  33. [20:20] <Imako> "He can tell us, and have a chance of obtaining our assistance, or not and get himself killed.. He's not that stupid."
  34. [20:21] <Hiroshi> "What happened with him yesterday that involves him in the first place, though? We're missing some important details."
  35. 06[20:21] * Isamu grumbles incoherently as he massages his forehead. "It's all up to Sanji. He is a headstrong one, and independent at that. You think he'll just let us get involved or tell us anything?"
  36. [20:22] <Imako> "He's headstrong, not suicidal. But i'm sure he can speak for himself there."
  37. [20:23] <Ginko> "I'll hold my tongue on suicidal until we have an idea of what's going on, but right now I wouldn't be so sure."
  38. 06[20:23] * Hiroshi sips his tea. "Well, the former is dependent on the latter I think. It would better to just stop him if he's headed for some fool's errand."
  39. 06[20:23] * Sanji trundles down the stairway, adjusting his pack as best he can
  40. [20:24] <Jun> "He was up at the estate and was talking with Miss Ayami yesterday. The very same Miss Ayami that has a very similar sword to the one we found. Possibly the same maker. He got invited in her estate and I assumed the worse so I left to find the rest of you."
  41. [20:26] <Ginko> "So he returned the sword like he wanted to, and now he wants to go after her?"
  42. [20:26] <Hiroshi> "Sanji! Hold on a moment, don't leave just yet. We need to speak with you before you decide to run off."
  43. 06[20:27] * Sanji pauses in his exodus, a pained expression on his face. "Yes? What it is?"
  44. 06[20:28] * Jun nonchalantly shrugs. "I have no idea."
  45. [20:28] <Ginko> "I think you owe us an explanation, Sanji."
  46. [20:28] <Hiroshi> "Come here for a moment, you can stop long enough to tell us what happened yesterday."
  47. 06[20:30] * Sanji looks as if he is about to leave, but sighs and takes a seat near his friends. "...I think i may have made a mistake"
  48. [20:30] <Imako> "We all make mistakes."
  49. [20:32] <Sanji> "Yesterday, I decided to use my own methods to return the blade and find out why it was special. Sadly, I succeeded."
  50. [20:32] <Hiroshi> "Hence your meeting with Ayami-san that Jun mentioned, correct?"
  51. 06[20:33] * Jun leans forward, head propped up by an palm, and smug looking smile on her face.
  52. 06[20:33] * Ginko leans back in her seat, eyeing Sanji carefully and sipping her tea.
  53. [20:33] <Sanji> "Yes. I...managed to arrange a meeting with her "
  54. [20:33] <Isamu> "And you're saddened by this because?" Isamu shrugs, failing to understand Sanji's position.
  55. 06[20:34] * Sanji scans the room to make sure no one is eavesdropping
  56. [20:34] <Sanji> "The blade," he says, almost in a whisper," was cursed"
  57. [20:36] <Sanji> "All who have possessed the blade have met horrible ends, driven by their deepest desires to irrational decisions"
  58. 06[20:36] * Jun 's smug smile is whipped off her face, replaced with on of surprise and terror.
  59. [20:36] <Hiroshi> "...and she has the blade now, and has gone missing."
  60. [20:36] <Sanji> "Yes..."
  61. [20:37] <Ginko> "Okay. So let me get this straight."
  62. 06[20:37] * Sanji shoulders slump as if under a great weight
  63. [20:37] <Ginko> "There is an incredibly talented swordswoman running around with a sword that is very bad for her to have, and you're going to chase after her."
  64. [20:38] <Ginko> "Do you understand how terrible an idea that sounds?"
  65. [20:38] <Imako> "Still.. did many people see you give it to her?"
  66. 06[20:39] * Sanji 's expression changes as he looks at Ginko. "Yes, it is my responsibility. I was the one to hand it over"
  67. [20:39] <Ginko> "And she has no part in this?"

  69. [20:40] <Sanji> "No" Sanji says shaking his head," Her retainers saw me, but they did not know what it was. The only other person I know of that may know is the man she brought in to test me for taint."
  70. [20:41] <Imako> "hmm, strictly speaking.. we may need to do something, though.. perhaps not jumping onto her blade"
  71. [20:41] <Sanji> "What are you getting at Ginko..."
  72. [20:41] <Hiroshi> "By the fact that you're standing here I'm assuming you passed that test."
  73. [20:41] <Ginko> "You held onto the blade for how long? And she had the blade for how long?"
  74. [20:42] <Imako> "Champions fall, it happens.. It's not something the clans are proud of.. but it shows the strength of the enemy we face."
  75. [20:43] <Imako> "Problem being if the curse gets to her and she ends up killing someone over it, they'll be looking for who brought her the curse to start with."
  76. [20:43] <Ginko> "I make no suggestion that they don't, but why would someone like him be able to hold onto it as long as he had with no effects, and she fall prey to it in half a day."
  77. [20:43] <Isamu> "Well it's doesn't seem to be our place to get involved in Clan politics now. Lest we remember what happened last time."
  78. 06[20:43] * Imako points to sanji "Which would be you."
  79. [20:44] <Imako> "We may not need to take it back, but leaving it unsupervised is a good way to get a manhunt let loose for Sanji, and in turn, ourselves."
  80. [20:45] <Ginko> "Allow me to offer this then."
  81. [20:45] <Sanji> "You don't know the power it holds Ginko...."
  82. [20:45] <Ginko> "You said that the blade causes people to act on their desires, yes?"
  83. [20:45] <Sanji> "...Yes"
  84. [20:46] <Sanji> "I suppose it would be better to say that passion consumes them"Sanji continues, a baleful smile staining his visage
  85. [20:47] <Ginko> "Then let's say we go after it. We chase after someone like her. Let's say we even catch up with her despite her lead on us. How do we determine whether she is or is not under the effect?"
  86. [20:47] <Ginko> "And more to the point, how do we demonstrate that -you- aren't."
  87. 06[20:48] * Isamu raises an eyebrow at Ginko's inquiry, be slowly turns his gaze to Sanji. "A valid point."

