  1. DISCLAIMER:
  2.
  3. I do not know what the ports of Doom on Dreamcast are like, nor am I a developer. What you're about to read are what would be, in my eyes, a good desirable port of DOOM for the SEGA Dreamcast. I do not know how viable any of this would be in reality, but I think it would be cool to see some of these ideas brought to life, someday.
  4.
  5. DOOM on Dreamcast:
  6.
  7. Goal:
  8.
  9. Bring a version to the console, based off of Crispy Doom, with support for 4:3 and 16:9 visuals, 60fps (optional), streamed music recordings from the SC-55 using the streamed ADX format for high quality and looping support, high quality sfx based off the DOOM Sound Bulb pack, an easy to understand control scheme, and quality of life features from the official Unity versions. Online support may also be worth looking into, but isn't a priority.
  10.
  11. Visuals:
  12.
  13. This version of DOOM would include support for both 4:3, and 16:9 widescreen visuals, much like Rayman 2 on the Dreamcast. Rendering resolution will be high, just like Crispy Doom, with the game FPS targeting 60fps, at all times. Any visual options from Crispy Doom, such as optional colored blood and such, would also be available as options.
  14.
  15. Sound:
  16.
  17. The soundtrack would utilize the .adx format, used in many big games like Sonic Adventure. This format allows for high quality streamed audio, at CD quality, with support for loop points, so there will be no fading out, before the track clunkily goes back to start, breaking immersion. Music will be based off high quality recordings of the SC-55 soundtrack, of which the music was originally designed for. If there is extra Disc space available, other soundtracks like the OPL3 soundtrack could be added. For the sound effects, using the best quality sources for the sounds would be most ideal, with something like DOOM Sound Bulb being the source of the sounds, providing an edge over the PC original. The Dreamcast's sound chip could also be used to apply effects to the sound effects, such as reverb.
  18.
  19. Controls:
  20.
  21. Controls are this:
  22.
  23. Left and Right triggers: Turning Left and Right
  24.
  25. Analog Stick: Strafing, with variable speeds, and full 360 degree support
  26.
  27. D-Pad: Strafing always at full walking speed
  28.
  29. Start Button: Brings up the menus
  30.
  31. A: Shoot Gun
  32.
  33. X: Run Button
  34.
  35. B: Interact
  36.
  37. Y: Weapon Wheel (a la the official Unity version. Slows down the game as you choose a weapon, or stop the game, a la Ratchet and Clank 3)
  38.
  39. Features:
  40.
  41. Full support for The Ultimate DOOM, and DOOM II: Hell on Earth, the custom options of Crispy Doom, saving games and replays to the VMU, online co-op/death match.
