  1. 24-Hour Armor: Justified. When he sleeps in it at the manor, it’s because he’s expecting to be ambushed.
  2. Apologizes A Lot: To the point of Verbal Tic.
  3. Bad Dreams/Nightmare Sequence: The very start of his Session Zero.
  4. Badly Battered Babysitter: As Renn’s hired bodyguard, culminating when the carriage falls on top of him.
  5. Bathroom Break-Out: Played with. Renn uses the inn’s bathroom to shapeshift unseen, then uses her alter ego to get disastrously drunk in the bar, never actually leaving the building. When Veggrek goes looking for her, he assumes she’s escaped/been kidnapped through the bathroom window.
  6. Blade On A Stick: Veggrek’s spear. More specifically, it’s an English bill hook.
  7. Blind Obedience: When explaining his oath to Renn, Veggrek mentions his belief that paladins of the past knew what they were doing. Partially justified: He’s aware of his own lack of wisdom and needs someone to tell him what to do.
  8. Boomerang Bigot: Downplayed. Thinks of himself as distinct from other goblins due to his amnesia, so he’s not above getting a few snipes in at Dort. When Dort surprises him, Veggrek tends to give him the benefit of the doubt.
  9. The Champion: Dyana’s, later Renn’s.
  10. Condescending Compassion: With Dort.
  11. Determinator: Deeply devoted to following his oath, and sworn to keep Renn safe.
  12. Dramatic Unmask:
  13. Dumb, but Diligent:
  14. Exact Words: Constantly, owing to his vow of honesty. Tells Dort he hasn’t seen any goblins (having not seen himself that day) and explains his mask to Renn as concealing a face that’s been deformed since birth.
  15. Failed a Spot Check: With a penalty to perception and abysmal wisdom, Veggrek tends to struggle when looking for clues— first on the train, then at the inn, when he walks right past Renn(‘s alter ego) repeatedly.
  16. Failure Knight: As Renn’s bodyguard, after Dyana’s disappearance (and, to a lesser extent, Mia’s death)
  17. Fantastic Racism: When Venn discovers he’s a goblin, things get ugly.
  18. The Fettered: Part and parcel for paladins.
  19. Heroic Vow: The Oath of Devotion.
  20. Honor Before Reason: Veggrek does not break his oath or his commitment to Renn. To avoid alerting the innkeeper (and Dort) that he’s lost track of Renn, he breaks into her room via smashing a window under the pretense of ‘checking its structural integrity.’
  21. I Gave My Word: Especially as it concerns Renn’s protection. As part of his oath, Veggrek is obligated to keep promises.
  22. I Will Find You: Veggrek’s overarching motivation is to reunite with Dyana.
  23. Knight in Shining Armor:
  24. Leeroy Jenkins: In keeping with the tenet of Courage, Veggrek fears hesitating too long and tends to act on instinct, especially after Mia’s death. He throws himself at the masked assassin, releases an 800-gold bird minutes after Renn purchases it, and breaks the inn’s window.
  25. My Greatest Failure/I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Veggrek blames himself for letting the masked assassin go, as they would go on to carry out Mia’s assassination. He sees it as having failed the tenet of Courage by hesitating in spite of his instincts, and has resolved not to let it happen again, leading to his impulsive tendencies.
  26. My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Consciously trying to elevate himself above ‘savage’ goblins.
  27. Mysterious Past: Par for the course as an amnesiac, but his history with Dyana is murky too.
  28. The Paladin: Natch.
  29. Rousseau Was Right: Invoked when he tries to explain his situation to Renn.
  30. Stop Being Stereotypical: Played with in his interactions with Dort— Veggrek generally doesn’t expect much from him. After Renn realizes Veggrek is a goblin too, there’s a bit more of this going on as Veggrek tries to convince her that goblins aren’t inherently evil in spite of Dort’s conduct.
  31. Stupid Good: Unswervingly sworn to his oath of chivalry. Has an intelligence score of 6.
  32. Square Race, Round Class: A goblin paladin.
  33. The Squire:
  34. Walk the Earth: As (squire to) a knight-errant.
  35. Will Not Tell A Lie: His oath has other tenets, but Honesty is the one he conflicts with Renn over.