  89. [20:49] <Ginko> "In fact, I wonder if you aren't even now. As I said. If she was affected by the blade, it took place in a very short amount of time. And you had the sword far longer than that."
  90. 06[20:49] * Sanji 's expression fluctuates between one of Anger, confusion and sorrow
  91. [20:49] <Imako> "Which is why I said throwing ourselves onto her blade isn't the way to go about it.. but may wish to set ourselves up so that if that DOES happen, they don't look to the mysterious ronin carrying a centuries-old blade to her as a agent of the shadow seeking to cause chaos and try to hunt him down."
  92. [20:49] <Hiroshi> "Part of me wonders if she simply took off to go have it destroyed or some such, taking that same consideration."
  93. [20:50] <Ginko> "We are making several assumptions on very little information, and most of the outcomes that I foresee in acting on this information involve our death."
  94. 06[20:50] * Sanji slams his one fist on the table, his features settling on anger for now "So must I ignore my duty to save myself!"
  95. [20:51] <Sanji> "That is not how I was taught. That is not the way of the Crane."
  96. [20:51] <Jun> "She probably wouldn't leave without saying something about this."
  97. [20:51] <Ginko> "Control yourself, or I might be even more swayed to believe you under the influence of the sword."
  98. [20:52] <Sanji> "And how would I prove this to you? Tell me, what would make you certain that I am myself?"
  99. [20:53] <Ginko> "If I knew that, I wouldn't be hesitating to go off after them. Do you think they would not ask the same question of you?"
  100. [20:54] <Ginko> "A powerful duelist under the influence of a sword being chased by the same man that carried the sword before her. Do you think that would not put her on guard?"
  101. 06[20:55] * Sanji lets loose a howl and sweeps his arm across the table in impotent rage
  102. 06[20:56] * Hiroshi stands up from the table.
  103. 06[20:56] * Isamu leans back as the contents go flying. "Hmph..."
  104. [20:56] <Hiroshi> "Sanji, calm yourself!"
  105. 06[20:56] * Sanji turns, breathing heavily, and walks out the door
  106. 06[20:57] * Ginko quirks a brow, taking another sip of her tea. "If we're working on the assumption that she was affected by the blade, it is not ill-advised to consider the same of Sanji."
  107. [20:58] <Imako> "We should probably go chase him down before he gets himself killed, and all of us by proxy."
  108. [20:59] <Isamu> "Well that confirms a few questions. And unmasks a whole new mess." Isamu stands up shaking off any debris from his kimono. "I'll trail him. Easier if the whole group doesn't go. To see if he leaves the city."
  109. [21:02] <Ginko> "I wonder how he intends to catch up with her. She has the advantage of time, and we don't know if she left by horse."
  110. [21:02] <Ginko> "If she did, we stand no chance of catching up to her."
  111. [21:03] <Imako> "Either way, everyone present just witnessed us get into an argument with him, he chases after her and that cursed sword and we all become co-conspirators getting in a fight over payment."
  112. [21:03] <Imako> "It's in all of our best interests to stop him."
  113. [21:04] <Jun> "I'm going with you, Isamu. No telling what you may be volunteering for."
  114. [21:04] <Isamu> "Well, he might not know or care. Given his current state of mind. Well let us go Jun." Isamu gathers his Daisho and heads out the door. Once outside he pauses to look for the direction Sanji went in. If failing to see Sanji, he asks someone by the door for the direction the one-armed Crane left in.
  115. [21:04] <Ginko> "Wonderful. I do so enjoy being dragged around by impulse."
  116. [21:06] <Imako> "Sometimes things like this are a blessing in disguise."
  117. [21:06] <Imako> "Provided we survive, of course.". We should probably be thinking of how we can mitigate some of the potential damage he can do right about now."
  118. [21:08] <Hiroshi> (to Imako:) "Shall we follow them, or wait here in the tea house in case he comes back?"
  119. 01[21:08] <~KingGheedorah> 6Jun spots Sanji easily as he pushes through the crowd towards the Yorimoto manse at the other end of town, toward the forbidding Magistrate's tower.
  120. 06[21:09] * Ginko opens her mouth to respond to Imako, but shuts it. Finishing her cup of tea, she rises, shaking her head, and begins to walk. "We'll save Jun and Isamu the trouble of coming back to get us when things inevitably go wrong."
  121. [21:10] <Hiroshi> "Very well then."
  122. [21:10] <Imako> "I would prefer to be there if blades are drawn.. but at the same time, it might be best if we think of a way to pull our necks out of the fire if the blade has gotten to Ayami and she goes mad.. either way, I agree with Ginko, we have more options if we're in the middle of the fire."
  123. 06[21:11] * Hiroshi goes with Ginko, stopping to leave a message with whatever person is available at the tea house. "If our one armed friend returns... our silver-haired one-armed friend, that is, please tell him to wait here."
  124. 06[21:12] * Jun points Sanji out to Isamu.
  125. 01[21:12] <~KingGheedorah> 6Attitudes throughout the city have already changed. The Lion are filled with more smugness and swagger than ever, if that is possible. The Crane maintain their aloofness, however there is an undercurrent of nervousness to it that is palpable. The Mantis guards and soldiers look even more uncertain, and keep their hands near their weapons.
  126. 06[21:12] * Isamu is about to browbeat some poor peasant for Sanji's direction of travel, but is halted by Jun's point. "Oh! Thanks. Lets go before we loose him." Isamu hurries after Sanji's tall form, making sure to stay back some distance.
  127. [21:15] <Jun> /me picks up the pace, "Yes, let's!"
  128. 01[21:15] <~KingGheedorah> 6After a short walk Sanji reaches the high fence surrounding the Yorimito estate. A pair of spearmen ashigaru stand guard.
  129. [21:17] <Sanji> "I wish to see Kakita Ayami-sama" Sanji, addresses them, knowing full well she is not here
  130. 01[21:17] <~KingGheedorah> "She isn't here."
  131. 01[21:17] <~KingGheedorah> "Haven't you heard?"
  132. 06[21:18] * Sanji shrugs "That would explain much. Do you know where she has gone?"
  133. 01[21:21] <~KingGheedorah> "She had said she was returning home, to Shiro sano no Kakita."
  134. 01[21:22] <~KingGheedorah> "Though why she needed to leave in the middle of the night on her fastest horse is anyone's guess. It is nearly a months' ride!"
  135. [21:22] <Sanji> "She was alone then? How unusual"
  136. 01[21:23] <~KingGheedorah> "Two if she takes Seikitsu Pass through the Spine,"6 the other guard says.
  137. 01[21:23] <~KingGheedorah> "Not really,"6 the first guard chuckles.1 "It /is/ Kakita Ayami-sama, after all. Who in their right mind would bother her?"
  138. [21:24] <Sanji> "True" Sanji says with a strained smile and nervous chuckle
  139. [21:25] <Sanji> "I assume she would take the faster route if she was in such of a hurry"
  140. [21:27] <Sanji> "Ah well, I will have to see her another time then." *shrug* "Thank you" Sanji says bowing slightly
  141. 06[21:28] * Sanji turns and walks away from the manse
  142. 01[21:29] <~KingGheedorah> 6He nods.1 "Through Seikitsu Pass, yes." "Seikitsu Pass is the /slower/ one, idiot,"6 the second guard laughs.1 "You're stupid, you are,"6 the first one retorts.1 "That's /Iuchi Pass/."
  143. 01[21:31] <~KingGheedorah> "Oh. Right. I always confuse those two."
  144. 06[21:35] * Sanji heads to the tiny tea house from before to gather his thoughts
  145. 01[21:40] <~KingGheedorah> 6On your way you nearly bump into Jun and Imako, who in turn are nearly bumped from behind by Ginko, Hiroshi and Isamu.
  146. [21:40] <Ginko> "How convenient."
  147. [21:40] <Ginko> "You aren't being chased by anyone, so I assume things went as well as they could be expected."
  148. 06[21:41] * Sanji glares at Ginko, but does not answer
  149. [21:41] <Isamu> "Oh, well then..." Isamu says unsubtly, placing his hand on the back of his head.
  150. [21:41] <Hiroshi> "And everyone's in one piec-"
  151. [21:41] <Hiroshi> "Well, all the usually pieces at least."
  152. [21:41] <Jun> "He only got as far as the guards in front of the gate."
  153. [21:42] <Ginko> "And what did the guards say?"
  154. 06[21:42] * Imako glares at Sanji "Do you need me to tell you how stupid what you just tried to do was? How it, in itself goes against the code of bushido or can we accept this as a loss and plan what to do now?"
  155. [21:42] <Sanji> "She left, /alone/ in the middle of the night, on her fastest horse."
  156. [21:43] <Ginko> "She has a horse. Wonderful."
  157. 06[21:43] * Sanji seems struck by Imako's words
  158. [21:43] <Isamu> "Well that certainly limits our options now. No chance in catching her."
  159. [21:43] <Imako> "She was carrying a cursed blade, if it seduces those who hold it, it might seduce those around them, travelling alone may be the safest way to take it."
  160. [21:44] <Imako> "Her fastest horse so she was not exposed to it any longer than she should be."
  161. [21:44] <Imako> "You gave a cursed blade to your superior so that she may dispose of it, by doubting that she was going to do so, or that she wasn't capable of handling it means you doubted someone your former clan put as your superior, and in turn, doubted your clan."
  162. [21:44] <Sanji> "It will take her /at least/ a month to reach her advertised destination"
  163. [21:45] <Hiroshi> "In any event, there's no way we'll ever catch her. If it will take her a month, it will take us considerably longer."
  164. [21:45] <Imako> "Had she gone powermad, you would have been a hero, had she not, you would have been a cursed fool who would have your names struck from the family records. It was foolish."
  165. [21:45] <Isamu> "And it will take us a lot longer on foot, Sanji."
  166. [21:45] <Sanji> "No, that is not what I am trying to say" Sanji seems frustrated
  167. [21:45] <Imako> "Trust that someone of her skill has the willpower to resist the pull of the blade, and if she does not.. that is her dishonor, not yours."
  168. [21:46] <Sanji> "How long did /I/ have the blade."
  169. 06[21:48] * Sanji looks at Imako, looking like he wants to say something, but ultimately remains silent
  170. [21:48] <Hiroshi> "Well, you haven't killed yourself yet, so I imagine you're probably going to be fine. (speaking in a low voice:) You said you were tested for taint yesterday."
  171. [21:49] <Isamu> "See, it's not all bad. We're no worse than we were yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that..."
  172. 06[21:51] * Sanji tears his eyes from Imako, casting them at the ground instead
  173. [21:52] <Hiroshi> "Well, at any rate we should head back to the tea house for now, and think about where to go from here."
  174. [21:52] <Jun> "Let us just go and calm our heads back at the inn. Perhaps after a while we can make a plan about what to do?"
  175. 06[21:53] * Imako pats Sanji on the shoulder "But.. what you did was brave, foolish, but brave.. be proud of that, just.. use your head before falling onto a sword needlessly next time.. lets head back."
  176. [21:54] <Isamu> "Aye... Maybe then we can think about how we're going to feed ourselves in the long run." Isamu sighs and slides his arm inside his kimono as he starts to head back for the tea house.
  177. 06[21:54] * Sanji sighs deeply
  178. 06[21:55] * Hiroshi heads back to the tea house.
  179. 06[21:55] * Ginko follows Hiroshi, remaining silent.
  180. 06[21:55] * Imako nods to Isamu "Our purse isn't exactly empty.. but I agree, we need a more.. permenant arrangement."
  181. 06[21:56] * Sanji follows behind the group a short distance
  182. 01[21:56] <~KingGheedorah> 6The tea house is exactly as you left it.
  183. [21:57] <Isamu> "Permanent arrangements are hard to come by for people like us. Though there are stories and rumors abound about what people like us can do." Isamu says as he sits down at their table.
  184. [21:58] <Hiroshi> "I suggest we take this discussion to one of our rooms, if you don't mind."
  185. 06[21:58] * Imako nods "Plenty of stories, my uncle used to tell me them all the time.. people like us either spend their days fighting for survival, find a home and protect it until their last, or save the empire and get a clan of their own."
  186. 06[21:59] * Imako nods at Hiroshi "probably smart."
  187. 06[22:00] * Isamu gives Hiroshi a confused look, but sighs and nods. "Fine, fine." He stands and follows.
  188. 06[22:01] * Hiroshi heads up the stairs, opens the door to the room he shares with Isamu, and enters.
  189. 06[22:05] * Ginko follows Hiroshi up, after arranging for more tea to be delivered.
  190. 01[22:07] <~KingGheedorah> 6The young girl behind the counter follows you up with a pot of tea and six cups. She leaves them outside the door, bows, and heads back downstairs.
  191. 06[22:08] * Sanji approaches the young girl "Excuse me"
  192. 01[22:08] <~KingGheedorah> 6She pauses.1 "Yes?"
  193. 06[22:08] * Ginko pours everyone a cup of tea, before taking hers up. "Now then. How do we proceed from here?"
  194. [22:08] <Isamu> "So, more privacy huh?" Isamu says as he watches the younger girl move out of earshot. Entering the room he takes a seat in a corner, removing his katana as he sits. "Well I assume you have something good to add."
  195. [22:10] <Hiroshi> "I'm just thinking, that discussion of where we move forward from here might involve certain factors, like certain things we found in Umoeru Mura, which is a matter best left in private."
  196. [22:10] <Sanji> "I would like to apologize for the scene I made earlier this morning. I was frustrated. If you accept, I would like to express my sincerity by purchasing you another set"
  197. [22:10] <Hiroshi> "No surprises, for you at least."
  198. [22:11] <Ginko> "I assume at this point the option of pursuing Kakita Ayami has been shelved."
  199. 01[22:11] <~KingGheedorah> "Oh!"6 She seems surprised.
  200. 01[22:12] <~KingGheedorah> "No need, samurai-san. We are thankful for your custom."
  201. [22:12] <Isamu> "I personally don't feel like walking all the way across the spine again." Isamu adds.
  202. [22:13] <Hiroshi> "We won't need to, at least in the near future. It's quite a ways north before we come to it again."
  203. [22:15] <Ginko> "So we are back to the options we had last night before any of this happened."

