  1. [21:58] Aurelia ven Grimmore says, "I'm good, yes..."
  2. [21:59] Katrin Weiss asks, "...Y'sure?"
  3. [21:59] Katrin Weiss says, "But uh. Ain't gotta' talk if you ain't want. C'mon in."
  4. [22:00] Aurelia ven Grimmore says, "Er-"
  5. [22:00] Aurelia ven Grimmore exclaims, "Sorry, I am fine, yes!"
  6. [22:00] Aurelia ven Grimmore says, "Just distracted."
  7. [22:00] Katrin Weiss says, "Ain't no shame in that."
  8. [22:00] Katrin Weiss says, "Lot goin' on in the world."
  9. [22:01] Katrin Weiss says, "Hmn..."
  10. [22:01] Katrin Weiss says, "That's right."
  11. [22:04] Katrin shuffles in, looking through the pieces she'd been given for the project. She takes out the arcanium first, all three hunks, then the fang.
  12.
  13. They're all set out on the work table, next to a blank sheet of parchment and a stick of graphite.
  14.
  15. "I'm thinkin' we can do this over...three sessions. If that pleases ya," she remarks as she draws up crude schematics. The rough drafts are always, well, the roughest.
  16.
  17. "First, we do it today, we melt down the arcanium. We infuse it with this fang here. Powderin' it up and mixin' it in, I think, will be the most potent. From that, we make the haft of the lance.
  18.
  19. Next, in another session, we end up takin' this crystal and usin' it as a power source. That'll work well with the runes you got in that codex.
  20.
  21. Then, the last part I think, oughta' be that Fiery platinum. I got a Drakanite apprentice or two, and I figure havin' more dragons here oughta' just be icin' on the cake."
  22.
  23. She lifts her head, blinks, and looks over her shoulder.
  24.
  25. "You're welcome to take a seat, by the way. Get cozy. Anythin' you want done different with this, we can discuss."
  26. (Katrin Weiss)
  27. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  28.
  29. [22:12] Aurelia nodded and walked over to the nearby chair and took a seat, one leg going over the other while she waited and listened with a smile. "That sounds reasonable enough. I am... ignorant to the processes of weapon forging, so this will be a rather curious experience for me!
  30.
  31. Or well... at least I can listen on it; I am also pleased the crystal can be used in tandem with those runes..."
  32. (Aurelia ven Grimmore)
  33. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  34.
  35. [22:17] "I can explain a lil' of what I'm doin' at least. Make it so it ain't boring for ya," she offers. The first order of business, as it always is, is to light the forge.
  36.
  37. Which, for a fire magi of her caliber and smith of her experience, takes little more than a tap to the forge's belly. The coals within begin flickering and popping with a life all their own as they burn once more. It was time to work. Rise and shine.
  38.
  39. "This tooth here has got potent fire magic properties. That's for sure," she comments. There's more clattering and clanking as she takes the hunks of arcanium and puts them into the great stone crucible that sits over the flames.
  40.
  41. "Sure. We could put it at the head of the lance. End up stabbin' with it. But I think that's better suited for the platinum. In my professional opinion, 'course.
  42.
  43. So instead, we're gonna crush it up. Its magical composition won't matter on whether it's whole or not, and it'll actually ad a lil' structural integrity to the metal besides.
  44.
  45. It's why some places will grind up bones and use 'em in their weapons."
  46. (Katrin Weiss)
  47. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  48.
  49. [22:23] As the woman explained, Aurelia had a look of intrigue. "Ah... yes, the fire magic within it was palpable. I was not sure how it would be applied to the weapon, but crushing it up and adding it into the mix? It makes sense!"
  50.
  51. Or she thought it did, at least. She wasn't the expert here.
  52.
  53. "What a curious process, grinding up bones and putting them into weapon, hrm. I'm sure it will boost the potency of the metal- er…" She nodded.
  54. (Aurelia ven Grimmore)
  55. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  56.
  57. [22:26] Thankfully, Katrin is the expert. Or something like that! She works to crush up the fang into a fine, fine powder while the arcanium renders down over the forge.
  58.
  59. "Pretty common in places that ain't have good steel. Go figure. Addin' it to the iron made it pretty damn close.
