- Two years after Nyarlathotep's defeat, the worlds of Arcadia are at peace. Having succeeded in their goal to strike back against the Court of Azathoth that had manipulated their worlds, Gamemasters Fatman Jones and Anthony Bault are finally living their dream lives; Anthony retired as a Pokemon Trainer, and Fatman succeeding him as primary protector of Arcadia. The god Durandal, who led them to victory, now spends his time searching Arcadia for the universe's missing creator, and has made a shocking discovery about the history of Arcadia that changes everything.
- Out of the blue, Durandal asks Fatman and Anthony to search a far-off star system, the Algol Star System, at the edge of the galaxy. There Anthony and Fatman discover the remains of the oldest threat to Arcadia there has ever been: The Profound Darkness, who millenia ago fought and lost against the champions of The Great Light for the sake of Arcadia.
- As Anthony prepares to destroy the remains, he is betrayed by Fatman, who sends Heartless after him and absconds with the remains, intending to revive The Profound Darkness for some unknown reason. The Great Light sends a message to Anthony: Track him down and terminate all followers of The Profound Darkness, with extreme prejudice.
- Durandal sets to work researching the legendary fight between The Profound Darkness and The Great Light, but as Anthony takes up the mantle of Gamemaster and puts out the word to capture and terminate his most esteemed friend, new facts come to light that call into question the legendary battle between Light and Darkness, and just which side is ultimately in the right...
- Who writes history at the end of the endless battlefield determines the future of all things. As Fatman and Anthony echo the fated battle of their predecessors, Sir Erik of the Larson Clan and Celia, the Avatar of Trathalga of the Tesseran, their struggle will determine the shape of Arcadia to come. What do you do when you fight for justice? Do you follow the law, or follow your heart? Are Light and Darkness really black and white? What do you call the ones who write history: Librarians of truth, or revisionists of ideals? And what do you do when the ones who write history are the ones with divine power?
