  1. Shadow the Hedgehog - 100% No Library (All Keys, Weapons, and A-Ranks) FAQ
  2.
  3. Q) What is this category? Why does it take so long?
  4. A) This category unlocks everything in Shadow the Hedgehog. To do so, we must collect every key in every level, get A-Ranks for every mission, and unlock all of the weapons by achieving every ending. For getting every ending, we must playthrough the game 10 separate times to get the 10 endings required to unlock Last Story and the true ending.
  5.
  6. Q) What is WR?
  7. A) This category has never been run before. The estimate for this run is 9-12 hours.'
  8.
  9. Q) What is the "library"? Why are we skipping it?
  10. A) Due to the branching path system in Shadow, there are 326 different possible pathways to beat this game. For every one of those 326 pathways you beat, an entry unlocks in the Library, in order to showcase the number of ways you have beaten the game. Doing a true 100% playthrough would involve 326 separate playthroughs of the game. We estimate this would take 180 hours straight of gameplay. That is more than a week. While one day I may take the plunge and do a true 100% speedrun, today is not that day.
  11.
  12. Q) What is wrong with the colors on the screen? Why is the audio only coming out of one channel?
  13. A) Either my Wii component cables or my capture card is broken, causing there to be no blue color outputted and audio to only output on one channel.
  14.
  15. Q) How are you flying across the level? Why isn't the meter going down?
  16. A) Whenever you fill up the Hero meter by killing Dark-affiliated enemies or healing Hero-affiliated enemies, you can use Chaos Control, which allows you to fly forward through the level at great speed. If you activate Chaos Control while opening up a checkpoint menu, you can trigger what we call "Chaos Control Glitch" (CCG) where we can use Chaos Control infinitely without the meter running out. This glitch is not possible on the X-Box version of the game, by the way.
  17.
  18. Q) What are keys?
  19. A) Every level contains 5 keys placed throughout the stage. As well, every level contains a "key door." Once you've unlocked all 5 keys in a level, then the key door will be unlocked on all subsequent playthroughs of the game. The contents behind these key doors can range from shortcuts (very useful) to guns (rarely useful) to vehicles or 1-ups (completely useless). To properly "unlock" a key, you must touch it in the level and then beat any mission.
  20.
  21. Q) What are special weapons?
  22. A) For every new ending we get, we unlock a new special weapon (Or increase an existing weapon to level 2). These special weapons are much more powerful than the guns given to you normally throughout the game. When you find a Shadow Box, you can break it to get any special weapon that has been unlocked.
  23.
  24. Q) Which special weapons do you use?
  25. A) 1- The Omochao Gun is one of the most damaging guns that, after hitting an enemy, will bounce to a new enemy. This will be the most used weapon over the run.
  26. 2- The Egg Vacuum sucks in any enemies in front of you in the levels in which it is used, instantly killing them (It doesn't kill *all* enemies, so we only use it in levels where every enemy is instantly killed).
  27. 3- The Healing Cannon heals enemies. While this sounds useless, it helps fill your Hero meter when used on Hero-affiliated enemies. It can also heal the scientists in The Doom's Hero mission.
  28. 4- The Shadow Rifle is the most powerful gun in the game, one shotting every single enemy. Because you must beat Last Story to unlock it, this will only be used once, in Cleanup, to destroy the blimp in Iron Jungle Hero.
  29. 5- The Katana and Sattelite Laser are not used in this run.
  30.
  31. Q) Why is the mission order routed the way it is?
  32. A) [Here is a flowchart of the 10 routes https://i.imgur.com/cTmNvxK.png ]
  33. Firstly, over the course of the 10 playthroughs, we want to beat as many missions as possible without duplicates in order to get their A-Ranks.
  34. Secondly, we want to unlock certain special weapons as quickly as possible in order to use them for other missions. In particular, getting Lv 2 Omochao Gun, Lv 2 Egg Vacuum, and Lv 1 Healing Cannon is important.
  35. Thirdly, we want to do missions that require as few special weapons as possible when we don't have them unlocked. For example, only one mission in the first route benefits from having a special weapon.
  36.
  37. Q) What are A-Ranks for?
  38. A) Getting an A-Rank for every level unlocks Expert Mode.
  39.
  40. Q) Why aren't you playing Expert Mode in the speedrun?
  41. A) Beating Expert Mode does not unlock anything.
  42.
  43. Q) Why did the game crash?
  44. A) Using CCG has a chance to crash the game. We have no idea how to control this chance, so we can just hope that it doesn't crash whenever we use it.
  45.
  46. Q) Why aren't you skipping the cutscenes?
  47. A) You cannot skip a cutscene the first time you watch it.
  48.
  49. Q) What is "Cleanup" listed in the splits?
  50. A) In order to unlock all A-Ranks, you must do every mission at least 1 time. However, the 10 playthroughs required to unlock Last Story, you can not possibly do every single mission. So, after beating Last Story, we go to Select Mode to beat the missions that we have not beaten yet. Additionally, if I miss any keys over the course of the run, we will go back to the level in cleanup.
