  16. 1. What are you up for?
  17. -----
  18. 1. Mmm... how about some tea?
  19. 2. Hoji tea.
  20. -----
  21. 1. Fine.
  22. 2 nb. Mitsuzuri Ayako Ponders. [TN: doujin name]
  23. 3. I came to see Sakura about something, // but Emiya was the only one home.
  24. -----
  25. 1. I had said goodbye and turned to the door to leave,
  26. 2. but he then told me that she'd be home soon.
  27. -----
  28. 1. Emiya then let me in, so I decided to make myself at home...
  29. 2. ...And now I'm just kind of waiting around for her.
  30. -----
  31. 1. But this is kind of an exciting scenario, right?
  32.
  33. 4
  34. 1. A man and a woman, alone together... // It's pretty natural that something might happen between us, right?
  35. 2. I mean, // that always happens in manga.
  36. -----
  37. 1 nb. Might as well get ready for dinner, too.
  38. 2. Nah, nothing will happen.
  39. -----
  40. 1. That's just manga, after all. Not real life!
  41. 2. Even if it's JUST the two of us together... // We're both pretty sensible people.
  42. -----
  43. 1. And one of us just happens to be super strait-laced.
  44.
  45. 5
  46. 1. And he's already got plenty of girls varying in age and location.
  47. 2. Even if he is in the most enviable position in the world for a man, this is still the old stick-in-the-mud, Emiya Shirou.
  48. 3 nb. It's kind of appalling.
  49. -----
  50. 1. He's probably immune at this point...
  51. 2. ...to a woman's charms.
  52. -----
  53. 1 nb. Womanly charm...
  54. -----
  55. 1 nb. Womanly charm, huh...
  56. 2 nb. Siiigh...
  57. -----
  58. 1. I wonder if I have any charm?
  59.
  60. 6
  61. 1. It's not like I'm lacking self-confidence, but...
  62. 2 nb. Hmmmmm
  63. 3. When I'm put next to a lineup like that [TN: the other girls], I feel like I don't have any real outstanding characteristics or qualities to call my own.
  64. -----
  65. 1. Nothing's really coming to mind...
  66. 2 nb. Maybe this house is already full.
  67. -----
  68. 1. Ah...
  69. -----
  70. 1. Maybe this world's missing a girl who dresses really casually...
  71. -----
  72. 1. Wh-What in the world am I doing?! I'm in someone's house, for God's sake!
  73. 2 nb. Oh, it's finally boiling.
  74. 3. Am I some sort of slut?! An exhibitionist?!
  75. -----
  76. 1. ...This is just how I am when I'm near Emiya.
  77. 2 nb. Sigh...
  78. 3. When I'm alone with him, I just can't keep my cool.
  79.
  80. 7
  81. 1. It's not like // there's some sense of a malicious,
  82. 2. "pheromone vs pheromone"-like instinctive battle of the sexes in the air,
  83. 3. or anything.
  84. -----
  85. 1. Yet, when I start to think of stuff like that...
  86. 2. a feeling of unease starts to sprout amid my usual calm.
  87. 3. And I'm uncomfortable with the fact that I don't hate it!
  88. -----
  89. 1. As a woman, I know it's just not like that!
  90. -----
  91. 1. The woman deep inside me is speaking to me...
  92. 2. Gaah! // Maybe I need to install a purer heart instead...
  93.
  94. 8
  95. 1. Here you go, Hoji tea.
  96. 2 nb. Careful, it's hot.
  97. 3. O-Oh, thanks.
  98. -----
  99. 1. Boy, is it warm out today, huh?
  100. 2. Right? I didn't even have to turn my heater on.
  101. -----
  102. 1. Ahh... it's so nice how Earth stops tugging on your wallet once in a while.
  103. 2. Hahah! You're silly, Emiya.
  104. -----
  105. 1. ...
  106. -----
  107. 1. ...There's no sign // that both of us are nervous.
  108.
  109. 9
  110. 1. ...Well, // Emiya and I are close friends, so things should be comfortable between us. // But sometimes, it's hard...
