  1. This is a KOR>JP>ENG translation of Flowering Heart S2; the JP subs appear to be EXTREMELY faithful to the KOR dialogue.

  5. Pastebin doesn't like it when you post links, so I have to use this workaround.

  15. [Credits]
  16.
  17. Thanks to Dotism for the KOR to JP translation, Chiyako92 for writing the Italian Wikipedia entry for Flowering Heart (Otherwise I'd have a hard time figuring out the Korean names), and /pc/'s [anon] and [Seranae], as I sto-uhh borrowed aspects of their typesettings; god's work anon(s).
  18.
  19. [Extras]
  20.
  21. After double and triple checking, I can assure you that the OP/ED lyrics are identical between seasons 1 and 2. This gives me carte blanche to steal the lyrics from the ENG dub wholesale! No need to reinvent the wheel.
  22.
  23. You may have noticed that ED2's audio cuts off abruptly; the raws I'm using are, from my understanding, taken directly from youtube, and feature the same issue. Luckily the original broadcast version doesn't have this issue and may be found on Nico Nico; I would post a link but apparently pastebin takes umbrage with me providing it.
  24.
  25. [Episode 1]
  26.
  27. I borrowed the translations for transformation sequences from the English dub. The JP subs are decidedly excessive with the use of adjectives:
  28. Ari: (宝石のように透明な愛の心よ/A clear heart of love like a jewel).
  29. Suha:(宝石のように玲瓏な輝く知恵よ/Wisdom that is shining and brilliant like a jewel).
  30. Min: (宝石のように硬い美しい勇気よ/Courage that is tough and beautiful like a jewel).
  31. It's just a little bit over the top and the simplified English translation is much easier on the eyes.
  32.
  33. 4:08 I translated 怪しい人(suspicious person) as Peeping Tom, as I felt like it fit the context of the episode, but in retrospect I'm wondering if I was being a little too liberal with my choice of words.
  34.
  35. 4:34 In hindsight, I wish I didn't translate this as "brother"; it's not a big deal, because anyone familiar with Japanese mannerisms will recognize the Korean equivalency, but it's awkward in English, especially when they aren't related. This is something I will likely change in a future V2, along with any other mistakes/changes I want to make after the inevitable repeat viewings. Going forward, any utterance of 「오빠/older brother」or 「언니/older sister」is either rewritten as that character's name, or something contextually appropriate.
  36.
  37. [Episode 2]
  38.
  39. 7:01 The official translation is not consistent about whether her name is supposed to be Arisong or Ari Song, but given how they never flipped her name (e.g., Jin Ari becomes Ari Jin), and the fact that the other girls have their surnames left intact during their transformations (e.g., Woo Suha becomes Woo Suhan), I have to assume it's supposed to be one whole name; writing it as Song Ari would look super weird anyways.
  40.
  41. 7:44 (漆黒のように濃い闇の魔法で/With a deep Black Magic that is like jet black).
  42. This is fine in Japanese, but in English it makes my eyes roll to the back of my head. Rewritten to be less terrible.
  43.
  44. 7:37 Dojin Choi's line isn't translated in the JP subs. Trump is talking over him and it's a throwaway line anyways, but I figured I'd bring it up.
  45.
  46. 8:31 The JP subs didn't translate this, so I was originally going to ignore it too. On a whim, I decided to rewatch the Shining Star AMV in Korean; turns out this line is ripped straight from Ari's section of the rap; that's really fucking cute. Once again, I unapologetically steal the lyrics from the ENG dub.
  47.
  48. [Episode 3]
  49.
  50. 3:50 Shuel has a new incantation for season 2; once again, a hair too many adjectives.
  51. Shuel: (宝石のように高貴な美しさの神秘よ/Mystique that is classy and beautiful like a jewel).
  52. I can't turn to the ENG dub for this one, but I still want to match the format, so I'm simplifying it and going with "Mystique that is beautiful like a jewel". I was originally going to erase "beautiful" instead of "classy", but the purification scene at the end of episode 3, which includes the qualities of all four girls, uses beauty to signify Shuel specifically, so her incantation here has to match that as well.
  53.
  54. 8:31 (光は闇を照らすが、闇は決してそれに気づけません) I had an extremely hard time with the second half of this line, the details of which are more appropriate for a blog than a TL note. I've understood 95% of this show using the JP subs with no problems, but fuck this line. I believe I have captured the core meaning, in any case.
  55.
  56. [Episode 4]
  57.
  58. 1:24 存在感ゼロのドンウと同じグループって "To think zero presence Dong Woo is in the same group as you" would be a more literal translation, but it doesn't flow well.
  59.
  60. 2:03 I don't know exactly what the original pun is, but the JP subs, which don't appear to meaningfully localize it, says Min hears (球遊び/ball sports). There is, THANKFULLY, a dinosaur themed baseball team in Korea called the NC Dinos. Min is shown to be a big fan of baseball in later episodes, so this works really well.
  61.
  62. [Episode 5]
  63.
  64. 2:51 一生懸命作った塔が崩れる時が絶望が大きいと思わないか?"When you build a tower with all your might, only for it to collapse, the despair is that much greater, wouldn't you agree?" This line is fucking gigantic, I was not about to leave this metaphor intact, so I've simplified it for ease of ingestion.