  209. [22:18] <Ginko> "Now, given our travelling companions, I am going to imagine that simply leaving the Crane and Lion to go to war over this place is not an acceptable option."
  210. 01[22:19] <~KingGheedorah> "I-I-I..."6 She suddenly bows as low as she can, nearly flattening herself on the floor.1 "Thank you thank you thank you, samurai-san!"
  211. [22:19] <Isamu> "I'm partial to whatever keeps us from going hungry. Which means something that will pay us." Isamu shrugs. "Makes you wonder if we can profit this current situation."
  212. [22:20] <Hiroshi> "We're not short on money, if you're worried about that. We can go a very long time on what we have while keeping ourselves well-fed."
  213. [22:20] <Imako> "I would prefer not to see my clansmen go to war over ths place, if possible.. though from the sounds of it, we're on bad terms with both sides, and i'm not entirely certain an from us would be noted.
  214. 06[22:20] * Sanji smiles "Just keep up the good work". At this he turns and proceeds to Hiro's room
  215. [22:20] <Imako> "If however we succeed, we stand to gain favor with the clans, and thus the potential for work."
  216. 01[22:21] <~KingGheedorah> 6She scurries back downstairs, somehow managing to bow repeatedly as she does so.
  217. [22:21] <Hiroshi> "To say that we're on bad terms with both sides would be going to far I think. However, it's still true that we aren't in the best position to take action in this."
  218. [22:21] <Ginko> "We may not be in good standing with either the Crane or Lion, but we may have an option with the Mantis."
  219. [22:21] <Isamu> "But with our luck we're just going to cause more trouble. Why not stand back and intervene only if we see it necessary."
  220. [22:22] <Imako> "and" looking towards sanji "provided the worst case scenario with that.. it would provide us with reasonin to clear our name, as opposed ot the ronin who broke into the tension, corrupted the leader of one side and left -- we'd look like spies, which would make us enemies of the empire."
  221. 06[22:22] * Imako sighs "Of course, provided all goes well, that won't be an issue but.."
  222. [22:23] <Ginko> "I highly doubt our ragtag band could intervene in time to stop anything. If we're going to tackle this, it has to be proactive, not reactive."
  223. 06[22:23] * Sanji frowns as he comes in
  224. [22:25] <Jun> "Or, perhaps we can avoid the entire situation entirely, and be on our merry way?"
  225. [22:25] <Ginko> "I would be delighted to, but I doubt we would come to a consensus on that issue."
  226. [22:26] <Ginko> "That being the case, it is to our advantage to find out what we can do, rather than what we can't."
  227. [22:26] <Isamu> "What's to say we help some the merchants and lower castes here. I'm sure they're just as eager to see this thing through as we are."
  228. [22:26] <Imako> "We don't stop them, we just give them a bigger bad to fight."
  229. [22:27] <Ginko> "Such as?"
  230. [22:27] <Imako> "They're too busy staring each other down to notice, as isamu said, the lower castes and merchants, we just need to find something or someone taking advantage of the situation."
  231. [22:28] <Imako> "We then direct their attention towards it. Give them something else to fight and they'll forget about each other long enough for us to find a way to intervene.
  232. [22:30] <Isamu> "Say we sell our services as bodyguards. I'm sure some merchants would be more than willing to have someone unaffiliated with this mess watching out for them. From there we gather some of rumors of the area, either from the lower castes or the clans themselves. That gives us the information we need to sort this mess out."
  233. [22:30] <Imako> "Or, of course, we could try the other route."
  234. [22:31] <Imako> "I could simply go there and hope someone I know is present, if so.. I can get their ear.. or we could just skip town and leave a clan war to break out as Isamu suggested, suppose we ARE ronin, it's not our fight."
  235. [22:31] <Hiroshi> "The storm that shipwrecked us has slowed us considerably on our pursuit as it is. How much longer are you thinking we would spend here?"
  236. [22:32] <Ginko> "I was expecting to meet fiercer resistance to the idea of leaving, to be honest."
  237. 06[22:32] * Imako shrugged "Glory isn't gained by taking the path of least resistance.. but I understand what you are saying, perhaps it is for the best."
  238. [22:33] <Ginko> "Assuming that we want to just cut and run, we could be out of here tomorrow."
  239. [22:33] <Isamu> "I'm only averse to leaving if it means we spend another undermined amount of time walking someplace. I hate sleeping on the grass."
  240. [22:33] <Imako> "I do not wish to leave, but I am one person, we are six.. I can't force you all to fight a battle for me if your hearts are truely not in it."
  241. 06[22:34] * Sanji turns away
  242. [22:35] <Hiroshi> "Just by what we know, it makes more sense. The dispute here is a land dispute between two clans none among us are part of, and we aren't even privy to the details of what's at its root. Meanwhile we have witnessed ourselves that something more foul is brewing further north. If you can think of a good course of action to address the events here I'm willing to listen, but I think it wiser to move on."
  243. [22:35] <Ginko> "I suggest we stay a week and weigh our options. In that time, if we can't find anything that works in our favor of changing things here, we can at least investigate the Lady Doji's Fan."
  244. [22:35] <Imako> "I agree Isamu, if we leave, I would rather do so on horses or by boat.. which would require patronage from one of the clans, or very rich merchants who just happen to be passing by."
  245. 06[22:36] * Imako looks to Hiroshi "I may not bear my clan's mon anymore, but I am a lion from the breath I draw to the blood within my body.. Do not tell me I am not part of them."
  246. 06[22:36] * Isamu grins at Imako. "Now we're talking. Convince some fat merchant he needs our services, and we're set for a few weeks. Maybe even longer."
  247. [22:36] <Imako> "I do not push the issue out of respect for the wishes of the group.. but do not presume to tell me where my loyalties lies."
  248. [22:37] <Hiroshi> "Fair enough, but I doubt they will see it the same way."
  249. 06[22:37] * Ginko waits, taking in some of her tea.
  250. [22:38] <Imako> "Whether or not they do, they may need it."
  251. 06[22:38] * Sanji walks over to the window and stares outside
  252. [22:39] <Imako> "Water splashed does not always return to the lake.. we saw the evil we are chasing attempt to start a clan war before we stopped it, the town we end up in just happens to have one brewing as well."
  253. [22:39] <Imako> "For all we know this could be connected, as you said.. we do not know the source or the cause, we just assume it's a simple land dispute."
  254. [22:39] <Imako> "But as I said, I will go with the groups wishes, however you wish to handle it."

