  2. How to breathe
  3.
  4. Put one hand on your belly and one on your chest, between your collar bones. Breathe slowly and deeply from the diaphragm. Your belly should expand in an exaggerated way on the inhale, your top hand should be still. This is the sort of “horizontal” breath you should aim for.
  5.
  6. Now do it “wrong” to feel the contrast. Breathe upwards into the chest, so your top hand moves but your bottom hand is still. This is the “vertical” breathing you should try to eliminate.
  7.
  8. Exercise 1
  9. Perch on the edge of a chair with your back straight. Breathe through your mouth. On the inhale, lean forward while expanding the belly. On the exhale, contract the belly as you lean back – breathe out until you are completely empty. Repeat 20 times. The movement should help situate the breath low in the body.
  10.
  11. Exercise 2
  12. Lie on your back and place a large book on your belly. Take a deep belly breath so it rises up in your peripheral vision. Repeat 50 times, adding heavier books. This will strengthen your core breathing muscles.

  21. Breaking the Death Habit by Leonard Orr
  22. Another breathing exercise, Alternate
  23. Nostril Breathing, came to me from Leonard, who received it from
  24. Goraknath: Inhale through the left nostril and exhale throug
  25. h the right nostril. Then inhale through the right
  26. nostril and exhale through the left nostril.
  27. Repeat this cycle three or nine times. Make the breaths as long as
  28. you comfortably can. You can either hold the inhale,
  29. or you can connect the inhale to the exhale as in
  30. twenty connected breaths. Developing a philosophy of
  31. physical immortality is the first step. The second
  32. step is to unravel the personal death urge absorbed from family tradition - the psychology of physical
  33. immortality. The third step is to develop mastery
  34. of the physical body - t
  35. he physiology of physical
  36. immortality. The third step is wher
  37. e practical spiritual purification exercises come in. For example, breath
  38. mastery teaches the cleaning of the mind and body in
  39. an easy, practical way. Fasting further cleans the
  40. blood. Mastery of sleep teaches, among other things,
  41. the mastery of the astral world, which most people
  42. think is the world of the dead. Water and fire purification are basic. Meditation:
  43. I am alive now. Therefore,
  44. my life urges must be stronger than my death urges. As long as I strengthen my life urges and
  45. weaken my death urges, I will go on living in increasing health and youthfulness.
  46. The philosophy of physical immortality strips the mind of
  47. all kinds of fears and miseries. It permits love and
  48. divine energy to express themselves more fully in y
  49. our personality. Therefore, even if you don't realize
  50. physical immortality, the philosophy is a wholesome group of ideas to work with and think about. In fact, the
  51. philosophy of physical immortality is fun and produce
  52. s a more fun life even if it does not achieve the
  53. ultimate goal. The belief that death is inevitable will kill
  54. you if nothing else does. But the truth is that your
  55. spirit is already eternal; you only have to move your
  56. mind and body into harmony with your eternal spirit.
  57. The philosophy of physical immortality gives your
  58. body a chance. Deathist mentality guarantees its
  59. destruction.
  60. Death is a grave mistake. The ps
  61. ychology of physical immortality:
  62. The difference between one person and
  63. another is primarily in he quality of ideas they thin
  64. k about. Thoughts of everlasting life produce health. The
  65. belief that death is inevitable is unhealthy to humans
  66. . This is just common sense. Psychosomatic science
  67. has proven that out beliefs influence our health. So what
  68. practical value does believing in death have if you
  69. desire health? The belief that death is inevitable ha
  70. s probably killed more people than all other causes
  71. combined. Even if you survive old age,
  72. illness, and accidents, and practice
  73. the techniques of rebirthing and
  74. affirmation, your own belief in death will get you in
  75. the end - unless you change it. Seriously questioning the
  76. idea that death is inevitable is good and practical for
  77. both mental and physical health. Immortalists argue
  78. that if death really was inevitable and beyond your control, then believing in physical immortality wouldn't
  79. hurt you. Put simply, the cause of death is really pollution in the body: physical pollution with food and
  80. toxins, and energy pollution through other people and our past accumulations. Both food and people are
  81. harmless in and of themselves, but it is possible to
  82. overdose. Sometimes overdose is obvious; sometimes it
  83. is very subtle. For example, it is possible to eat meat
  84. 25-50 years before it kills
  85. you through heart attack or
  86. cancer. Getting rid of physical and energy body pollution faster
  87. than we take it in is what I call the spiritual
  88. purification game. The more we win this game on a daily
  89. basis, the more often we can live in the Spirit, and
  90. the more control we have over our lives. When we lo
  91. se the spiritual purification game, we move towards
  92. aging and death.
  93. 1.Master the practice of processing your
  94. thoughts and feelings to reduce negativity.
  95. 2.Master the practice of spiritual breathing and practi
  96. ce it daily - at least twenty breaths connecting the
  97. inhale to the exhale in a relaxed rhythm. This
  98. includes a consciousness of the energy body.
  99. 3.Learn water purification by daily bathing in warm or co
  100. ld water and its significance in cleaning the energy
  101. body and unraveling birth trauma and womb consciousness. Meditating one hour per day in hot water can
  102. make anyone a spiritual master.
  103. 4.Say the name of God daily: Om Namaha Shivai, or Je
  104. sus Christ, or Jehovah, etc. Master mantra yoga.
  105. 5.Develop a personal philosophy of physical immo
  106. rtality: eternal life of spirit, mind, and body.
  107. 6.Unravel your personal death urge absorbed from family tradition, past lives, culture, etc.