  65.
  66. [Episode 6]
  67.
  68. 0:20 The original pun, 칼국수학, combines 칼국수 (AKA Knife Noodles), and 수학 (math).
  69.
  70. 0:21 I don't actually know what Jiho is saying out loud; the JP subs don't include it and KOR Auto-CC doesn't give me anything decipherable. A likely candidate for repair in a v2 when and if I learn enough Korean to do so.
  71.
  72. 0:34 The JP subs insist her name is (シンエリ/Shin Eri), so I double checked with Youtube's Auto-CC's, which give me (신애리/Shin Aeri), so I'll go with that.
  73.
  74. 1:00 I'm not 100% sure about the name; the JP subs call this person (ミラノ/Mirano), the KOR auto CC's give me names that don't strike me as Korean, so they could very well be Italian or something.
  75.
  76. 6:31 Small line not included in the JP subs, but the word for tea is identical in both languages, so I figured what the hell. Edit 2/1/22: Watching an episode of Hello Jadoo, apparently cha~ is a typical thing to say when serving someone food/beverages, so he's not actually mentioning the tea, despite it being pronounced the same exact way. Extremely embarrassing mistake on my part BUT, it still sort of works. If I ever make a V2, I would probably change it to "here you are".
  77.
  78. 8:18 I won't pretend to know what the original pun is, but I believe I've captured the gist of the original meaning while creating a sufficiently lame pun of my own.
  79.
  80. [Episode 7]
  81.
  82. 3:21 I don't know if the fat mentor is actually saying something or just grunting in shock; the JP subs don't include it and I won't even try to make an educated guess.
  83.
  84. 3:28 The traditional dress in question is called a chima jeogori and she specifically refers to the sweat pants as "old lady pants".
  85.
  86. 3:48 Short for coordination diary; possibly obvious to you, but I had to look it up, so I'm posting it here.
  87.
  88. [Episode 8]
  89.
  90. 1:09 そして、このタキシードはすべての花が咲き始める "Finally, this tuxedo is every flower beginning to bloom" would be a hyper literal translation, so I'm obviously not going with that.[Episode 9]
  91.
  92. I had to rewrite a lot of Jiho and Suha's explanations during this episode; my original translations, while probably more accurate, were way too wordy.
  93.
  94. 3:28 ああ...言うんじゃなかったな a more literal translation would be "you shouldn't have said that".
  95.
  96. [Episode 9]
  97.
  98. シュエル、コンビニをよろしく!I'm going to give the FH wiki huge credit come episode 11, but I disagree with their translation of the title card. I used the JP subs to translate it initially, but after checking the original Korean (부탁하다 means to ask a favor) as well as the context of the episode, I think it's reasonable to say she's helping the store, not just going to it.
  99.
  100. 1:13 When the episode aired, ₩950 = $0.85.
  101.
  102. 2:09 それは、君がかわいそ...あああ、じゃなくて、可愛いから! Small pun; 可愛そう(pitiful) and 可愛い(cute). I'm still a beginner at Korean, but I'm not actually hearing a pun, so I have to assume this is just a very convenient translation in JP; not about to make my own pun here.
  103.
  104. 3:57 The ramen soup in question is called Jajangmyeon, which is the Korean version of a Chinese soup called zhajiangmian.
  105.
  106. 4:18 She actually refers to it as a mozzarella futon.
  107.
  108. 4:38 The JP subs do not attempt to include it, but I'm 90% sure this is supposed to be a dugong pun. Now I KNOW that seals and dugongs are not related, but Seel evolves into Dewgong, so that's good enough for me.
  109.
  110.
  111. [Episode 10]
  112.
  113. 0:11 She actually only mentions that she'll be doing SOMETHING with her siblings, not necessarily that she'll be taking them anywhere; she gets cut off mid sentence, so I had to fabricate some context to make it flow in English properly.
  114.
  115. 2:38 野球選手をやめたのに... There's an inflection at the end of the sentence that implies a question (he quit being a player, so why is he here?). My phrasing is a little awkward, but I wanted to include that nuance.
  116.
  117. 0:33 金曜日か週末には、ああやっておやつを一杯買ってお帰りになってるのよ When I originally translated this, I confused 一杯(full of) with it's alternative meaning (one drink). I almost never see 一杯, as it's usually written in kana as いっぱい. On top of that, there is a scene later with a single drink of notable importance, which solidified my belief that I was right. Luckily I double and triple check any line that feels awkward, and this one absolutely did. As an aside, Raon says "she does this on fridays and the weekends" I shortened to weekends.
  118.
  119. 4:00 わあ!紅参ドリンクだ!I'm glad I started actively studying Korean; I recognize both characters separately, but my normal dictionary doesn't provide a useful answer to 紅参, thankfully 홍삼 is clearly visible on the bottle.
  120.
  121. Only some of the names/partial names of the players are available on the KOR wikipedia entry for FH. I refer to that when I can, but if it's not available, I have to rely on the JP subs, which don't spell Korean names super accurately, and my own ears.
