
  207. There are dwarves who're priests, elves, orcs...
  208. [15:43] Kali'iJahuva dhi: lol wouldnt there be some lawless/evil derps who know magic and arent official priest thingies
  209. [15:43] Slorany: GOOD QUESTION
  210. [15:43] Slorany: Yes there are
  211. [15:43] Slorany: They're called Sorcerers, practitioners of Black Art
  212. [15:43] Kali'iJahuva dhi: so basically
  213. yes, there is magic-aided crime
  214. [15:43] Kali'iJahuva dhi: :3
  215. [15:43] the worst developer of all time: :MEGALUL:
  216. [15:43] Slorany: Not really.
  217. [15:43] Kali'iJahuva dhi: then what...
  218. [15:44] the worst developer of all time: do
  219. [15:44] Slorany: Practicing magic without being a priest IS the crime
  220. [15:44] Slorany: It's immediate death
  221. [15:44] the worst developer of all time: what do said sorcerinos do
  222. [15:44] Slorany: they die
  223. [15:44] Slorany: mostly
  224. [15:44] the worst developer of all time: :GODLUL:
  225. [15:45] Slorany: They're as powerful as a priest, but without the discipline and control over Meko.
  226. [15:45] Kali'iJahuva dhi: gg
  227. [15:45] Slorany: They're immensely dangerous
  228. [15:45] Slorany: One of them could destroy a city in seconds
  229. [15:45] the worst developer of all time: sorcerer suicide magic bombs
  230. [15:45] Slorany: And when they're practicing magic, it's too late to teach them how to control it: their body and mind are already attuned and naturally attract Meko
  231. [15:46] Zethar: (The question was "My friend $Name didn't quite make the cut but still wants to magic. What are eir options?" or "So what magic is outlawed?")
  232. [15:46] Slorany: Most of them slowly aggregate Meko and just... Boom.
  233. [15:46] Slorany: and it's not even intentional
  234. [15:46] Zethar: You mentioned magical language. Requirement or optional?
  235. [15:47] Slorany: requirement
  236. [15:47] the worst developer of all time: sorcerer suicide magic bombs should be a thing uh i mean...
  237. [15:47] Zethar: So no full-body morph (unless you retain speech)
  238. [15:47] Slorany: Magic by non-priests is outlawed.
  239. However, there is a sub-rank of priests that those who don't have an affinity for any Order can subscribe to. They're called Natural Magicians, and are very weak.
  240. [15:48] Slorany: > So no full-body morph (unless you retain speech)
  241. You can form the words in your mind if you're learned/attuned with magic enough
  242. [15:48] Slorany: > sorcerer suicide magic bombs should be a thing uh i mean...
  243. it very much is
  244. [15:48] Zethar: OK, so the "chant" part is optional, effectivly(edited)
  245. [15:48] შუქი: These things sound cool.
  246. [15:48] Slorany: usually by people who have had a family member/friend killed by priests and seek vengeance
  247. [15:48] the worst developer of all time: Cuz they are luce
  248. [15:48] the worst developer of all time: Also hey luce
  249. [15:48] შუქი: Hey.
  250. [15:48] Slorany: and yes the vocal part is optional, but it's also a sign that you absolutely shouldn't fuck with that Priest
  251. [15:49] Slorany: Because likely they're very very powerful
  252. [15:49] mareck (🌺◠‿◠): Luce your face looks a tad off today
  253. [15:49] Zethar: How rare is priesthood / how easy is it to become a sorc
  254. [15:49] შუქი: So Sorcerers are basically some sort of evil terrorists?
  255. [15:49] Slorany: and destroying a city wouldn't actually kill them, just make them abit tired
  256. [15:50] Slorany: Priests make for less than 0.05% of the population. While everyone has magic in them and the ability to feel it, those who can actually make the Leap to the High Skies to fetch Meko are very rare.(edited)
  257. [15:50] the worst developer of all time: o
  258. [15:50] შუქი: Wow.
  259. [15:50] Slorany: > So Sorcerers are basically some sort of evil terrorists?
  260. yup
  261. [15:50] Slorany: and becoming a sorcerer is relatively easy: you have to have the capacity to be a Priest but go unnoticed.
  262. [15:51] Kali'iJahuva dhi: lol
  263. [15:51] Zethar: actually spends waaaaaaaay too many hours modelling over small numbers like that that nobody will notice the effort put into it
  264. [15:51] Slorany: Like, if no one ever tells you (or you don't ever tell yourself) "hey I'mma be a Priest), then you're a Sorcerer. And you're dangerous as shit.
  265. [15:51] the worst developer of all time: Paint me like one of your preists slory~
  266. [15:51] შუქი: I suppose they'd run around going 'Meko is great!' or something similar.
  267. [15:51] Slorany: I mean, everyone knows that Meko is great :p
  268. [15:51] შუქი: Yes.