  60.
  61. They wanted to add the bones of their ancestors for strength. And, unintentionally, ended up actually makin' their weapons better anyway." A little laugh.
  62.
  63. "Funny how that works out sometimes, yeah?"
  64.
  65. A little hum and she takes the powdered fang, dumping it into the bubbling mixture of green, magical metal. It's summarily dumped into an ingot mold to cool.
  66.
  67. "But yeah. That lil' crystal will be a good power source for those runes, I figure. That'll be the step on your next visit. Then I'll hunt down my apprentices and do the head of the lance.
  68.
  69. Easy as pie."
  70.
  71. Theoretically,of course.
  72. (Katrin Weiss)
  73. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  74.
  75. [22:27] Katrin Weiss says, "Welcome back, darlin'."
  76. [22:33] Thorn had quietly stepped into the artificer's place of work, a badge being spun in the palm of his hand as he managed to take a seat. Eyes shut and he, practically became completely silent as he listened in on the two. Only soon enough, the Ookami would begin to hum as quiet as a mouse. "Hey there, pal. Whenever you need help in.. I'm here, yknow?" He rose a brow before leaning his head up against a crate behind him.
  77.
  78. "So you're making a lance. Not bad- Sounds kinda cool, actually. Got a cool name for it yet?"
  79. (Thorn Meztin)
  80. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.
  82. [22:38] The Grimmore hummed in amusement.
  83.
  84. "Yes, funny... yet very fortunate. Perhaps they thought it proof that their ancestors were truly with them, hm?" The topic is soon moved over when Thorn spoke. "I've had a few naming ideas; my retainer comes up with some of the oddest names, but one I've liked?
  85.
  86. Dyrnwyn. It's a nice name... to me, at least."
  87. (Aurelia ven Grimmore)
  88. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  89.
  90. [22:46] Quiet as he might have been, Katrin always knew when he entered. It was just a sixth sense for the presence of her cherished partner.
  91.
  92. "Moral support's fine. Just makin' the base tonight," she offers with a brief smile.
  93.
  94. The ingot, sure enough, was cool enough to maintain its shape but still hot enough to work. It's retrieved from its mold with a gloved hand, taken to the anvil.
  95.
  96. And then, as many an artificer is wont to do, the living daylights is beaten out of it with a hammer.
  97.
  98. "Liable to be that way I figure, miss Aurelia. But the results're what matter. Less the superstitions." She was, as ever, a practical creature.
  99.
  100. "Dyrnwyn...does sound kinda' nice. Rolls off the tongue. Sorta'. What're you intendin' to do with it, precisely?
  101.
  102. Other than violence. It's always violence."
  103. (Katrin Weiss)
  104. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  105.
  106. [22:53] Aurelia's blank gaze went to the floor as she considered the question. As the sound of work graced her ears, she wondered, what did she intend to do with the weapon?
  107.
  108. "It does always lead back to violence," she repeated. "I was going to say... to aid in the defense of others, but that too, is usually violent in itself." She frowned for a small time. "...other than that, I suppose I wanted another symbol to help represent my family. I was always told as a child that, in recent history, the Grimmore family has been looked up in an... unfavorable light.
  109.
  110. Cursed stars, books, things like that. I wanted something good created- or at least... something not bad, that could be potentially used by my descendants."
  111. (Aurelia ven Grimmore)
  112. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  113.
  114. [22:54] Katrin Weiss says, "Who in the absolute..."
  115. [22:54] Katrin Weiss asks, "Is that...Burly?"
  116. [22:54] Katrin Weiss asks, "Yeah. It is. Burly and...Ael and some other folks?"
  117. [22:54] Katrin Weiss asks, "Asura?"
  118. [22:55] Katrin Weiss says, "They can wait a lil'."
  119. [22:55] Burly Aldes says, "We need to sit down for the interview soon."
  120. [22:55] Katrin Weiss says, "Lil' busy. If ya can wait a moment."
  121. [22:55] Burly Aldes says, "Hey Kat have you seen."
  122. [22:55] Burly Aldes asks, "Lucas and others?"
  123. [22:55] Katrin Weiss asks, "...No?"