  108. 7.Practice three-day fasts a few times each year, and realize the truth about food and diets. Diet changes
  109. along with conscious bathing, breathing,
  110. fire purification, and an exercise
  111. system can heal most diseases.
  112. 8.Experiment with sleeping and not sleeping.
  113. 9.Participate in a spiritual community that practices all these ideas.
  114. 10.Learn to read emotional messages in body sympto
  115. ms and how to process them with affirmations,
  116. breathing, and healthy practices.
  117. 11.Learn the role of exercise.
  118. 12.Study Herakhan Baba and ot
  119. her immortal masters.
  120. Spiritual liberation and mastery really mean the same th
  121. ing. It means to totally heal the emotional mind and
  122. thus to have a healthy body. It means eliminating vi
  123. ctim consciousness and becoming the source of our
  124. goals and desires. It means to live in bliss, free of death as a necessity. It means to integrate spirit, mind,
  125. and body and have the ability to heal the body. Spiritual
  126. enlightenment begins with the realization that
  127. energy becomes what it thinks about! Following is a
  128. short list of minimum requirements on the road to
  129. liberation and mastery. Choosing physical immortality:
  130. building a complete philosophy of life from the
  131. physical immortality per life instead of the deathist perspective. Becoming aware of the energy body.
  132. Learning to clean the energy body with m
  133. antra, earth, air, water, fire, and love practices. Doing the spiritual
  134. purification practices for enough years to actually be ahead of the process such that you are healing
  135. emotional energy pollution faster than you are taking it
  136. on. Making peace with the guru principle. (A guru is
  137. an ordinary person who reminds people
  138. of their natural divinity. G-U-R-
  139. U = Gee, yoU aRe You!) Choosing a
  140. lifestyle that supports spiritual growth and mastery.
  141. Becoming sophisticated in a knowledge of the great
  142. scriptures of all regions. Building spiritual communi
  143. ty. Having a successful relationship with Babaji, the
  144. Eternal Father in human form. Unraveling the death ur
  145. ge you received from your family tradition. Healing
  146. the diseases of senility. Finding satisfaction in career
  147. , prosperity, and citizen responsibilities. Eating of the
  148. Tree of Life, which means practicing the Presence of
  149. God, remains the Source of Eternal Life. God is the
  150. source of wisdom, peace, pleasure, mastery, materializat
  151. ion, and eternal life. Devotion to God is the source
  152. of the science of everla
  153. sting personal aliveness.
  154. 1. Mind
  155. *Take charge of the qualit
  156. y of your thoughts.
  157. *Do mantra yoga and practice affirmations.
  158. *Spend time in meditation, analysis, and wonder (raja yoga).
  159. *Heal the emotional mind and your death urge.

  164. 2. Air
  165. *Learn to breathe the energy as well as air (prana yoga).
  166. *Master rebirthing (unraveling bi
  167. rth trauma and death urge, etc.)
  168. *Master alternate nostril breathing
  169. 3. Fire
  170. *Learn fire purification and the fire ceremony.
  171. *Build fire into your daily life.
  172. *Remember that fire is as important to human health as food.
  173. 4. Water
  174. *Do pranayama in the bathtub.
  175. *Bathe twice a day.
  176. *Drink good water.
  177. *Learn the science of cleaning your energy body.
  178. *Achieve peace and relaxation.
  179. 5. Earth
  180. *Learn food mastery. How much does your body really need?
  181. *Realize that vegetarianism is a foundation for spiritual enlightenment.
  182. *Develop a personal exercise system.
  183. *Develop a divine career and live your divine gifts.
  184. *Engage in massage and bodywork, as we
  185. ll as playing percussion instruments.
  186. 6. People and Love
  187. *Be aware of emotional energy pollution and ho
  188. w to best process the energy of others.
  189. *Be part of a spiritual community.
  190. *Be part of local politics and neighborhood representation.
  191. *Revere and learn from spiritual teachers.
  192. 7. Grace
  193. *Learn the meaning of devotion.
  194. *Practice the Presence of God.
  195. *Don't just depend upon grace and ignore the rules!
  196. Air:
  197. Air purification means to consciously breathe e
  198. nergy as well as air - pranayama. The simple
  199. pranayama that I practice is the pranayama of newborn
  200. babies. Infants merge the inhale to the exhale in a
  201. continuous rhythm. This is the simplest and most
  202. natural pranayama of eter
  203. nal life. Twenty connected
  204. breaths is a quick and tremendously valuable exercise that helps to clean the blood as well as the nervous
  205. system. Rebirthing is pranayama, or energy breathing, wh
  206. ile relaxing; it is especially powerful when done in
  207. a warm bath. We can breathe away
  208. negative energy concentrations and clean ourselves inside and out
  209. with spiritual breathing. Conscious br
  210. eathing is a delight more satisfying than fine food. I also practice three
  211. rounds of alternate nostril breathing per day as the pranayama Babaji taught me to keep my nadis clear.
  212. Fire:
  213. The example of the saddhus in India who live in a
  214. dhuni teaches us the value of fire purification. A
  215. dhuni is a small structure in which a sacramental fire
  216. is maintained twenty-four hours a day. When we sit or
  217. sleep near an open flame, the wheels of our energy
  218. body (our aura) turn through the flames and are
  219. cleaned. The emotional pollution of participating in t
  220. he world is burned away. Death urges are dissolved by
  221. fire and water together as they clean and balance the ener
  222. gy body. Fire is as important as food. Fire may
  223. be the highest element of God and requires the most
  224. intelligence to use. It is perhaps the most neglected
  225. natural divine element of God in our civilization. This neglect has put us on the brin
  226. k of nuclear
  227. war. Nuclear
  228. was is involuntary fire purification for people who are not willing to do it consciously and voluntarily. The
  229. same technology that has moved our civilization away from the direct ex
  230. perience of fire threatens to bring
  231. us back in a few minutes through nuclear war. Ce
  232. ntral heating systems, elec
  233. tric stoves, and microwave
  234. ovens have moved direct contact with fire out of our daily lives. We should use our technology and wealth
  235. to build a fire temple in every park and neighborhood. It
  236. is critical that we reestablish the direct experience
  237. of fire in our religions and our civilization.
