In a truck-stop diner, a waitress has her hand cut by an electric knife that seems to have a mind of its own. From that point on, every manner of machine seems to come alive, with an evil and violent personality.
When Earth passes through the tail of Rea-M rogue comet, the machines come to life and start to kill mankind. A group of survivors is under siege from fierce trucks at the Dixie Boy truck stop gas station and they have to fight to survive.
I just watched this movie last night. i figure that it be at least half decent. Because the great horror writer Stephen King directed it.  Boy i was wrong, dead wrong. It just takes to long to get to a point to this movie and when it does it feels like you just been robbed 1 1/2 hours of your time. I rather take a long nap then watch this flick.
Totally stupid venture for first and currently only-time director Stephen King (yes, the novelist) as he makes a film based on his equally unappealing short story "Trucks". "Maximum Overdrive", what can I say? The film is just a pure mess as machines come to life on their own and try to kill a group of people in a small community. Pat Hingle and Emilio Estevez are the two most notable names from the under-achieving cast. Pure chaotic junk. Another in the seemingly endless list of cheap 1980s horror flicks. Turkey (0 stars out of 5).
Maximum Overdrive is the classic botch. Good idea, nice effects, bad pacing, porous script, no punch...Too bad. As usual, the premise has promise. [26 July 1986, p.C1]
While no copies have popped up anywhere, there is supposedly an uncut VHS tape that was released when the film came to VHS. This alleged tape not only has the infamous exploding head steamroller scene, but also an additional 4 minutes of footage.  a5c7b9f00b
