  1. We rested and stocked up on supplies during our stay in Giya. To be honest, I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible before one of the townsfolk asked me to take care of werewolves or mudcrabs, or put two and two together regarding their missing cattle.
  2. The two of us head east, to the nearby city of Lezard. It's a place known for trading various goods. Most notably its weapons and armor, which are sought after across this absurd shaped continent for their quality. Hours go by as we walk down a local road, while Sarah slowly eats through our food rations...
  3. "So, what are we heading to Lezard for? I thought you avoided big cities and such?" Sarah asks me a meaningful question as she stuffs her face full of Jerky from one of our food bags. I wish she wouldn't eat through everything so quickly...
  4. I yank the bag of food away from her, "Despite the fact that there's a much higher probability that people will recognize me, cities are the place to go for information and money." My companion looks at me while smiling, "Do we really need information or money? I kind of like just wandering around aimlessly."
  5. I extend my arm and pat her on the head through her hooded cloak as I walk along, "Yes, yes we do. We can't wander around on the southern part of this continent forever. We'll need info regarding the northern part, as well as whether or not we'd need to travel by sea or crossing the Great Desert to reach it." I'd prefer traveling by sea, since I don't want to deal with that desert...
  6. Sarah looks away while blushing mildly, "Fine."
  7.
  8. Eventually the two of us reach a certain point in the road. "According to the map, it would be quicker to reach Lezard by walking through the plains than by following the road, due to it deciding to take a massive detour." I inform Sarah while holding the crummy map. She scratches her head before turning to me with a cocked eye, "Are you sure we should cut across? There might be something you can't handle lurking out there."
  9. "I highly doubt it. All the monsters in this part of the country are generally weak and slow." I shrug and crack a boastful smile, "Besides, what's the worst that could happen?" The Dragoness smirks while lightly chuckling, "I guess you're right."
  10. As if on cue, a loud and girly scream can be heard from nearby, "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
  11. Sarah quickly glares at me and shakes her head, before the two of us sprint over towards the source of the scream.
  12.
  13. We come across a small girl with white hair, who looks no older than 15, running in circles while being chased by a tall man.
  14. "Should we help her? My dragon companion asks with a somewhat worried look. Normally I'd say no, and lumber off to find a spot to nap in. But I don't take kindly to young women being harassed. I grab a nearby rock with my left arm and throw it at the man. It connects with his gnads with surprising accuracy, and causes him to fall to the ground and curl up in a ball. The young girl continues running in circles, thinking that she's still being chased.
  15. That's kind of adorable...
  16. The two of us walk up to the girl and try to calm her down. It doesn't work, as if she's ignoring us. Sarah then grabs her by the shirt and holds her in place. The girl begins to freak out and flail around wildly, "P-PLEASE LEAVE M-ME ALONE!"
  17. I kneel down in front of her and put on a warm smile, "It's okay, we took care of the man bothering you." Upon seeing my face, and hearing my words, the kid calms down and begins to look around. "Y-you really dealt with him?" She asks in a worried tone while shaking in place. Sarah grabs her attention and points to where the man who was chasing her is. He's stilled curled up in pain.
  18. "You really did it! Thanks you!" The girl is practically jumping with joy as she shakes our hands. She's pretty hyperactive... "Look there's no need to thank us, alright?" I try to break free from her handshake, but she's stuck to my hand like glue. "But I have to! You helped me out of that sticky situation! So what are your names? What do you do?!" She continues to to practically bounce in place as she asks us questions.
  19. Sarah, annoyed by her constant movement, grabs the girl by the shoulder and forces her to sit still as I answer her question, "Look, our names don't really matter. We're just wanderers traveling about."
  20. A gleam appears in her eyes upon hearing me say 'wanderers', "R-really? Can I come with you?! Please?!"
  21. I cup my chin and begin to think it over, "I don't know, you don't look very reliable..."
  22. "Please! I'm a traveling merchant! I can help you out with buying and selling things!" The girl shouts while puffing her chest out. At the exact same time, a pair of fluffy tails ears almost literally "pop" into existence on her. Sarah and I stare at the girl, causing her to give us a confused look, "What are you staring at?" She begins to look all around her, before noticing her tails.
  23. Falling to her knees, she begins tearing up, "Oh no, my spell wore off... Now you'll never let me travel with you..."
  24. Sarah bends over and meets eye to eye with the girl, "What makes you think we won't let you travel with us?"
  25. "B-because everyone I've met in this country has been overly hateful towards monsters..." She speaks while sniffling every other word.
  26. "In case you're too blind to notice, Sarah herself isn't exactly human. Besides, not only do I not care about you being a...uh..." I try to remember what her race is called, but I keep drawing a blank.
  27. "Kitsune."