  238. Water:
  239. Just about everyone in the West has indoor pl
  240. umbing and hot water, making physical immortality
  241. available to the modern masses. As a result, it is
  242. easy for most people to bathe twice per day, as is the
  243. practice of the immortal yogis. I value hot water bathing
  244. as the supreme gift of spiritual civilization. I believe
  245. human lifespan have doubled in the last hundred year
  246. s because indoor plumbing and warm water have
  247. made water publication so pleasurable. Warm water
  248. opens and cleans the charkas. Cold water cleans and
  249. automatically closes the charkas. Cold water cleans
  250. and automatically closes the charkas. These gifts of
  251. science and technology are worthless to us
  252. if we don't use them consciously.
  253. Both showers and total immersion are necessary for the full understanding of water purification. Doing
  254. breathing exercise in the bath increases their efficien
  255. cy. Oceans, rivers, lakes, and especially hot springs
  256. are infinitely valuable natural resources. Breathing in
  257. warm water produces different results than breathing
  258. in could water.
  259. The simple act of bathing daily in water can be a profound
  260. act of spiritual purification. To gain its full value,
  261. you should practice immersion in a bathtub, sea or
  262. river while meditating before, during, and after. The
  263. value of thinking deeply while going in and out of wate
  264. r is that it enables you to discover how bathing
  265. changes your emotional and psycholog
  266. ical states. Thinking while lying in a warm bathtub is the greatest
  267. form of meditation I have ever tried. Daily bathing
  268. cleans the energy body. Drinking good water is also
  269. important, but bathing twice a day is the easiest and
  270. most pleasurable way to clean the energy body, which
  271. is the source of the physical body. To be immortal
  272. in today's world, we must learn how to soak.
  273. Earth:
  274. Earth means movement, food mastery, and work. The disciplines of walking around your block once
  275. per day and fasting one day per week on liquids only may be all that is necessary to achieve perpetual
  276. longevity in the earth category. Most people die not fr
  277. om hunger but from overeating. Being a vegetarian is
  278. essential but not enough. Fasting one day per week on
  279. liquids - milk or juice first, and eventually only good
  280. water - is essential to clean
  281. the bloodstream and energy body.
  282. Earth purification involves finding work that you love
  283. and loving your work. Work is the supreme service to
  284. God, to people, and the secret to pros
  285. perity in the world. Prosperity
  286. means to produce ideas, goods, and
  287. services of value for others as well as ourselves. We
  288. receive money form others when we give them ideas,
  289. goods, and services that they are willing to pay for. A sa
  290. tisfying career taps the joys
  291. of our soul. It involves
  292. serving others in a way that covers our own life expenses. Earth yoga also involves mastery of sleep. Sleep
  293. is a minor death - unconsciousness - that leads to th
  294. e bid sleep. Sleep is involuntary entrance into the
  295. astral world, as well as the suppression of unpleasa
  296. nt emotions. Eventually the body becomes such an
  297. unpleasant repository of suppression that we deposit it
  298. in the grave and escape permanently into sleep. But
  299. we get reborn, as you know. We can master sleep by
  300. staying awake all night during the full moon as often
  301. as possible, and by arising each day before sunrise.
  302. Receiving massage and bodywork and listening to
  303. percussion are also forms of earth purification. There are a few other important components of body/mind
  304. mastery, in addition to a conscious
  305. relationship with the above elements.
  306. Mind:
  307. This aspect of yoga means taking charge of the quality of our thoughts. Mantra yoga is meditation on
  308. the name of God. You can use any
  309. name, but Babaji taught me that
  310. OM NAMAHA SHIVAIYA
  311. is the Maha
  312. Mantra. It is the name given to Moses in the burning bush and is common to many great religions of the
  313. world. In Hebrew it is "Om Shivaiya" pronounced ba
  314. ckwards: "Ya Vah Shim Omen." The Catholic church
  315. changed "Omen" to "Amen." The Sanskrit is transliter
  316. ated both as "Om" and "Aum." The idea is to clear our
  317. minds every day, to raise the quality of our thoughts and
  318. feelings. The Names of God constitute the fastest
  319. and easiest ways to realize our divine nature. C
  320. ontinual remembrance of God's name merges our
  321. consciousness with God; it is the supreme technique
  322. of aliveness and wisdom. This is my steady diet.
  323. Reading the scriptures and other great spiritual literatur
  324. e also uplifts the quality of our thoughts. We need to
  325. heal our emotional mind even if it takes a century. People and Love: The purpose of spiritual purification is
  326. to make us wise and loving. Right relationships to p
  327. eople are the fastest way to total liberation. People can
  328. upset us and they can liberate us. Lov
  329. e is the secret of Eternal Life. Everlasting life has no value or joy
  330. without loving relationships. Being a responsible citi
  331. zen is also basic for democracy to work. We must
  332. respect the immortal saints. We must find our true spir
  333. itual teachers and support them. They can teach us a
  334. lot. There are many truly great spiritual healers and gu
  335. rus in the world today. Babaji is the source of all
  336. immortals and all forms of immortality. To meet him
  337. in his physical body is the greatest opportunity this
  338. world has to offer.
