  1. Due to the way Vonnegurt wrote Harrison Bergeron I believe that he would be critical of standardized testing for students beginning from third grade all the way to a senior in high school. When standardized tests are created they try to make the tests fair and equal for students across the state. Every student learns at a different pace, and may not be able to take the test because itโ€™s too difficult while other students that are in more advanced classes may find it to be too easy. Either way, it limits the development and growth of an individual in the education system. Vonnegurt wrote intelligence was inhibited for the sake of making everyone equal. These individuals were given loud noises to distract from thinking about things to hard. There is no alternative for these intelligent individuals, they are forced to comply with their government and punished by the law if they exhibit any form of deviation from the norm. The way Vonnegurt portrays his feeling about making a society fair and equal in Harrison Bergeron leads me to believe that even though it seems to be for the benefit of the students, he would be critical of standardized testing. Standardized tests inhibit those with special needs such as superior intelligence as well as those with learning disabilities. For those with learning disabilities these state wide tests can severely decrease the chances of moving on to the next grade; for those with superior intelligence tests wonโ€™t be as challenging and therefore causes a lack of interest in trying their best.