  28. "Right. Anyway, I really don't care about that, you had me at 'I'm a traveling merchant'." She looks at me with stars in her eyes and an enormous smile, "Really? You don't care if I'm a monster?"
  29. I narrow my eyes at her, "Are you even listening?" Apparently not, because she latches onto my neck and begins hugging me. I try to shake her off, but it does no good. Instead of helping, Sarah just watches while gnawing on her finger with enough force to draw blood. After about half an hour, she finally lets go of me.
  30. "Why would you want to travel with us, anyway?" I ask the girl while rubbing my neck. "Well, you're travelers. You guys usually end up stumbling onto treasure and magical artifacts at some point! I wanted to make friends AND money at the same time." She replies to me with a smile as she swishes her tails about. Well it makes sense. I guess...
  31. "So what exactly do you even have, ware-wise?" Sarah speaks up after lowering her hood. The girl gazes upon Sarah's face and horns for a few minutes, before responding, "Follow me, I'll show you!"
  32. She leads us to a large bag that was hidden behind a nearby rock. Inside are numerous trinkets and such. Sarah grabs the bag, and begins thoroughly examining its contents. The fox girl looks up to me and rises her hand, "So, what are your names?" Guess it can't be helped. I shrug in a lazy manner, "Name's Glen, and the girl going through your bag is Sarah. You are?"
  33. With incomprehensible speeds, she responds while posing in a cute manner, "My name's Ami! My full name is Ami Ami!"
  34. ...Her first name is the same as her last? That's kind of...dumb...
  35. "So what's your full names?"
  36. "I don't know if Sarah even has one, and I don't remember mine. So what's a monster from that oriental island doing here?"
  37. Ami jumps around me and hops onto my shoulders, "I don't come from there. I was born on an island village to the northeast of here." Island northeast of here? I pull out my world map and look for the island she's talking about. But, it's not there... Maybe she's crazy?
  38. Sarah lifts and item that perked her interest out of the bag and inspects is closely. Ami jumps from my back and lands perfectly in front of Sarah, "That's a Magus Stone, It's used to store numerous spells inside of it. It's very valuable." Sarah eyeballs it a little more, before putting it in her mouth and swallowing it whole, "I'm sure it was."
  39. "W-WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!" Ami screeches out while holding her head. I guess she doesn't know much... Then again, I haven't said anything. So expecting her to already know is pretty stupid on my part.
  40. I try to calm the Kitsune down while explaining things to her, "You see, Sarah can recover strength and such by eating magical items or the hearts of powerful monsters." The Fox girl stares at me for a good minute, "Why does she need to recover her strength?"
  41. "I'll explain that another time, for now you'll need to stop her from eating your merchandise." I point towards Sarah, who's starting to eat a few more things.
  42.
  43. Time flies by, and before I knew it, it was already dark. We decided to make camp near a couple of rocks.
  44. All three of us are sitting near a fire. Ami is hugging her bag and crying due to Sarah eating a good amount of her items, Sarah is flexing her muscles and testing her strength, and I'm merely sitting in front of the fire and thinking.
  45. Well, now there's another person I have to look after and help. This is becoming somewhat of a pain.
  46. Though, at least it won't be boring...
  47.
  48. ?!
  49.
  50. Ami suddenly plops down next to me, "what are you thinking about?" I sigh loudly while stoking the fire, "Just thinking about mundane things."
  51. The little fox girl puffs her cheeks while frowning at me. "So I've been meaning to ask, what's with your sword?" She points at the sword beside me. It's a simple long sword, though it's dark gray in color. It's also heavier than a normal one and has a slightly longer blade than average.
  52. It DOES have interesting qualities, such as heightened durability, as well as never losing its edge. But it has no lasers, no sonic booms, no augmentations, and nothing fancy. "It's just a simple sword, though she has gotten me out of numerous situations."
  53. "...She?" Ami gives me a perplexed look before continuing, "Anyway, how did you acquire it?"
  54. "I may have...retrieved it...from a wreck site of an....ancient ruin." I bullshit my way through her question.
  55. "He stole it from a noble's carriage when he was younger." Sarah chimes in from a distance.
  56. Ami crosses her arms and frowns, "So you stole it? Why?" Dammit, Sarah. I sigh heavily as I pop my knees, "Back then things happened, and it just so happened that I needed a weapon. Since this one was within reach, and would no doubt sit on some lardy noble's mantle for the next couple hundred years, I decided to take it for myself."
  57. "Stealing is wrong!" Ami yells out while lightly smacking my forehead. Does she think this is punishment? I barely felt it, to be honest...
  58. "Whatever, I'm going to bed." I lay down on the ground and use my left arm as a pillow, "Keep watch and make sure the fire doesn't go out, you two."
  59. "Fine." "Okay." They both speak in unison. I quickly drift off to sleep, and begin dreaming about milking Holstaurus on a farm.