  339. Grace:
  340. Grace is the lubricant for all of these spiritual
  341. purification practices. Gr
  342. ace, rest, and devotion are
  343. important to personal health & aliveness. Practicing
  344. the Presence of God may be the highest goal of the
  345. good life.
  346. Grace is unpredictable because it
  347. is an expansion of the very personal
  348. God of the universe. The quantity
  349. and quality of the grace we receive for doing these practices is determined by our love for God and God's
  350. love for us. Our meditation on grace is the revelation
  351. of this personal relationship between us & God. Grace
  352. and spiritual purification constitute an eternal paradox. Babaji is Lord Shiva himself.
  353. "Shiva"
  354. is the Sanskrit
  355. word for God. Babaji is God the Father. Baba means
  356. "father"
  357. . Ji means
  358. "supreme"
  359. or "respected ruler".
  360. There is always only one Babaji, but he has many bodies.
  361. "Om Namaha Shivaiya"
  362. is the eternal name for
  363. God, according to Babaji himself. The first human form
  364. of Shiva on Earth was called Shiva and is portrayed
  365. in the Sanskrit scriptures as a simple yogi asceti
  366. c. His asceticism, however,
  367. encompassed all of life,
  368. including its pleasures. Shiva participated in ever
  369. ything, including abundant sex at times, but his
  370. predominant lifestyle was sitting alone in nature meditati
  371. ng, which he often did for centuries. Mount Kailash
  372. and Herakhan have always been his favorite places. He
  373. returns to this area millennium after millennium. He
  374. calls it the Supreme Universal Spiritual Pilgrimage. To
  375. day there is a beautiful ashram here. A constant flow
  376. of people visit it from all countries and all religions on Earth. Babaji is the creator and the director of his
  377. creation. When he is in a human body, he calls himself Bhole Baba, which means the
  378. "Simple Father".
  379. He
  380. normally lives such an ordinary life when he is in a
  381. human form that nobody can recognize him without his
  382. grace - in other words, through inner realization. He
  383. is not special, except to those who see. As Bhole
  384. Baba, he doesn't interfere. He waits for us to evolve enough to see him. He protects us with the minimum of
  385. intervention. He likes to see our responsibility and
  386. self-sufficiency. Occasionally, he does acknowledge his
  387. true identity in public. He allows people to call him the Supreme Lord.
  388. Babaji and Jesus:
  389. Jesus spent nine years in Benares, India, with Babaji during the missing years in the
  390. gospel record, between the ages of 12 and 30. Jesus l
  391. earned his simple lifestyle and spiritual practices
  392. from Babaji at this time. A book entitled Jesus Lived in
  393. India gives the historical evidence for this. Jesus
  394. returned to Kashmir thirty or forty years after his resurrection, where he lived another thirty or forty years,
  395. then died and was buried there. An indigenous Christian church sprung up in Kashmir and has maintained
  396. in his tomb as a holy spiritual pilgrimage site for 1900 years. This information is well-known in Muslim
  397. writing but has been suppressed in the Christian We
  398. st until recent decades. Jesus became a saddhu in
  399. India. A saddhu is a person who is seeking God full-
  400. time. Jesus is the most famous Western saddhu. You
  401. can see his simple saddhu lifestyle in the Bible, but not among Christians today in the West. I experience
  402. Babaji's humanity as more richly human than any
  403. other person I have ever met. And I experience his
  404. divinity as being in a class by itself, even though I know
  405. that he is only spirit, mind, and body like I am. I
  406. might say that his pure divinity makes him able to be human the way humans are really supposed to be. At
  407. a certain level of spiritual development, people become
  408. aware of Babaji's physical body when he is in the
  409. world and are naturally attracted to him. To visit him is the ultimate pilgrimage. Baba
  410. ji works silently most of
  411. the time. The fact that he is now willing to be visible
  412. and speak to the nations is
  413. a sign that people may be
  414. reaching spiritual maturity. Whether
  415. as Shiva, Ram, Krishna, Goraknat
  416. h, Munindra, Lama Baba, or any of
  417. this unrecognized millions of appearances, he uses the
  418. games of life to raise our consciousness and our
  419. enjoyment of spirit, mind, and body.
  420. *Sing the name of God. Babaji recommends
  421. "Om Namaha Shivaiya"
  422. as the eternal affirmation of your
  423. divinity. It is the supreme name of God - the
  424. maha mantra. It evokes all divine powers, wisdom, and
  425. emotions. The constant repetition of "Om Namaha Sh
  426. ivaiya" evokes the presen
  427. ce, power, aliveness, and
  428. energy of God in human consciousness.
  429. This chant can be done twenty-four hours per day until it fills every
  430. breath anc cell. It can be done silently. If you prefer
  431. , you can chant Jesus Christ, Jehovah, or any other
  432. name for God that evokes the divine presence in
  433. your mind and body. My favorite translation of Om
  434. Namaha Shivaiya is
  435. "Om,"
  436. infinite being,
  437. "Namaha,"
  438. infinite manifestation, and
  439. "Shivaiya,"
  440. infinite
  441. intelligence." I like to think of God or
  442. Shiva as this trinity of infinite being, intelligence, and manifestation.
  443. Infinite being is the eternal Spirit, divine substance, th
  444. e Source, the Father of the Christian Trinity, or the
  445. Mother or Feminine Principle. Infinite intelligence is bo
  446. th creator and destroyer, Thought, the Director of the
  447. power of being, the eternal begotten Son of the Christian Trinity, the masculine seed that impregnates
  448. infinite being with content. Infinite intelligence is our
  449. ever-present divine potential; every thought exists in
  450. the middle of infinite being and intelligence. Infinite m
  451. anifestation is the univers
  452. e, the thoughts that stay
  453. there whether we are thinking them or not, earth, air, ligh
  454. t, water, and fire, the Holy Spirit of the Trinity, God
  455. in action, the human body, the form of thought and bei
  456. ng. It is not possible to represent Babaji without
  457. recommending this mantra and the practice of mantra yoga.