  124. [22:55] Katrin Weiss asks, "Why would I've?"
  125. [22:55] Burly Aldes says, "They were post meet Ael here."
  126. [22:55] Katrin Weiss asks, "I'm in the middle of fillin' an order. If ya'll need anything, ya can wait a minute?"
  127. [22:55] Burly Aldes says, "Or around here."
  128. [22:55] Katrin Weiss says, "Nah. I ain't seen 'em though."
  129. [22:55] Burly shrugs
  130. (Burly Aldes)
  131. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  132.
  133. [22:55] Katrin Weiss asks, "Good luck?"
  134. [22:55] Burly Aldes says, "Sorry for disturbing yah."
  135. [22:55] Katrin Weiss says, "S'fine."
  136. [22:59] A soft whistle escapes Thorn, "Dyrnwyn, huh?" He lets out a lighthearted chuckle before stating, "Sounds like a weapon of legend, or something close." His sights flick on over to Katrin, tawny hues open and aimed toward the artificer herself. "Moral support? I can do that." He pumps a few fists into the air, going all 'Woo' and 'Haa' without making that exact sound.
  137.
  138. "Your things are in great hands, pal. You're working with the greatest artificer in the world, by a longshot no less." He shoots Aurelia a glance and a sly smile.
  139.
  140. "I will say though... There's nothing wrong with violence. Sometimes, you simply can't convince someone. They're too obtuse, they're too selfish, too cruel. As long as you're willing to carry the burden... It'll all be alright." He nods before leaning his head against the crate once again.
  141.
  142. A hand rose, he began to idlysketch some runes into the air, mumbling underneath his breath.
  143. (Thorn Meztin)
  144. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  145.
  146. [23:05] "Yeah! Exactly. Like a weapon of legend," she says with a nod. "All of 'em got those kinda' weird names. Ain't they?"
  147.
  148. And with Thorn's moral support she is empowered. She hammers faster, more fiercely, and draws out the stout ingot into a longer, more cylindrical shape.
  149.
  150. Her fire magic, naturally, helps with this. She's always attributed a great deal of her success to her weaving in that regard.
  151.
  152. "Oh, I mean, sure. Sometimes you gotta' stab someone. It happens," Katrin comments nonchalantly.
  153.
  154. "Well. You'll have a nice tool to pave things how you wanna be. I think that's what I like best 'bout makin' weapons. Y'know?
  155.
  156. Givin' people a chance to forge their own path, sorta'...Ahh, but you ain't come here to listen to me get all poetical."
  157. (Katrin Weiss)
  158. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  159.
  160. [23:13] The woman hummed again. She looked pensive.
  161.
  162. "Well, I've learned not to shy away from it when it is necessary, it's just... as a girl, I used to think myself above it. That I was just so good that I would never have to consider such a thing... and that my worlds could also always sway anyone.
  163.
  164. Ever." She slowly shook her head. "But yes, as you said, Miss Katrin, sometimes you simply have to stab someone. At the very least, I can see to it that this weapon isn't used for wanton stabbing. Only the necessary kind."
  165.
  166. She nodded firmly.
  167. (Aurelia ven Grimmore)
  168. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  169.
  170. [23:16] "Y'know, really. I ain't the type to judge what someone uses a weapon for," she remarks, finalizing the drawing out of the ingot into a long, red-tinted metal rod. It'd be good for bashing on its own, but no. This thing is not nearly done.
  171.
  172. "I figured at one point...I didn't get room to judge on that kinda' thing. Can offer my thoughts, but beyond that? Nah.
  173.
  174. Once a child's outta' my hands, I can't control what they're gonna do in the world. If I tried. Well, I'd go crazy. Too damn many of 'em out there." A little laugh as she sets aside her hammer.
  175.
  176. "There'll be people out there though that can get swayed by words. Or, if you'd believe it...by coin. There's some folk that ain't willin' to bargain or deal."
  177.
  178. She admires the groundwork for her next creation. Her head cants.
  179.
  180. "And the ones that don't. Sometimes, yeah. They need a stabbin'."
  181. (Katrin Weiss)
  182. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  183.
  184. [23:16] Katrin Weiss says, "That bein' said...I think we got a good base here, for the time bein'."