  256. [22:42] <Hiroshi> "If we take a job as bodyguards, what then? How do we move from there?"

  258. [22:43] <Isamu> "What else? We go about our lives that way. Everything we've touched has seemed to grow cold. The jade, the blade, this land grab."
  259. [22:45] <Imako> "Looking at it from the other side, everything we've touched has also lead us deeper into the darkness."
  260. [22:46] <Imako> "As the stories go, that path leads to defeat or glory, turning our back on it simply starts a new story."
  261. [22:47] <Hiroshi> "As a matter of curiosity, what would you view as an agreeable solution to the dispute in this town?"
  262. [22:48] <Jun> "Ignore it. It isn't our fight or our problem."
  263. [22:49] <Imako> "I can't answer that.. we know too little. As I said, if we dig deeper would could find a connection to everything else thus far, we could win ourselves some favor with the clans in the process. For all I know this could be the start of a much larger clan war, if so diverting it or bringing it to a bloodless end would suffice, worst case scenario
  264. [22:49] <Imako> we make a name for ourselves in attempting, if all else fails, it'd help us get a spot with some fat merchant."
  265. [22:50] <Imako> "You musn't forget, while we may have been raised as samurai and carry our blades, to most who see us we are nothing but children pretending to be samurai."
  266. [22:51] <Hiroshi> "I'm aware of that, and it's rather a troublesome aspect of our standing in relation to the other pieces of this conflict."
  267. [22:51] <Sanji> "Wisdom from the mouth of babes" Sanji mutters, a twinge of bitterness in his voice
  268. [22:53] <Isamu> "Tch... Then we gotta start acting like adults. Show them we aren't the youths they think we are. What better way than to start by taking on adult responsibilities."
  269. [22:53] <Imako> "If you have a better plan, do tell. But those who have heard of our names would be people heard our exploits in the last village.. which didn't exactly end with hour names being sung in praise. No merchant we would want to do business with would carry us on that alone, and they surely wouldn't carry a bunch of children pretending to be samurai."
  270. [22:54] <Imako> "So our choices are to make a name for ourselves, or.. try our luck, as ginko said.. would be better to spend a week exploring our options."
  271. [22:58] <Imako> "But, that said.. Remember why we left the last town? the incident with the jade?"
  272. [22:58] <Imako> "What do you expect would have happened had that reached the wall?
  273. [23:00] <Hiroshi> "That incident is exactly why I'd think we should keep moving north. We've already fallen well behind the /Fan/, and the coastal towns are more likely to know about it's path or whereabouts.
  274. [23:00] <Imako> "Stop thinking about the end and think about the beginning, hiroshi."
  275. [23:00] <Imako> "What would have happened had it reached the wall?"
  276. [23:00] <Imako> "What was the reason for doing that in the first place?'
  277. [23:02] <Isamu> "Because we somehow got roped into the mess by virtue of being either new or nosy." Isamu snarks. "But seriously, what do we start with here? Gleaning the village for every once of rumor and hearsay?"
  278. [23:03] <Imako> "I will answer for you, many people would have become tainted and died, the crabs would have blamed the mantis for cheating them on the shipment, at best a clan war would break out, at worst, the emperor would declare the mantis traitors to the empire."
  279. [23:04] <Imako> "We come upon this town, on the same route, and something similar is happening between the lion and crane -- two clans that often fight, but why? and why did we just happen upon it while chasing the winds of another war?"
  280. [23:04] <Imako> "I am saying we should at very least poke around and find the causes here, the two points may relate.. and I would prefer to not see my clansmen die pointlessly with their strings being pulled by some two-bit taintmonger."
  281. [23:05] <Imako> "Either way, we should not become so focused on a single tree that we miss the forest."
  282. [23:09] <Hiroshi> "Naturally there's the flip side of that, if we stop to focus everything that looks like it might be related, we'll lose the greater bounty."
  283. [23:10] <Imako> "Better to take a risk for glory than to play it safe and have the world burn around us while we run."
  284. 06[23:10] * Ginko finishes her tea, and sets it down. "As thrilling as this discussion is, I'm going to adjourn for a while. I'll be back sometime, you guys can fill me in on what we're doing then."
  285. [23:11] <Imako> "Plus, even if it's nothing, we could probably get horses out of it, if things go well and we garner some favor."
  286. 06[23:12] * Hiroshi lets out a slight chuckle. "I suspect there's little safety in either path. I simply would like a good way to address this situation from where we stand."
  287. 06[23:12] * Ginko rises, and exits the room, heading downstairs, and then out of the inn, taking a moment to gather herself before setting off for the manse.

  291. [23:13] <Imako> "Regardless, we are going in circles, I say we take ginko's advice, take a week to explore our options, have a few of us look for a caravan, the rest of us investigate what's going on, if we find something that merits our intervention we act, otherwise we leave."
  292. 01[23:13] <~KingGheedorah> 6Megumi seems to be holding another concerto. Fumiyo is front and center at this one.
  293. 06[23:14] * Isamu scratches his neck as his thinks. "Hmph... Compelling argument. Though I'm hesitant to think any choice we make is the easy route, like Hiroshi says." Isamu groans and leans against the wall. "Well it would seem like we have the intention of spending some time here. I'll look into the caravan stuff. Maybe even find out anything while I'm at it."
  294. [23:15] <Isamu> "I have a feeling, that with my current mindset I'll get along better with someone who isn't part of the great Clans right now."
  295. [23:16] <Hiroshi> "Very well then. We'll stay here the week, and see what we will. I'll accompany you, Isamu."