  458. *Babaji constantly encourages me to take more time to think and meditate. He recommends that we devote
  459. several hours per day to pure thought. Clearing the mi
  460. nd and raising the quality of our thoughts is critical -
  461. more important than making money, to say the leas
  462. t. The mind is the source of a good life and healthy
  463. body. A person with a clear mind has harmonious and loving relationships. I manage to devote two or three
  464. hours per day to thinking, even during busy days, and this makes worldly success so much easier and
  465. more fun.
  466. *Babaji calls breath mastery mahayoga.
  467. "Maha"
  468. means supreme or greatest,
  469. "yoga"
  470. means science of life
  471. or union with God. The basic breathing lesson is to connect the inhale to the exhale in a relaxed continuous
  472. rhythm. *Babaji recommends carrying ou
  473. t several simple practices of spir
  474. itual purification. Part III details
  475. some of these practices; below is a brief summary. Wa
  476. ter: Babaji bathes twice per day in the Ganga River,
  477. which flows through Herakhan. In addition to cleaning
  478. the skin, water cleans the aura and balances energy
  479. centers. Fire: He has a fire ceremony every morning in
  480. which he feeds the fire with grains, fruit, and butter.
  481. In addition, he has a fire pit in his bedroom that he normally sleeps next to.
  482. Earth:
  483. Babaji recommends the
  484. mastery of food and sleep. Food mastery is achieved by
  485. simple diet changes. Vegetarianism is a simple
  486. path to fasting. Babaji also recommends walking,
  487. farming, and manual labor. He recommends that the
  488. diving person live harmony with plants and animals. Li
  489. ght: Babaji is well-known for shaving people's hair.
  490. During the spring of 1979, he shaved mine. Babaji also recommends that you develop a conscious
  491. relationship to the sun and moon. He says, "Staring at
  492. the moon all night can heal all the diseases of the
  493. mind and body. Watching the sun rise can give you cool strength that lasts all day.
  494. " Babaji is obviously the
  495. most adept psychoanalyst, with a cosmic and eternal per
  496. spective on each individual's personality. He can
  497. transform us rapidly if we are willing. If every person
  498. visited him in his physical body to receive his darshan,
  499. or divine glance, the realization of one human family
  500. would be inevitable. You don't even have to believe to
  501. see him. Sometimes the most ignorant and skeptical p
  502. eople have the most beautiful experiences with him.
  503. Bhartriji:
  504. Bharaji's ashram is located in the village of Bharta
  505. ra (named after him) in the district of Alwar in
  506. the state of Rajasthan, India. It is
  507. on the road from New Delhi to Jaipur near a popular tourist destination
  508. named Sariska Forest Reserve. The forest reserve of
  509. one hundred square miles is actually Bhartriji's. Most
  510. physical pleasures are legitimate for immortals and ha
  511. rmless. In fact, most evils by themselves are
  512. relatively harmless; it is when we turn them into
  513. habits that they become destructive. When our life energy
  514. is controlled by evil habits, the evil habits destroy us by destroying our will to live. Even some good habits
  515. can kill us when we are ruled by the habit instead of
  516. ruling it. We destroy our body by lack by lack of
  517. respect for it as out personal divine gift from God.
  518. The physical body is our most valuable possession, but
  519. people sacrifice it to win the money game, to support thei
  520. r car or house, or to please their friends or their
  521. deathist religion. Without spiritual purification practi
  522. ces, our body becomes heavier every year, diseases
  523. become more common, and death is inevitable. You don't
  524. have to wait to die and go to hell to be miserable.
  525. You only have to neglect spiritual purification and
  526. live an unbalanced and undisciplined life. Spiritual
  527. practices are more important for personal mastery t
  528. han knowledge. We become jaded when we learn more
  529. and more self-improvement techniques that we don't practice.
  530. 1.Choosing physical immortality is level one. It involv
  531. es building a complete philosophy of life from the
  532. physical immortality perspective inst
  533. ead of the deathist perspective. Such
  534. thoughts move us in the right
  535. direction, but we must produce the right actions to cr
  536. eate results. The widely available Science and Health
  537. by Mary Baker Eddy is a massive contribution to immortal thinking.
  538. 2.Become aware of the energy body
  539. - a major stage toward mastery.
  540. 3.Learn to clean the energy body with mant
  541. ra, earth, air, water, fire practices, and love practices. There is
  542. no substitute for this. These rituals are all very pleasurable to do and create a life of satisfaction and
  543. spiritual mastery. They keep our mind and body tuned in
  544. to the Presence of God, which is the experience of
  545. ecstasy.
  546. 4.Do the practices for enough years to actually be ahead of the spiritual
  547. purification process, so that you
  548. are healing emotional energy pollution faster than you are taking it on. Participation in the world of mortals
  549. does have a cost. I call it emotional energy pollution.
  550. We have to win the game of spiritual purification.
  551. 5.Make peace with the guru principle - internal and external discipline. We may need a teacher.