  122.
  123. 7:10 どうせ勝てないだろうし、無理せずに適当にやりな This is actually one of the last lines I translated between episodes 1~18. I got confused by the second half of the line originally so I decided to leave it for later. Not as bad that one line in episode 3, but the details surrounding the TL would be more suitable to a blog post.
  124.
  125. 8:41 This line is untranslated in the JP subs; I was originally going to guess-sub it as "this way!" Before doing so, I threw a few generic urgent sounding lines into google translate and found the right word by accident (서둘러/hurry).
  126.
  127. [Episode 11]
  128.
  129. 奇跡を呼ぶ応援 When I originally translated the title card, I somehow managed to misread (奇跡/miracle) as (希望/hope) AND I confused (呼ぶ/to call forth) with (呼ばれる/to be called something). I must have been asleep at the wheel or something. It didn't sit well with me at the time, so I checked the FH Wiki TL; after getting my ego out of the way, I realized "oh shit I'm wrong" and fixed it. I know I put you down two episodes ago, but thank you FH wiki.
  130.
  131. 6:56 私の辞典に勝てなった試合はあっても "Even though 'losing a game' exists in my vocabulary..." would be a more accurate translation, but it's awkward.
  132.
  133. [Episode 12]
  134.
  135. Apparently I didn't have anything to say about 12, *shrug*.
  136.
  137. [Episode 13]
  138.
  139. 1:00 みんな、到着するまで楽しく遊ぼう!"Everyone, until we arrive, let's play some fun games!" would be a literal translation, but the line has the connotation of EXCLUSIVELY playing fun games, which is the setup for the punchline in the very next scene, I rewrote it a little to better fit the context.
  140.
  141. Trump spends a lot of this episode responding with grunts. This is pretty normal in Japanese and presumably Korean, but I had to make up a lot of his dialogue this episode for obvious reasons.
  142.
  143. [Episode 14]
  144.
  145. 3:40 全員広場に集合!広場 can mean plaza/public square/clearing/etc. Clearing sounds the most natural, so I'm going with that.
  146.
  147. 5:10 Despite being a flashback to a line from the previous episode it's actually worded slightly differently (Shuel even uses a different tone). I translated it the same way, because it has the same base meaning and it's obviously intended as a flashback.
  148.
  149. 皇南パン:キョンジュの名物お菓子 This is the ONLY TL note in the JP subs, so I'm including it here for the sake of it: "Hwangnam Bread: a famous confection in Gyeongju".
  150.
  151. [Episode 15]
  152.
  153. When Flowering Heart decides to be educational, it goes HARD. This episode had me researching ancient Korean architecture to make sure the subs were accurate, enough said.
  154.
  155. 1:40 ここの裏側が入り口みたいです "This lining appears to be an entrance" would be more literal, but it's too many words per line, so I rewrote it a little.
  156.
  157. 6:24 I translated this line as if Othello was directly quoting Trump; in reality he is paraphrasing Trump's original intent, but I felt my choice made the speech flow better in English.
  158.
  159. 10:49 Once again, a flashback that's rewrites what was actually said, I made the same decision as last time and left it the same.
  160.
  161. [Episode 16]
  162.
  163. 0:15 The JP subs don't include it, so this is a guess, I'm sorry.
  164.
  165. 2:19 わあ、凄いね!学校体表として科学キャンプに行くの 「体表/Taihyou/Body Surface」 appears to be a typo, it should be 「代表/Daihyou/Representative」.
  166.
  167. 3:12 "NG!", taken from "No good" in English, is the Korean equivalent of yelling "cut!", albeit has the obvious nuance of being a bad take.
  168.
  169. 4:42 君たちも一緒に行けるように私がお願いしたよ! A more literal translation would be "In order for you to also go with me, I'm asking you!"; doesn't flow well, slightly rewritten.
  170.
  171. Throughout this arc, the pilots and control team alike are referred to as 研究員, or 'researcher'. I'm translating it as either scientist or captain based on the context. "Researcher Hanul" and "Researcher Arisong" just don't feel right.
  172.
  173. [Episode 17]
  174.
  175. 3:02 これが。。。宇宙。。。? is what the line would look like if the JP subber included it. Very simple line, particularly because the word for space is borrowed from Chinese and they sound nearly identical in both languages.
  176.
  177. [Episode 18]
  178.
  179. 0:36 そんなにやられて、今もトランプが好きってお前正気か?I originally translated this to "You still like Trump even after he did something like that? Are you crazy?" thinking やられて was a conjugated form of やる/to do, but after a translation check, I realized there's also やられる/to hurt or deceive. I wasn't entirely sure which definition to go with, but 'hurt' kind of covers everything, so I'll go with that.
  180.
  181. 7:22 When the episode aired in October '17 ₩4,000 = $3.56.
  182.
  183. 7:58 Supposedly they are called Alice bands; maybe I live under a rock, but I have never once in my life heard them called that, so 'headband' it is.
  184.
  185. 9:29 そうだったんだ…チェスのお母さんも病気だったんだね "So that's what happened...Chess' mom was sick too huh?" would be the literal translation.
  186.