  269. [15:51] Slorany: Everyone believes in the Creator: He is real
  270. [15:52] the worst developer of all time: Touch me with your meko slory~~
  271. [15:52] Slorany: He has manifested Himself in the past
  272. [15:52] Zethar: I meet a fellow Priest from a far-off land; what differences might I find in conduct, especially with respect to magic?
  273. [15:53] the worst developer of all time: Let me shapeshift for you slory~~
  274. [15:53] Zethar: (assuming things like "Priest" is a designation in a far-off land, and that the said land exists)
  275. [15:53] შუქი: Zetty no I should be the one doing that you loll
  276. [15:53] Slorany: The lines of conduct are the same.
  277. Note: there is only one continent, and the Empire controls like 60% of it. And the Temple only exists as it is in the Empire.
  278. [15:55] Zethar: I mean, I guess the obvious follow-up is "So how does magic work in the other 40% of the continent?"
  279. [15:56] Slorany: The amount of knowledge about Magic people have, on the other hand, can vary. In Cities, everyone knows Priests are powerful and evrything. In the countryside, however, mostly weaker priests exist because they're likely people who went to learn how to be a Priest then came back to their village after the training. So very powerful Priests are like legends
  280. [15:56] Zethar: (There might be differences in custom, coloured by local superstition and belief)
  281. [15:56] the worst developer of all time: Slorany you're so Dexterous~~
  282. [15:56] Slorany: And yes, Magic works everywhere. it is the Creation itself, and everything has been Created.
  283. [15:56] Slorany: oh I misread
  284. [15:56] Slorany: alright so
  285. [15:57] Slorany: There are other cultures without the Empire's influence
  286. [15:57] Slorany: those practice chaman-like magic, mostly
  287. [15:57] mareck (🌺◠‿◠): *sh
  288. [15:57] Slorany: same chit
  289. [15:58] the worst developer of all time: :LULUL:
  290. [15:58] Slorany: the most interesting being the Borealians, where mages/shamans are self-sufficient in Meko
  291. [15:58] Slorany: This is due to an overabundance of Meko in the underground where they live
  292. [15:58] Slorany: their people are more attuned to magic and have more directly within themselves
  293. [15:59] Slorany: so they don't need to fetch it from the High Skies
  294. [15:59] the worst developer of all time: So they don't blow up as easily?
  295. [15:59] the worst developer of all time: Ah
  296. [15:59] the worst developer of all time: Wow
  297. [15:59] the worst developer of all time: Cool
  298. [15:59] Slorany: They don't, no, because they never use Meko from the High Skies
  299. [15:59] Zethar: (That like sort of answers a-fraction-of-a-question which I guess I should ask next as a digression)
  300. [15:59] mareck (🌺◠‿◠): I assume Borea(lia)n is the root of all languages
  301. [16:00] Slorany: theorically they'd make terrific Priests, but they are separated from the Empire by huge mountains and a sea, so it basically never happened
  302. [16:01] Zethar: Is magical ability:
  303. * Hereditary
  304. * Location-dependent
  305. * Affected by social upbringing
  306. * Not something you can train
  307. [16:01] Slorany: yeah th'yre separated in the same way Morocco and France are separated, except the mountains in egypt would be way taller
  308. [16:02] Zethar: If I met a shaman from an outland tribe, would trying to speak the ancient/sacred (I forgot what you called it) langauge help?
  309. [16:03] Slorany: Magical ability is genetic, yes.
  310. It is location dependent in terms of initial power (how much Meko is in you), not in terms of actually being able to wield it.
  311. It is not affected by education unless you're learning how to wield magic. Someone who doesn't have the ability to wield magic naturally could theorically be taught to, in a very minimal fashion (like how to be slightly stronger on a few hits of a hammer, etc)
  312. [16:03] Slorany: (the third point answers both question 3 and 4 I think)
  313. [16:06] Slorany: so
  314. [16:07] Slorany: > If I met a shaman from an outland tribe, would trying to speak the divine language help?
  315. Yes. Although very very few of them know (some of) it, only the most powerful, because the Meko itself taught them. They naturally know a few basic words, but it doesn't help them with magic.
  316. but most shamans don't know it at all, because they don't need it.
  317. [16:08] the worst developer of all time: Most importantly, have you made the divine language into a conlang(edited)
  318. [16:08] Slorany: For instance if a shaman is able to make the wind blow around him, they'll know the word for "wind".
  319. [16:08] the worst developer of all time: Or is it too complicated for us to comprehend
  320. [16:08] Slorany: > Most importantly, have you made the divine language into a conlang
  321. Yes, it's my first conlang that I've reworked twice and am reworking another time, hopefully the last
  322. [16:09] the worst developer of all time: gib nam plz and/or documentation
  323. [16:10] Zethar: I guess for the record as the lingua fraca of my world, my conlang (riðemi'jel) is presented as a divine language and the language of magic, although it's more like everyone in the medieval era using Latin because of its associations
  324. [16:10] Slorany: Mekori, but I've deleted all doc as I'm preparing for the rework
  325. [16:10] Slorany: yep, it means "magical words"