  552. 6.Choose a lifestyle that supports spiritual growth and mastery. We may need more solitude!
  553. 7.Become sophisticated in a knowledge of the great
  554. scriptures of all religions and the great human
  555. literature, especially the Shiva Purana.
  556. The Bible contains the case historie
  557. s of five immortals, plus Babaji--
  558. -the Angel of the Lord. The Shiva Purana contains case
  559. histories of thousands of immortals. It contains the
  560. most sophisticated story of Creation.
  561. 8. Build spiritual community as a personal suppor
  562. t environment for our collective healing and physical
  563. survival. Churches only work if they are based upon sp
  564. iritual practices. Most people in most churches are
  565. dick and dying like everyone else. Breath
  566. work and spiritual practices with fire, fasting, etc., are the source
  567. of the true revival the Christian church is seeking.
  568. 9. Find satisfaction in career, prosperity and citizen re
  569. sponsibilities. Choose a career that supports our
  570. aliveness and is not too costly from the supports ou
  571. r aliveness and is not too co
  572. stly from standpoint of
  573. emotional energy pollution. One's career must have a proper balance between solitude and participation---
  574. between meditation and worship and worldly success. Spir
  575. itual purification is more important than money.
  576. And it supplies us with the energy and wisdom to ac
  577. hieve great success. Jesus was right when he said,
  578. "seek first the Kingdom of Good and His righteousness, and all material things will be effortlessly and
  579. joyfully added to you.
  580. 10. Have a successful relationship with Babaji, the
  581. Eternal Father in human form, and make him available
  582. to your friends on this path. He usually has at least one body on the planet at all times. God, the Eternal
  583. Father-Mother, has not stopped revealing Himself-Herself. They are participating in history today and
  584. appear to thousands of people magically every day. T
  585. hey are willing to play with you! Open you mind!
  586. 11. Unravel the death urge you received from your family tradition. This is easy for some and difficult for
  587. other. Some people can't even feel the
  588. death urge until their parents die. But what if your parents become
  589. immortal and don't die?
  590. 12. Heal the diseases of senility.
  591. Senility is the final exam to the human condition, a major barrier to
  592. physical immortality. Most people give up and die rather
  593. than go for personal mastery. We would rather let
  594. someone else do it for us. This is where we have to master helplessness, hopelessness, infancy
  595. consciousness, birth trauma, womb consciousness, etc.
  596. You must know that it is possible to live through
  597. and heal all the popular terminal of senility. One of
  598. the reasons Christianity doe is because it still preaches
  599. welfare salvation. Re (which Jesus preached) wo
  600. rks better---repentance means the science of changing
  601. one's mind.
  602. I. 13. Actually heal birth trauma, womb and infancy
  603. consciousness, the parental disapproval syndrome, and
  604. the unconscious death urge from family and past liv
  605. es, and consciously use the power of the human mind.
  606. Healing the emotional mind is our mind
  607. is our main job in our first century
  608. II. 14. Shiva Kalpa is the basic rite of rejuvenation--- a twelve years course.
  609. The above all relation to mastery of the human
  610. condition; next comes our divine potential.
  611. 15. Learn transfiguration---dematerializing and re-materializing the body at will.
  612. 16. Experiment with teleportation, astral pr
  613. ojection, levitation, walking on water, etc.
  614. These skills are attained after us become a loving
  615. and enlightened humanitarian. They are less important
  616. than being a fully participating citizen.
  617. 17. Master foods, sleep, and sex. The forty-day fa
  618. st (no food or water) was a common denominator of
  619. immortals in the Bible. Mastering food seems to have something to do with mastering the body and death.
  620. This is obvious if you think about it.
  621. 18. Develop a conscious relationship to the sun, moon
  622. , planet Earth and its ecology, etc. The scriptures of
  623. the immortal yogis have much to teach us about this.
  624. 19. Master the body organs inste
  625. ad of being controlled by them.
  626. 20. Be able to heal the body and make it invincible to wound, diseases, and death, even bullets.
  627. 21. Master the millions yoga that it takes to build a hu
  628. man body directly out of spir
  629. it with the mind. Evolution
  630. can begin at any point and proceed in any direction.
  631. We are wholly the Eternal Spirit right now---body,
  632. atoms, and cells included.
  633. Suggested Practices for Spiritual Purification
  634. The simple breathing practice of connecting the inhale
  635. to the exhale for one hour per day seems to dissolve
  636. the effects of all kinds of psycholog
  637. ical causes, though the accumulati
  638. on of trauma and tension since birth
  639. gives some people difficulty mastering this simple
  640. breathing lesson. Most people need five to twenty two-
  641. hour lessons to clear the gross accumulated trauma and
  642. tension out their minds and bodies before they can
  643. maintain this simple breathing rhythm for one hour with out dramatic physical and emotional changes.
  644. Rebirthing breath work can be mastered by many peopl
  645. e in ten two-hour sessions with a well-trained
  646. rebirth. (I recommend that you interview two or th
  647. ree rebirth before choosing o
  648. ne to do your ten sessions
  649. with.) Going through what is called the hyperventilation
  650. syndrome in one or two sessions is a natural part of
  651. the rebirthing process. Rebirthing has cleared up hyperventilation,
  652. "kundalini casualties,"
  653. and many kinds
  654. of respiratory difficulties.