  297. 01[23:16] <~KingGheedorah> 6After a short walk you are back at the Yorimoto manse. The guard has changed and there are a different pair of ashigaru outside.
  298. 06[23:18] * Ginko walks up to the guards and bows. "Excuse me, is the Lord Yoritomo present?"
  299. 01[23:19] <~KingGheedorah> "He is, yes."
  300. 06[23:20] * Isamu nods to Hiroshi. "Great. Imako, why don't you, Jun, and Sanji check around one of the camps? Lion or Crane, take your pick, I'm sure something will turn up." He says with a smile.
  301. [23:20] <Ginko> "Is he with company? I would like to have an audience with him, but do not wish to interrupt."
  302. 06[23:21] * Sanji nods
  303. 01[23:21] <~KingGheedorah> 6He sighs.1 "Let me fetch a runner."
  304. 01[23:22] <~KingGheedorah> 6He gives a call and, after a few moments, a runner appears.1 "Inform the Lord Yorimito that a..."6 He turns.1 "What did you say your name was, samurai-san?"
  305. [23:22] <Jun> "It's a possibility. Better than sitting around watching you argue for the rest of the day.."
  306. [23:23] <Ginko> "I am Ginko."
  307. 01[23:24] <~KingGheedorah> 6He looks at you expectantly.
  308. [23:25] <Ginko> "Bayushi Ginko."
  309. 01[23:25] <~KingGheedorah> "Oh."

  311. 01[23:25] <~KingGheedorah> 6He turns to the runner.1 "Inform the Lord Yorimoto that, ah, Bayushi Ginko-san wishes an audience."
  312. 06[23:25] * Imako nod "I would suggest the lion camp, perhaps we can find someone I know. Sanji doesn't seem to be in any state to negotiate with the cranes."
  313. [23:26] <Sanji> "No... I'm fine"
  314. [23:26] <Sanji> "Anything is fine"
  315. [23:26] <Isamu> "Well we wouldn't argue the rest of the day. I'm sure we'd break for sake for you Jun." Isamu chuckles as he stands, returning his katana to his obi. "Well I feel like starting, and maybe some fresh air." He leaves the room, assuming no one stops him.
  316. 06[23:27] * Hiroshi follows Isamu out, giving the remaining companions a nod on the way out.
  317. 01[23:28] <~KingGheedorah> 6After a few minutes, the runner returns, out of breath.1 "Come with me, please."6 The guards uncross their spears and open the gate for you.
  318. 06[23:28] * Ginko bows to the guards, and then follows the runner.
  319. 01[23:29] <~KingGheedorah> 6The runner leads you up the path and into the house; a long, low, one-storey building that looks remarkably like a ship emerging out of the ground; the hedges around it cut artfully to resemble waves.
  320. 06[23:30] * Isamu leaves the tea house, once out into the street he sighs exasperated, with a slightly annoyed look. "All this trouble for a bunch of Lions and Cranes." He mutters, between him and Hiroshi. "I'd sooner just try to make a living without any of them."
  321. 01[23:31] <~KingGheedorah> 6You are taken inside, where the runner escorts you to a lavish waiting room.1 "Someone will be along shortly,"6 he says, bowing once before exiting.
  322. 06[23:31] * Ginko nods, and then pulls out her fan, toying with it idly as she waits.
  323. [23:36] <Hiroshi> "Where should we start then?"
  324. 01[23:37] <~KingGheedorah> 6After ten minutes of waiting a tall, thin older man arrives.1 "I am sorry, Bayushi-san,"6 he says with a smile.1 "Lord Yorimoto Hachirou-sama is... indisposed. I am his advisor, Yorimoto Shin."
  325. 01[23:37] <~KingGheedorah> 6He gestures to the room from which he just entered.1 "Please, come with me. I will have tea brought to us, and we can discuss... whatever it is you have come to discuss."
  326. 06[23:38] * Ginko bows to Shin. "Thank you for your kindness."
  327. 06[23:38] * Ginko follows after Shin.
  328. [23:38] <Isamu> "I'd suggest the market, but we're bound to run into more than a few of the Lions and Cranes. Maybe we try a different area. You think there's a trader district here?"
  329. [23:41] <Jun> "We passed through one on the way in here yesterday."
  330. 01[23:42] <~KingGheedorah> 6He takes you to an audience chamber, and, at a whistle, a young boy arrives bearing a tray with a teapot and two cups. He deposits it on the floor and bows, retreating. Shin pours and offers you a cup.
  331. 06[23:42] * Ginko takes it, bowing deeply.
  332. 01[23:42] <~KingGheedorah> "Now then, Bayushi-san. What can I do for you?"
  333. [23:43] <Ginko> "There are a number of things I would speak with you about, but given the current state of affairs, I would ask a question first."
  334. [23:44] <Ginko> "I heard a summary from a serving girl at the inn I'm staying at, but if possible, would you explain the current situation to me? I would like to be of help, if I am able."
  335. 06[23:44] * Imako looks to Jun "Then perhaps we should head there?"
  336. 01[23:45] <~KingGheedorah> 6He sighs.1 "Ah, yes. A most unfortunate predicament."
  337. 01[23:46] <~KingGheedorah> "We have enjoyed several generations of prosperity here in Shaisa as a land trading hub between the Crane, Scorpion and Crab, being along the main road connecting Kyden Bayushi and Kyden Hida."
  338. 01[23:47] <~KingGheedorah> "Recently, however, the Lion have started claiming sovereignty over several villages east of Shinomen Mori, citing an ancient document leaving them to the 'Sons of Akodo'. This Akodo Noburo seems to think he can curry favor among the Lion elders with this move, and perhaps gain Clan Champion status."
  339. 01[23:50] <~KingGheedorah> "Our position so close to Crane lands makes them a natural ally, and when this trouble first started I wrote to Lord Daidoji Jurou-sama in Ookami Toshi for aid. He sent a small contigent of his bushi to help enforce order, in exchange for closer ties between the Crane and the Mantis."
  340. [23:52] <Hiroshi> "Well, running into them isn't so much a problem as long as we don't pick a fight or anything stupid."

A shame."6 He spreads his hands helplessly.1 "With Kakita Ayami-sama within the city, the Lion could do little more than preen and posture, as if it came to blades crossed she would most certainly be involved, and even the Lion are not so brazen as to challenge one of her caliber. Now that she is gone..."

  353. 06[00:02] * Imako nods finishing her tea "Well then, to the markets, if we can get our hopeless bodyguard to stop moping at the window and escort us like a gentleman."
  354. [00:04] <Ginko> "Well, I was wondering about the authenticity of such a document myself. It seems incredibly...convenient."
  355. [00:05] <Isamu> "Mmm, watch and learn. Well maybe we'll see a few of our peers in action and learn a thing or two about how we need to conduct ourselves while on duty."

On his arm is a pale, slender waif of a woman, fifteen if you had to guess, with dark hair and very large, expressive eyes.

Takashi glances at you from down his nose for a moment before turning his charming sneer on Shin.1 "Well enough, considering the company. Come, darling,"6 he drones to the girl.1 "Show me these pitiful excuses for a gardens you are so enamoured with."

Though things do take a rather great deal of time to arrive here, it seems."6 He affects a yawn.1 "I am tired. I believe I shall sleep. Perhaps until the wedding."6 He turns and limps away.

Akodo Noburo lounges magnificiently on an ornate sedan chair, looking all the world like some great warlord, with his glittering host in attendance.

  429. 06[01:23] * Isamu stops by a corner stall, passing a glance through the crowds. Looking in the sea of people for some who might be taken for a bodyguard at best, or a ronin at worst. "You seen any?" He says to Hiroshi as he tries to stick close to his compatriot.

  431. [01:26] <Hiroshi> "No, I figured it might be the case. This place is so packed with the Lion and Crane on top of the actual guards, there's no way anyone would need bodyguards here. Probably easier to find people interested in heading out from here up to Kyuden Bayushi."

  450. 06[01:39] * Imako waves her hand "Think nothing of it, I have had enough time to feel sorry for myself. What has happened has happened, my body is that of a lion, regardless.. I will live as I had otherwise, I have no intentions of dishonoring my ancestors anymore than I have. Regardless, this is too depressing of a topic for a place like this."

