  1. just curious, have you seen that tweet from the "leader" of BLM toronto?
  2.
  3. I have.
  4. i honestly think that should disqualify them from leading the pride parade
  5. now their movement isn't about pride, its supremacy
  6.
  7. It was a horrible choice of words for her to express her emotions.
  8. if she's a leader, she needs to watch what she says
  9. on an unrelated note: the triple hit mix popcorn (caramel corn, chocolate, and mini pretzels) is on point
  10.
  11. She really does. I agree. I will never understand the anger and emotions of experiencing anti-black racism and will never claim to know that, but, words that express the death of others is just not acceptable.
  12. I get something like from Bulk Barn.
  13. Nomnom
  14. i got it there tongue emoticon
  15.
  16. Good girl.
  17. It's so good.
  18. i was there for bits & bites
  19.
  20. I also really like their peanut butter drizzled popcorn
  21. ($1.15/100g!)
  22. but i ended up gett those two, chocolate covered coffee beans, and some matcha powder
  23.
  24. Love those coffee beans as well
  25. but yeah
  26. TBH, i never thought BLM fit in with the message of Pride
  27. there are parallels in the struggles, but historically, and presently, black people are some of the more prominent homophobic oppressors
  28.
  29. And that's why we need BLMTO. Because of generalizations like the one you just made tongue emoticon
  30. I think the choice of having BLMTO with Pride is to show solidarity among groups who tend to experience widespread discrimination/
  31. im not saying all black people are bad, and im not saying that black people are not persecuted
  32. carding is still a thing and im strongly against it
  33. im just worried about some of the more...vocal members of BLM and how they might treat the more flamboyant people in the parade
  34. can you see that viewpoint?
  35.
  36. No, I think it's racist.
  37. Like that is blatantly racist.
  38. LOL
  39. "Because black people tend to be more homophobic than others, I am scared they will discriminate against gay people during pride"
  40. im basing it purely on statistics
  41. its anecdotal, but am i not allowed to have opinions based on my experiences?
  42.
  43. Race is a social construction, there is no biological predisposition that makes black people more homophobic than any other race/culture
  44. And based on that logic Michael, I can now say people of your race, are inherently racist. BECAUSE I EXPERIENCED YOU BEING RACIST.
  45. there is no biological basis, yes
  46. but im not talking about one or a few
  47. (and i will agree that many persians are racist, but thats besides the point)
  48.
  49. Just because you experience homophobia from lets say, 2 - 5 black people, or 20 black people for the matter, does give you the privilege to label a WHOLE RACE (millions if not billions) of people of being more homophobic than other.
  50. That will never hold up in any argument EVER in the world LOL
  51. im not talking 20 black people
  52. im comparing all the black people i know with all the other people i know (school, community, family friends, etc) and comparing incidence of homophobic comments/behaviour
  53.
  54. SO by the few people you know (in a more rural setting where homophobia is more apparent) you can say, with 100% that people of certain races are more homophobic than others?
  55. I think what you should be saying "People who grow up in a culture of homophobia, are more likely to be homophobic"
  56. Race has NOTHING to do with this.
  57. due to cultural norms? yes
  58. and pickering is in no way rural
  59. south of Finch
  60.
  61. Henny, compared to the city, it might as well be rural.
  62. its majorly suburban with urban areas
  63.
  64. Besides, why aren't you generalizing white people? Look at trump and all of his followers. By your logic I should now say "White people should be in pride because, based on anecdotal experiences, they are racist, homophobic, and misogynists.
  65. Look at Rob Ford and his followers.
  66. Sorry, but your logic is flawed and racist.
  67. Just because you're entitled to your opinion, doesn't make it right.
  68. what if you look outside of a caucasian-majority country
  69. and at countries /in/ africa
  70. yes, homophobia was intoduced by caucasian intruders, but they have held on to it and amplified it much more than any other area on the globe
  71. take Uganda
  72.
  73. Ok, so now you are saying "Uganda, majority of people are black. They are really homophobic, therefore, black people in Canada must be the same"
  74. Michael, homophobia is learned.
  75. It's not natural.
  76. You just said white people introduced it, so blame white ancestors, not black people.
  77. most caucasian cultures have majorly reduced homophobic sentiment