  655. Alternate Nostril Breathing
  656. Following is another profound and simple breathing exercise for spiritual and physical purification. The
  657. inhale is pulled softly through the left nostril, held as long as it feels good and expelled softly through the
  658. right nostril. Then the inhale is taken softly through the
  659. left nostril, held as long as long as it feels good, and
  660. expelled softly through the right nostril. Then the inhale
  661. is taken softly through the right nostril, held as long
  662. as it fells right, and exhaled through the left nostril. Th
  663. is exercise can be done once, three, or nine times
  664. daily. I personally experience that three times a
  665. day creates powerful cleansing experiences.
  666. The yagna ceremony is an exception. There is some
  667. thing about the mantra power and intention of the
  668. official Sanskrit fire ceremony that is unique. A yagna
  669. is a special fire ceremony by a Sanskrit priest that
  670. offers rice, butter (ghee), honey, sugar, flowers, fruit,
  671. etc., to the flames of a fire large enough to consume
  672. it. The mantras recited during this ceremony take
  673. about an hour. A yagna changes
  674. the energy of everyone
  675. who participates. Every fire releases prana energy th
  676. at accelerates the health and growth of trees and
  677. plants. Its powerful life energy released into the
  678. atmosphere heals and nourishes nature. The ashes make
  679. an excellent fertilizer. Each safe fire creates a beautif
  680. ul spiritual vibration. But one bad fire can cause a lot
  681. of destruction. How ever, even the destruction of acci
  682. dental fires can heal mass death urge in a community.
  683. The Fire Ceremony
  684. When I went to India to seek out the immortal yagis, I watched Babaji do the fire ceremony every day. It
  685. consisted of offering rice permeated with melted butte
  686. r, fruits, nuts, flowers and sometimes yogurt, honey or
  687. sugar to the fire while thinking or speaking Sanskr
  688. it mantras. You may not be as dense as I. You may be
  689. ready for the fire ceremony right now. The ceremony is
  690. very simple. You build a fire, then offer your favorite
  691. foods to the fire. If you like, you can say,
  692. "Om Namaha Shivaiya Swaha."
  693. Its mean
  694. "I offer to God."
  695. Fire
  696. is thought of as the Mouth of God. The fire ceremony
  697. is an act of love and devotion. The fire ceremony can
  698. be done in its simplest form by sprinkling sugar in th
  699. e flame of a candle. The full yagna ceremony is very
  700. elaborate. It is probably the most powerful spiritual cere
  701. mony in the world. It may be the greatest ritual. This
  702. ceremony must be done by a properly trained Sanskrit priest. That gravity causes it ---no pushing or
  703. holding. In addition, do ten to twenty spiritual breathi
  704. ng sessions with a well-trained spiritual breathing
  705. teacher or rebirth. This should in
  706. clude warm-and cold-water rebirthing.
  707. Food:
  708. Abstain from food for one day each week for a year. It probably should be a weekday. Weekend
  709. days are often social and therefore not good to establis
  710. h a rhythm. Do only one day per week the first year.
  711. Then do two days per week the second year; three
  712. days per week the third year. I don't recommend
  713. accelerating this program because you mind and body lik
  714. e lots of time and experience to integrate these
  715. new food habits and rhythms. It is OK to do half-da
  716. y to learn something about the yoga of comfort and
  717. pleasure. Liquids are permitted on fast days. I reco
  718. mmend vegetarianism and fruit diets (eating only fruit
  719. and nuts for a week or a month) as a regular practice
  720. . Macrobiotics is a valuable diet. Being scientific
  721. means that we experiment until we get the healing or t
  722. he result we desire, then we know the truth about
  723. what works. This truth sets us free from diseases and gives us victory and mastery.
  724. Name of God:
  725. Sing the Name of God daily. You can sing or
  726. chant any name for God, but I have received
  727. the greatest value from singing Om Namaha Shivaiya
  728. . The purpose of repeating the Name of god every
  729. day is that it evokes the divine presence and all divine emotions. It is wonderful to remember the Name of
  730. God constantly throughout the day until it becomes an ever presence thought. This may be the simplest
  731. and greatest technique of spiritual purification.
  732. Sleep:
  733. Stay awake all night once each month. Meditate on the emotional changes and body feelings.
  734. Meditate on the moon and the sunrise. Use the exercise in Step 1 to pr
  735. ocess your distur
  736. bing thoughts and
  737. feelings.
  738. Spiritual community:
  739. Participate in a monthly town meeting on your block or in your watershed. The
  740. purpose is to realize a spiritual family and friendship
  741. s, as well as to fulfill the basic responsibilities of
  742. citizenship. If your neighbors aren't receptive to this
  743. sort of community, you may want to reconsider being
  744. where you are. The more people there are who are interested in physical immortality, the easier it is for all
  745. of us. In addition, learn as much as po
  746. ssible from the great saints on Earth.
  747. Hair:
  748. Shave your head at least once
  749. ever ten years. I recommend during one year every decade or so, you
  750. shave your head twice per week (Sundays and Wedn
  751. esdays) for nine months. This cleans your energy
  752. body, heals the physical body and reverses the aging proces
  753. s. It also accelerates the your thing process.
  754. Bathing:
  755. Water purification is simple and easy. I have had the practice of meditating while immersed in a
  756. warm bathtub for one hour per day for many years. Taki
  757. ng showers daily is effective, but I recommend total
  758. immersion in water at least once per week. Doing co
  759. nnected breathing while entering the water produces
  760. special value, but you can easily experience your energy body-the human aura-by meditating or feeling
  761. changes as you enter water.
  762. Fire:
  763. We have taken fire for granted in the twentieth c
  764. entury. We use the power of fire in our cars, our
  765. homes; it does most of our work for us and is the source of infinite comfort and pleasures. In India and in
  766. Native American cultures, people practice a ceremony
  767. of feeding a fire with ordinary food as an act of
  768. respect and gratitude for what fire does for us. American Indians also sometimes give food to their water
  769. sources as well to feed the gods of nature. These are good practice.