  453. 06[01:41] * Sanji leaves the tea shop and heads towards the marketplace in search of fish cakes
  454. 01[01:42] <~KingGheedorah> 6As if on cue, Ikoma Megumi launches into another song. Her voice appears to be slightly strained from her earlier performance, however, and does not do her usual talent justice; lovely as it is.
  455. 01[01:43] <~KingGheedorah> 6When finished she bows lightly and rejoins her husband, sitting at the leg of his chair. The crowd begins to disperse.
  456. 01[01:43] <~KingGheedorah> 6Sanji, you spot the rest of the group - save for Ginko - milling about the market square.

  458. 01[01:45] <~KingGheedorah> 6They are scattered, with Imako speaking to the Lion woman from Umoera Mura, Jun buying a needle and thread, and Hiroshi and Isamu wandering about, talking.

  463. [01:51] <Imako> "Imako. Former Kitsu. We were shipwrecked, ended up in the mountains and finally made our way here."
  464. [01:51] <Isamu> "Hmph, you would think with those rumors of bandits in and around Umoera Mura there would be more opportunities for those caravans heading that direction." Isamu pauses to continue to scan the crowds.
  465. [01:52] <Hiroshi> "I doubt it, that's a ways away, even if you take a more normal route."
  466. 01[01:52] <~KingGheedorah> 6Fumiyo nods approvingly.1 "Sounds like quite the journey."
  467. [01:52] <Jun> "Have fun enduring another woman's criticisms?"
  468. [01:53] <Isamu> "You seem to be pretty knowledgeable, Hiroshi. Give me your take on what's going on up north."
  469. 01[01:54] <~KingGheedorah> "Come,"6 she says, nodding towards Noburo and co.1 "I should be present if my Lord requires me, being his Nikutai and all."6 She chuckles.1 "Perhaps Ikoma Megumi-sama could write a song of your exploits."6 She heads over to the other Lions.
  470. 06[01:54] * Imako follows her "That would be wonderful."
  471. [01:55] <Hiroshi> "Oh, don't get me mistaken. I never spent much time at all outside Dragon lands until the Topaz Championship, I just know from chatting and observing here that some people are travelling to or from Kyuden Bayushi a ways north from here."
  472. 06[01:56] * Sanji smiles and shakes it's head "It seems it's all I'm hearing lately"
  473. [01:56] <Hiroshi> "That and my comments earlier from the fact that we know the /Fan/ is heading north."
  474. [01:57] <Isamu> "Must be something to be so far from home under circumstances like this. And as far as that ship is concerned, it's going to take the intervention of the Fortunes themselves for us to find it now. I fear we may have lost our only lead with it."
  475. 01[01:57] <~KingGheedorah> "Found a stray, have you?"6 Akodo Noburo chuckles.1 "Milord, this is Ronin Imako-san. We met some weeks ago in Umoera Mura. She was just telling me of her travels, since."

  480. [01:59] <Hiroshi> "That was why I had wanted to get moving. It's likely stopped at coastal towns along the way, where we can ask for it. As for being far from home, well it's a change of scenery at least. The ride on the ship down here took some getting used to though."
  481. 06[02:02] * Imako takes a seat "Of course, Our journeys started after we lost our titles in the topaz championship and ended up in Umoera Mura, so.. I'll start there."

  483. [02:03] <Isamu> "I hear it snows a lot in the Dragon lands. Or rains. I forget which. The /Fan/ could be behind schedule if they ran into the same rough seas as we did. Perhaps even sank themselves, but I highly doubt they did."

  485. 06[02:06] * Imako shrugs, putting up the storytelling mein her uncle used to, imitating the motions she'd seen him do a thousand times. Telling of their adventures in Umera mura, the moonlight ambush in the market on their arrival, their meeting with the mysterious ronin, of their adventures with the magistrate and the burning of the geisha house -- conveniently leaving out the 'wanted by
  486. 06[02:06] * Imako the daimyo' bit, continuing to their trip into the butcher shop and their battle with the man on the docks, quickly ending before travelling into their shipwreck, the travel through the bandits cave to the village of the snakes, and their adventures in the temple, mitsuko's seduction, the pits of snakes, Isamu's impossible slash, the many encounters with death they all suffered, ending with the sunrise duel between sanji and the old man,

Akodo Noburo has sat up straight in his sedan chair, enraptured. He barks a fierce laugh and claps his armored gauntlets together.

  495. [02:11] <Imako> "It has been quite the adventure, m'lord."

  502. 06[02:14] * Sanji grins and begins to walk down the market paths, Humming softly, browsing the stalls for food.

  505. 06[02:17] * Hiroshi looks over at the Lions, the music having stopped but a new bustle having replaced it.
  506. 01[02:17] <~KingGheedorah> "Ryunosuke. I know him, or of him. He was Kakita Ayami-san's student, wasn't he? I wonder why she ran off. Probably because his smallclothes needed changing."
  507. 06[02:17] * Hiroshi nudges Isamu. "Isn't that... isn't that Imako?"
  508. [02:18] <Isamu> "Eh?" Isamu's attention shifts to the Lion warcamp at Hiroshi's nudge. "Why what- Oh Fortunes that is her... What is she doing there?"
  509. 01[02:19] <~KingGheedorah> "Wouldn't it make a fantastic song, wife?"
  510. 01[02:19] <~KingGheedorah> "Yes, yes, wonderful, my husband,"6 she mutters.
  511. [02:19] <Hiroshi> "I'm not sure, but she seems to be having better success."
  512. [02:20] <Hiroshi> "Eh, let's let her be. Let's maybe see if we can find some people heading north in the next week or so that might want some protection."
  513. 01[02:21] <~KingGheedorah> "Whatever mishap had you disgraced, your daimyo missed out. A shame. Who is he? When I am Clan Champion, perhaps I can speak to him."
  514. [02:22] <Isamu> "Tch..." Isamu responds defensively but offers no further protest. "Aye, aye. Kyuden Bayushi. Gotta say I'm not exactly thrilled to head into some place know for the Scorpions."
  515. [02:23] <Hiroshi> "Well, we don't have to actually spend time there, even covering most of the trip would probably do."
  516. [02:25] <Imako> "Kitsu Shinkurou-sama, However, I doubt he would move to anger the family of the current topaz champion to do so, If I am to be a sacrifical lamb so be it, as I have told Fumiyo-san, my titles did not make me a lion, I was born one, and that cannot be taken from me by politics."
  517. 01[02:27] <~KingGheedorah> "Spoken like a true Lion,"6 he nods.1 "A great wrong has been done to you by the scheming Crane. When I am Clan Champion I will see it undone."

Isamu shrugs. "I think the worst of that is actually considering trusting a Scorpion for good information with no strings."
  520. 06[02:28] * Imako nods her head "You honor me, m'lord."
  521. 01[02:28] <~KingGheedorah> "This province is thick with them,"6 he continues loudly.1 "Do you know why the Crane chose a bird with such a long snout? It is to hide their two faces."
  522. 06[02:28] * Sanji browses the market and gathers some supplies for a nice picnic. He then heads off to find a good spot
  523. 01[02:30] <~KingGheedorah> "A change is coming. There will come a day of reckoning, when the Crane can no longer hide behind the Empress' skirts. And on that day the sons and daughters of Akodo will take their rightful place as the Left and Right Hand of the Empire."
  524. [02:32] <Hiroshi> "Perhaps, it's a possibility, though a dangerous one. Isamu-san, you were a member of the Monkey clan before the tournament weren't you? Aren't we rather close by to that clan's lands?"
  525. 06[02:33] * Imako nods "Indeed m'lord!"
  526. [02:34] <Isamu> "Was a member. If I recall the map, yes we are a little southwest of the small parcel we called home. Why do you ask?"

  533. 06[02:38] * Isamu shakes his head. "I'd rather we did not return home. I don't think I would be quite welcome. Unlike most of you, I am completely to blame for my own shaming at the Topaz Championship. My sensei and family have likely already burned me from his memories.
  534. [02:39] <Hiroshi> "Very well, I'll ignore that thought then."
  535. 01[02:39] <~KingGheedorah> "You will bring these friends of yours to me,"6 he commands.1 "Perhaps we can find you something to do. In fact, I am almost certain of it. And,"6 he adds,1 "my wife will want to meet them for her song. Right, wife?"

