  2.
  3.
  4. >As Toriel took one final glance to her son's bedroom, watching him walk in, she decided that she may as well sleep early as well.
  5. >Maybe she could get her class some snacks for the morning as well!
  6. >With that, Toriel put the freshly baked pie out to cool for the night, got ready for bed, and prayed to the Angel before she got herself comfortable in bed, setting her glasses aside as she yawned softly and closed her eyes.
  7. >...
  8. >Then, as soon as she closed her eyes… the soft sound of what can only be described as static began to sound all around her.
  9. >Toriel felt confused and a little nervous… yet, she couldn't open her eyes.
  10. >It felt as if she were moving too… maybe her eyes were open and it was just too dark to see?
  11. >She tried to look at her paws in front of her… but she couldn't see a thing.
  12. >As she did, the soft static grew louder… and louder… along with more unidentifiable noises that sounded like failing electronic devices.
  13. >Toriel tried to speak.
  14. >But nothing came out.
  15. >The more she tried to do anything, the louder it all got.
  16. >Until suddenly
  17. >It all came to an abrupt end.
  18. >Then and only then could she open her eyes.
  19. >When she did, she found herself on the ground… in what she could only describe as a cave.
  20. >A very… spacious cave.
  21. >'Was this one of those lucid dream things I hear about so often…?' Toriel thought to herself as she slowly stood up.
  22. >As she did, she realized she was wearing something completely different. What she could only describe as a… robe, of sorts. It looked as if someone from Ancient Greece or Rome would have worn such a thing… but she had no way of really knowing.
  23. >Toriel looked around her. There were walls all around her… which all seemed to have several pores ooze out some strange black substance. She wasn't too curious to really find out what exactly it was, so she simply guessed that it was crude oil or something.
  24. >She continued on down the path laid before her, noticing that there was some other footsteps ahead of her.
  25. >'So… someone else has been here…?'
  26. >She steeled herself despite her nervousness. Real or not, she would get through this.
  27. >Toriel hoped that she wouldn't get into any sort of fight during her time here… but if push came to shove…
  28. >Her fire magic would not fail her.
  29. >She walked and walked until she reached what seemed to be a dead end at a cliff. The only way down seemed to be quite the uncomfortable looking ditch beside her.
  30. >'Yeah… that is not happening.' She mused to herself and turned back.
  31. >Toriel noticed how there were some sort of… dust piles or something of the sort all around this room of the cave. She hadn't really bothered checking them since she really just wanted to leave and remain such things untouched.
  32. >But now, she was having second thoughts.
  33. >Maybe these things would have a key or something in them…?
  34. >She took a deep breath and reached out…
  35. >The moment her paw made contact with the pile, it immediately puffed out, emitting the unsettling sound of collapsed air.
  36. >She flinched a bit, but noticed that nothing remained in such piles. Turning around, she continued to do the same to the other remain piles in the room.
  37. >As Toriel touched the final one, she gasped as she unveiled what seemed to be a small, short red checker piece, looking up at her with a smile as it began dancing in place, kicking one leg up and whistling a three-note tune.
  38. >"O-oh dear! I'm so sorry, Mister…! I did not mean to intrude into your uhm… home." She smiled sheepishly, lifting her paws up a bit as she explained herself and her situation.
  39. >"I am Toriel. I am simply looking for a way out, and there was a dead end that way. So I figured that I could maybe find something in these… piles to help me find another way out of here. If I may, may I ask if you could help me…?"
  40. >The checker piece monster simply began to kneel up and down, now whistling a two tone tune as Toriel looked to the side for a split second, awaiting a response.
  41. >Then, after several seconds of nothing, the checker piece began to walk towards the other side of the room, still whistling the same tune.
  42. >"O...oh! Thank you very much, Mister." She smiled, sighing in relief as she followed closely behind it.
  43. >"You see, I have no idea how exactly I got here. One minute, I was peacefully resting in my bed for the night, and then I woke up here after a terrible… o… oh…!"
  44. >She stopped as the checker piece kicked its feet and whistled a different tune, standing beside the ditch and looking up at Toriel.
  45. >"...This is the only way down, isn't it." She mused.
  46. >The checker piece responded by standing in front of the ditch and jumping down, sliding down the ditch rather smoothly.
  47. >"...well I… supposed if it can't be helped…!"
  48. >With that, she carefully began to slide down the ditch, signifying the beginning of her own adventure.