  770. Manual Labor:
  771. Physical work is holy. I recommend that y
  772. our regularly use your body to do housework,
  773. gardening, carrying out your own trash, etc. Work
  774. ing with or on the earth produces good feelings and
  775. spiritual enlightenment. Farming is the holiest occupat
  776. ion on Earth. Bodywork methods, massage, martial
  777. arts such as tai chi, and athletic activities also qua
  778. lity as manual labor. Receiving massage and bodywork is
  779. a method of spiritual purification.
  780. Population control:
  781. Each person must exercise
  782. responsibility for his or her re
  783. productive powers to control
  784. population growth. As physical immortality become mo
  785. re population growth. As physical immortality
  786. become more popular, more conscious childbearing becomes important. Unraveling the trauma of the birth-
  787. death cycle rehabilitates our ability to appear and disappe
  788. ar on Earth by choice. Transfiguration is an
  789. acceptable alternative to physical death as a meth
  790. od of reducing overpopulation problems on Earth.
  791. Money:
  792. Winning the money game through intelligent, enjoyabl
  793. e, and loving service is a method of spiritual
  794. purification. You rewards in life,
  795. both tangible and intangible, are directly proportional to the quality and
  796. quantity of service that you render to your fellow beings on this planet. See Chapter 15 for more on money.
  797. The revelations and freedom that will be inspired in you as a result of practicing these thirteen simple and
  798. natural spiritual purification practices have the power
  799. to realize heaven on Earth. Your personal perfection
  800. has been waiting for you throughout all eternity. Thes
  801. e spiritual purification exercises will open you up so
  802. you can let it in. They will enable you to release all of your negativity. They are both fun and enlightening.
  803. Water and Air Purification:
  804. The following purification is to be done in solitude. Twice a day, repeat the
  805. process below.
  806. 1. Fill the bathtub with water.
  807. 2. Start a connected breathing rhythm, inhaling and exhaling through your nose.
  808. 3. Place one foot into the water while breathing.
  809. 4. Continue breathing until physical
  810. and emotional changes are integrated.
  811. 5. Place the other foot into the water and continue
  812. breathing until changes are in
  813. tegrated. For example,
  814. some people have warm or cold flashes.
  815. 6. Sit sown in the tub and continue breathing until cha
  816. nges are integrated. (At this point, you may notice
  817. that the exhale is full of excretory material.)
  818. 7. Continue breathing until the ex-hale be
  819. comes lighter, more balanced and mores free.
  820. Thought is the smallest particle of the universe. Thought
  821. creates atoms. Thought is also the biggest thing in
  822. the universe. Thought creates and surrounds galaxies.
  823. Thought is not the source of truth, but the chief
  824. executive of truth. It is essential
  825. to master your thoughts. Unconscious and negative thoughts accumulate
  826. into emotions, which can cause the body organs to
  827. malfunction. Negative thoughts and emotions cause
  828. tension, misery, and pain, which not only kill the body but
  829. also destroy our joy of life and therefore our will to
  830. live. Everybody who dies is killed
  831. by thoughts. Our thoughts and habits are
  832. manifesting our body the way it
  833. is right now. When we master a thought, we master
  834. a result. It is personal power. Obviously to be a
  835. conscious master takes most people hundreds of year
  836. s. The traditional practice of physical death and
  837. reincarnation is a needless interruption in our learning
  838. process. People demonstrate in ordinary daily life
  839. that they can suspend natural body
  840. processes, control them, change them
  841. , and cause them, in all kinds of
  842. miraculous ways. Our present-time creative power can fo
  843. rever enter into the lows and processes of nature
  844. and alter them by pure intention. Life becomes most stress-free when we don't have to deal with
  845. supernatural energies and are living in harmony with
  846. our ordinary divine and human nature. We misuse our
  847. mind even more than our body by disrespect for or to
  848. tal ignorance of the power of thought. Thought is
  849. omnipotent, except for the pure life Energy, which empow
  850. ers thought. To build a human body directly out of
  851. pure energy with thought is the ultimate level of ma
  852. stery. To do this, we have to master our ability to
  853. manifest thought into physical form. This is not diffi
  854. cult. Our thoughts have a natural tendency to manifest
  855. into form. We only have to control the content of our th
  856. inking---all our thoughts, a
  857. ll the time. Jesus called it
  858. "watching.
  859. Fire and the Physical Immortality Machine: In the yoga tradition, this practice is called Panchagni, the five
  860. fires. Four fires are built, one at each corner of a square
  861. about three or four meters apart. The yogi sits in
  862. the middle of the fires and stares at the sun, which is the fifth fire. A yogi will practice this day after day until
  863. he or she can look at the moon all night. The full form of
  864. this practice is of course very advanced. Some one
  865. brings meals to the yogi, if necessary. I've done the five
  866. fires a few times with a group. We each sit in the
  867. center for an hour or more while the others are feed
  868. ing and tending to the fires. It is a very powerful
  869. practice. It cleans the energy body so quickly and thoroughly that we dubbed it the
  870. "physical immortality
  871. machine."
  872. This is another exception in which I can enjoy fire with other people. Because when I commit a
  873. whole day I go through a complete energy cycle with
  874. the pain of the group members and we all feel great
  875. by the end of the experience. Mastering food takes ten to twenty years of practice. Trying to do it too rapidly
  876. can make you insane and very
  877. sick. It can bring to the surface so much pain that you might try to kill