  537. 06[02:39] * Sanji heads back to the tiny teahous outside the mans and orders some tea

  539. 06[02:42] * Imako nods "I will gather them" glancing to Fumiyo "and I'll assure they are aware of the situation this time."
  540. 06[02:42] * Sanji sets into his WONDERFUL PICNIC
  541. [02:43] <Isamu> "Regardless, we still have a week to find ourselves so merchants heading north. I bet by the end of the week we have a dozen of them eating out of our hands, begging us to guard them." Isamu chuckles, seeming to rebound from his previous statement.
  542. [02:44] <Hiroshi> "That may be a possibility. I'll ask around if there are rumors of banditry along the road leading north. It'll make it easier if there already are."
  543. 06[02:44] * Imako bowing to Noburo, turning to Megumi "In parting m'lady, I must mention that your voice is wonderful, reminds me of when my uncle would tell me stories as a child, I hope my poor imitation of the Ikoma art did not offend you in any way." turning back to Noburo "Then my lord, I will go find my companions, thank you once again."

  570. [03:00] <Imako> "Indeed, they tried to pull me back into the fold, but I refused to leave you all, so Noburo-sama has asked me to bring everyone before him tomorrow and he'll find us some work."
  571. [03:00] <Imako> "Megumi-sama is also apparently going to write a song about our travels, as it were."
  572. [03:02] <Imako> "That is, unless someone objects, in which case I need to go make a large number of appologies."
  573. [03:03] <Isamu> "Ah, just what we need. A song in our honor! A perfect way to drum up business, Hiroshi." Isamu grin fades a bit. "Though I am a little hesitant about meeting Lord Noburo."
  574. [03:04] <Hiroshi> "Hm, I don't think we've much to worry about. We should maybe see if we can get Sanji's hair back to a natural color first though."
  575. [03:05] <Imako> "That and get him used to being insulted. Lions insult cranes. a lot."
  576. [03:05] <Isamu> "Toss him down a well?" Isamu suggests.
  577. [03:05] <Imako> "Speaking of which, never compare the two unless you are bashing cranes in the process, it's a good way to get us killed."
  578. [03:06] <Isamu> "Noted. Any other words of wisdom with regard to proper Lion etiquette?"
  579. [03:07] <Imako> "Never disagree when they're tauting the clan, never insult an Ikoma's story.. normal things you'd expect."
  580. [03:09] <Isamu> "Normal, huh? Normal for a Great Clan then."

[03:09] <Imako> "and of course, when speaking to a lion remember to put bushido before anything, you can break any of the above rules if the code allows it, I refused his invitation to join his camp on bounds that I could not betray the loyalty of my comrades who put their bodies on the line to protect me."

  583. [03:13] <Isamu> "Well I guess I will have to brush up on my manners." Isamu says half-joking. "Don't worry I won't say anything that would get you into trouble."
  584. 01[03:14] <~KingGheedorah> 6The rest of the day's affairs are largely uninteresting, save for a gathering of clouds overhead. By sunset the clouds burst, and the Kami of Air and Water give voice to their quarrels above Shaisa, driving everyone inside.
  585. 01[03:15] <~KingGheedorah> 6The party gathers in the common room of the Emerald Dragon, drying off and enjoying tea and steamed rice with dumplings, courtesy of a very cheery young girl and her father.

  587. [03:19] <Imako> The camp, same place I spoke with them, probably the same time as well, just listen for Megumi-sama to start singing
  588. [03:20] <Ginko> "Well, I'm expecting a courier from the Mantis at some point this evening."
  589. 06[03:20] * Sanji is sitting by the window closest to the group, puffing happily on his pipe

  591. 06[03:21] * Isamu yawns lazily, his head in his hand as he listens to his peers.
  592. [03:21] <Ginko> "Information on the /Lady Doji's Fan/."
  593. [03:22] <Ginko> "I also hope to press whoever it is about information on a certain Daidoji Takashi."
  594. 06[03:22] * Imako raises an eyebrow "Got a crush?"
  595. [03:22] <Ginko> "Quite the opposite. I mean to ruin him, one way or another."
  596. 06[03:22] * Hiroshi perks up at this. "Oh? Hm, seems I'm mostly alone in having had an uneventful day."
  597. 06[03:23] * Isamu waves to Hiroshi. "Misery enjoys company they say."
  598. [03:23] <Sanji> "I had a very relaxing picnic myself" Sanji pipes up
  599. [03:24] <Hiroshi> "Well, and the 'adventure' this morning."

  601. [03:25] <Ginko> "I happened to meet him for the first time when he was courting his fiancee - the Lord Yoshimoto's daughter."

  603. [03:26] <Isamu> "He's a rough around the edges Daidoji, I'm hardly surprised. No offense Sanji."
  604. 06[03:27] * Sanji waves it off and continues staring out the window
  605. [03:27] <Imako> "Sanji is an exception among the cranes, I'm sure he's used to it by now"
  606. [03:28] <Imako> "But how less than flattering, I mean daidoji tend to treat political marriages like acquiring a horse, but.. they at least show courtesy, I suppose."
  607. [03:28] <Sanji> "Not a lot of surprise there now is there" Sanji mutters to himself
  608. 01[03:29] <~KingGheedorah> 6The door opens and a slender figure in a a low-brimmed hat with a high-collared shawl enters the common room from outside, laying a drenched umbrella next to the door.
  609. [03:30] <Ginko> "In any event, hopefully we'll find some information that will allow us to resume the chase when this whole storm blows over."

  625. 06[03:40] * Ginko blinks at the figure, before standing up and crossing over toward the figure. "Excuse me?"
  626. 01[03:40] <~KingGheedorah> 6The figure approaches hesitantly, addressing Ginko.1 "B-Bayushi-san? Bayushi Gino-san?"
  627. 06[03:40] * Hiroshi watches intently, though remaining seated.

  629. [03:41] <Imako> "Probably should have used a different, name.. consiering, Ginko."
  630. 06[03:42] * Ginko makes a rude gesture at Imako behind her back, not taking her eyes off the figure.
  631. 06[03:42] * Imako holds out her hand to the figure "Perhaps you should come over here and take a seat, your trembling and that's going to draw the wrong kind of attention."
  632. 01[03:42] <~KingGheedorah> 6The voice is hesitant and very feminine. Which makes sense when the figure removes her hat, revealing a very pale waif of a young woman, fifteen at most, with dark hair tied up underneath the hat and very wide, expressive eyes. She bites her lower lip.1 "I, um. C-could we talk somewhere?"
  633. [03:43] <Ginko> "Yorimoto-san." She rocks back a bit. "What brings you here?"
  634. [03:44] <Ginko> "Yorimoto-san. Of course we can talk." She glances at the others, and then gestures for her to go upstairs. "I'll be up in a moment."
  635. 01[03:45] <~KingGheedorah> "P-please don't, don't use that n-name,"6 she stammers.1 "I snuck away. Father will be furious if he finds out."
  636. [03:45] <Ginko> "Ah. My apologies."
  637. 01[03:45] <~KingGheedorah> "So will..."6 She seems to realize she is in the common room of a tea house at this point, even if it is empty save for the six of you, and jams her hat back on.
  638. 06[03:46] * Ginko tries to hide her amusement. "Just wait for me at the top of the stairs and I'll be along presently.

