  1. “I still can't believe you sold our stage production rights.” Damien flipped over the first few pages of the screenplay in his hands.
  2. “I can't believe they're making it a musical.” Louise was perusing the letter from the writing team.
  3. “Believe it. I did it. They are. It's happening.” Insingem said from her place in the exorbitantly expensive loveseat she insisted Voice share with her.
  4. “Did they-” Euclid inspected the first few pages with scrutiny, then flipped through the script, “Am I in this? Is this Will me?”
  5. “I think maybe it's both of you?” Voice furrowed his brow, “Like you're a composite character or something.”
  6. “Well that's pretty disrespectful for a start.” Louise laid back into Cav's lap as she read.
  7. “They cut out the whole Christmas thing.” Phase commented with disappointment.
  8. “I specifically told them to.”
  9. “Wait,” Phase flipped from page to page, “Do I even get a song?”
  10. Will looked through the script. “You are in songs.”
  11. “Yeah but do I get one of my own?”
  12. The sound of pages being riffled through shuffled through the room for a while before quietening back down.
  13. “Voice gets a song! Why don't I get a song?”
  14. “My character has a lot of things to express.” Voice retorted.
  15. “Isn't your song just a long string of condescending insults and explanations of stuff?” Damien asked.
  16. “Still.” Voice shrank into the crook of Insingem's embrace. “Also patter songs are cool.”
  17. The group fell to reading the script carefully and slowly, from the opening song about heroism and belonging through the team's crisis of faith.
  18. “I feel like there's a lot of focus on your character, Insingem.” Phase commented.
  19. “It's not my fault I'm the natural main character of the group.”
  20. “And Voice-”
  21. “Love interest.”
  22. “I think- how do I put this? My character is too black.” Cav frowned.
  23. “That's racist, dude.” Voice grinned like a bastard. Damien glared askance.
  24. “I mean, our love song is like 40% talking about overcoming racial boundaries.” He searched through the script, “And I think somewhere I say 'Aw hell naw'.”
  25. “And there's the running joke about you being a black white knight.” Louise added.
  26. “That one's pretty true to life to be honest.”
  27. “How come my character is such a loser, anyway?” Louise asked indignantly, “All I do is fawn over Damien and act as Voice's secretary.”
  28. There was a brief, uncomfortable silence until Insingem broke it with, “Just like in real life.”
  29. “So do Magpie and his kids know they're in this?” Phase asked.
  30. “Oh yeah. They were very receptive to the idea.”
  31. “Is anyone else reading some major sexual tension between Phase's character and Dodger's by the way?” Will grinned.
  32. “What?” Phase peered closer at the script.
  33. “Yeah, check out all the stage directions about how he looks at you and lingers around you.”
  34. “Ew. Gross.” Phase boggled, “They get a song and I don't?!”
  35. “They share it. We share a bunch of songs.” Insingem justified.
  36. “This bites.”
  37. Id closed the script and put it down on the coffee table, “How come I barely have any lines?”