  644. 06[03:47] * Isamu watches the girl scamper off, before casting his gaze to Ginko. "That is certainly not your courier. Did you happen to provoke anyone while at the manse?"
  645. [03:47] <Imako> "Thought she was hurt at first with the way she was shaking."
  646. [03:47] <Ginko> "I didn't do anything. That, my friends, is the daughter of the Lord Yoshimoto."
  647. [03:48] <Imako> "Figured as much from the name."
  648. [03:48] <Ginko> "In any case, I have business to attend to. If the courier comes, take the message. It'll do you about as much good as it does me."
  649. [03:49] <Hiroshi> "Okay then... this isn't something we should be worried about, is it?"
  650. [03:49] <Imako> "If she's hurt or something, call me. I've not called the kami today at all."
  651. 06[03:49] * Isamu cranes his neck trying to get another look, before returning his gaze back to the group. "Well whatever she has in mind, I don't think it bodes well that she would sneak out here to meet you, be wary."
  652. 06[03:49] * Ginko calls the serving girl for a pot of tea and two cups, and then takes the tray herself and makes her way over to the stairs. "It shouldn't be anything to be worried about...at least not as far as I know."
  653. [03:49] <Imako> "If she tries to.. well mitsuko you, call me, just louder."
  654. 06[03:50] * Ginko sticks her tongue out at Imako. "If I need anything, I'll call."
  655. 06[03:50] * Isamu can't help but snicker at the comment.
  656. 06[03:50] * Sanji grins and keeps smoking
  657. [03:50] <Imako> "keep that up and i'll just let you bleed for a while next time."
  658. [03:50] <Ginko> "Yeah, yeah."
  659. 06[03:50] * Ginko turns and heads upstairs.
  660. 01[03:50] <~KingGheedorah> 6Mika is standing at the top of the stairs holding her hat, still biting her lip. The young girl at the bar hands you the tray with the teapot and the cups.
  661. 06[03:51] * Imako returns to the table and sips her tea "Why do I get the feeling this just got a lot more complicated."
  662. 06[03:52] * Imako shrugs "Makes for a good addition to the story, I guess."
  663. [03:52] <Isamu> "Hmm, Daidoji Takakshi's bride to be. I would say that would be more than a feeling." Isamu nods.
  664. 06[03:52] * Ginko gestures to Mika to follow her, and heads to the room.
  665. [03:53] <Imako> "and to think you guys wanted to leave."
  666. [03:53] <Hiroshi> "Remind me not to get on your bad side, Imako. Between you and Jun I've got a mountain of kami-induced terror."

  671. 06[03:55] * Ginko opens the door for her. "Please, make yourself at home."
  672. 01[03:55] <~KingGheedorah> 6She takes a seat on the floor, removing her shawl and laying it next to her hat.
  673. 06[03:56] * Ginko sets the tray down between them, pouring them both tea and offering Mika a cup.

  685. 06[04:04] * Ginko blinks, rather surprised, before nodding thoughtfully. "I understand."
  686. 01[04:05] <~KingGheedorah> "I was so happy when Father found a match for me... and a Crane, the heir of the Governor of Ookami Toshi! And then, and then he came here, and he is just /ugly/ inside. He looks down his stupid crooked Crane nose at /everything/ and talks about how the Crane do everything so much better, and he makes me feel /stupid/."6 She seems on the verge of hysterics.

  688. 06[04:09] * Ginko crosses over, sitting next to her. "I will do what I did with your father's advisor. I will not promise results. But I will do what I can."

  690. 01[04:11] <~KingGheedorah> 6She bows low, head nearly brushing your knees.1 "Thankyouthankyouthankyou!"
  691. 06[04:12] * Ginko smiles, touching her shoulder to indicate she should raise herself. "Not at all."
  692. 01[04:13] <~KingGheedorah> 6She straightens, her eyes brimming with grateful tears.1 "I-I don't know how I could ever repay you for this, but I will find a way."
  693. 06[04:15] * Ginko bites her tongue on the obvious response, and smiles. "We'll see. I'm not hard to please. Now, I believe that you mentioned a show earlier. As it so happens, one of my friends is very big on that kind of thing. I'm awaiting a courier from your place, so I can't accompany you, but she might be able to."

  719. 01[04:34] <~KingGheedorah> 6The door to the common room opens. Four figures enter, wearing wide-brimmed hats covering their faces, and dark, nondescript clothing.
  720. [04:35] <Sanji> "These must be your messengers Ginko" Sanji says, finally removing his pipe
  721. [04:35] <Ginko> "Perhaps."
  722. 06[04:35] * Imako manuvers in front of the girl.. doing a poor job of hiding her, pushing her around the corner "Bad if you're caught, right?"
  723. 06[04:35] * Hiroshi slowly rises from his seat.
  724. 06[04:36] * Isamu eyes the strangers from his seat, his hand slowly extending out of his kimono.
  725. 01[04:36] <~KingGheedorah> 6Mika squeaks and jams her hat back on her head.
  726. 01[04:37] <~KingGheedorah> "I'm looking for Bayushi Ginko-san,"6 one of the men says to no-one in particular.1 "I was told she was staying here."
  727. 06[04:37] * Sanji calmly replaces his pipe and turns to face the newcomers
  728. [04:37] <Ginko> "That would be me." She calls out.
  729. 06[04:38] * Ginko rises, resting her elbow on the hilt of her sword as she approaches. "Are you from the house of Lord Yorimoto?"
  730. 01[04:38] <~KingGheedorah> 6He steps forward, producing a waterproof scroll case from his sleeve.1 "Message for you."
  731. 06[04:40] * Ginko nods, and reaches out for the scroll.
  732. 01[04:43] <~KingGheedorah> 6Though he tries to keep it out of your sight, you spot the knife in his other hand as he offers you the scroll case.
  733. 06[04:50] * Ginko draws her sword instinctively, the sword flashing out, but her stance leaves her just short.
  734. 01[04:50] <~KingGheedorah> 6The assassin, in turn, scores a glancing blow across Ginko's sword arm with his knife slash. His comrades produce similar knives.
  735. 01[04:51] <~KingGheedorah> 6Mika lets out a a gasp of terror and stumbles backwards a few steps.
  736. [04:51] <Sanji> "Ginko!"
  737. [04:52] <Isamu> "Tch... Even when it rains, trouble comes."
  738. 06[04:52] * Imako stands defensively in front of mika ".. Stay behind me, this could get bad."

  740. 06[04:56] * Sanji m already expecting the worst launches out of his chair before the rest have time to react and charges the assassin on Ginko. He whips his blade out and draws a line of blood across the attackers chest.
  741. 01[04:57] <~KingGheedorah> 6The assassin barely has time to blink before falling, stricken dead with a single slash.
  742. 06[05:01] * Hiroshi , seeing Ginko attacked, jumps over the table and delivers delivers a punch to one of the assassin's unsuspecting face as he lands.
  743. 06[05:01] * Ginko stalks between Sanji and Hiroshi toward the back rank, making a vertical cut against the third assailant.
  744. 01[05:02] <~KingGheedorah> 6The assassin's face is frozen in an expression of shock as Hiroshi's surprise leap-punch floors him, stunning him and dropping him like a sack of rocks. Ginko's simple verticle slash neatly bisects her opponent, spilling his blood onto the floor of the tea-house.

  747. 06[05:04] * Isamu stands up from seat and with swift flick, pulls his tanto from the interior of his kimono. With a quick aim he hurls the blade across the room at the remaining stranger.
  748. 06[05:04] * Imako strides over to Ginko, inspecting the wound "Just a nick, barely a flesh wound, don't need magic for this." taking bandages out of the folds of her clothes and wrapping the wound
  749. 01[05:04] <~KingGheedorah> 6The thrown blade takes the last assassin in the throat and he crumples with a gurgle.

  751. [05:05] <Ginko> "Hiroshi. You didn't kill yours, right?"

  753. 06[05:06] * Hiroshi draws his swords, standing over the unconcious assassin. "I'm not that strong, Ginko."

  755. 06[05:06] * Imako walks over to Mika "Sorry you had to see that.. should we get to the play before you have to witness this much longer?"
  756. [05:06] <Ginko> "Take Mika. All of you. Go to the play."
  757. [05:06] <Ginko> "Make sure she's safe and has a good time."
  758. [05:06] <Ginko> "I am going to spend some quality time with our friend here."
  759. [05:07] <Hiroshi> "I've got rope in my room, if you need it."
  760. [05:07] <Imako> "I would rather not know.. regardless, she's probably terrified having witnessed that so.." taking mika's hand "Let's get out of here."

  762. 06[05:08] * Sanji flicks the blood from his blade and slides it back in the sheathe
  763. [05:08] <Sanji> "Well that was boring. You alright Ginko?"
  764. [05:08] <Isamu> "Hmph... Well when it rains..." Isamu shrugs as he leaves the last part of the sentance unfinished. He retrieves his tanto from the assassin and retrieves his Daisho from the room.