  111. -----
  112. 1. It's hard, but
  113. -----
  114. 1. that's totally why... I mean... How do I put it?
  115. 2. I wish there was some way between me, a woman, and him, a man...
  116. -----
  117. 1. to express
  118. -----
  119. 2. and to feel the expression of
  120. -----
  121. 1. some mutual feelings.
  122. 2. That's what I think.
  123.
  124. 10
  125. 1. What's up, Mitsuzuri? You're just staring at my face.
  126. 2. ...
  127. -----
  128. 1. No,
  129. 2. I guess you could say it's because...
  130. -----
  131. 1. I // love you,
  132. 2. Emiya.
  133. -----
  134. 1. There's not much to look at around here, so I figured your face would be the best thing to stare at.
  135. 2. At least it moves.
  136. 3. Uh-huh? // Maybe so.
  137. -----
  138. 1. ...I mean it.
  139.
  140. 11
  141. 1. C'mon, think about it deeper! Search for the hidden meaning!
  142. 2 nb (loooong). Gaaaaaaaah.
  143. 3. At least react or something! You should react when I gaze intently at you!
  144. -----
  145. 1. But I guess I'm not really reacting either.
  146. 2. I'm too used to this distance between us.
  147. -----
  148. 1. How did I get settled into a rut like this?
  149. 2. ...
  150. -----
  151. 1 nb. Oh... that's it.
  152. 2 nb. Maybe...
  153. -----
  154. 1 nb. I just have to jump out of the rut.
  155.
  156. 12
  157. 1. Emiya... // y'know the suspension bridge effect?
  158. 2. Huh? Ohh, // yeah, I've heard of it.
  159. -----
  160. 1. Weelll, uhh... wh-when two people fall into a rut, you've gotta find that spark again.
  161. 2 (top-left). (Tripping over her words)
  162. 3. A rut...? [note: he actually repeats the "rut" bit but imo this leads into the next line better]
  163. -----
  164. 1. You mean like a married couple?
  165. 2. Y-Yeah, kinda like that.
  166. -----
  167. 1. You can't just play the same pattern of pieces in Tetris every day, right?! // Like, there's a certain thrill to changing your tactics with the long piece, right?! Like that!
  168. 2. What am I even saying?!
  169. -----
  170. 1 nb. Talking won't work...
  171.
  172. 13
  173. 1. Here,
  174. -----
  175. 1. when I do this... // do I seem different at all to you, Emiya?
  176. 2. Different...?
  177. 3. Do I // not look different?
  178. -----
  179. 1. S-See... I'm so much closer to you than usual.
  180. 2. Now you can feel how... warm I am, and... you can smell me.
  181. 3. U-Uh, well...
  182. -----
  183. 1. So...
  184. 2. I know we just talk about nothing all the time, but...
  185.
  186. 14
  187. 1. when I do this... // D-Does it... change how you see me at all?
  188. 2. No, no, no! I'm being too sudden for him!
  189. -----
  190. 1 nb. Ohgodohgodohgod...
  191. 2 nb. I swear, my heart's gonna burst...
  192. -----
  193. 1. M-...
  194. -----
  195. 1. Maybe... // you might be mistaken.
  196. -----
  197. 1. Huh? ...Huh?
  198. 2. Uh... no, uh... you see.
  199.
  200. 15
  201. 1. I pulled a bit of an underhanded trick.
  202. 2. Wha...?
  203. -----
  204. 1. 'Cause I... wanted to spend the day with you, Mitsuzuri.
  205. 2. What?!
  206. -----
  207. 1. That's why I stopped you when you tried to leave. // I even told you Sakura would be back soon.
  208. 2. Then...
  209. 3. ...
  210. 4. Then Emiya...
  211. -----
  212. 1. But... uh. // It's true that she is coming back soon.
  213. -----
  214. 1. So, // I think we're gonna have to stop here... // No matter how much we... love...
  215. 2. ...!!
  216.
  217. 16
  218. 1. Really though, Mitsuzuri, it's gonna be a problem if we don't pull ourselves apart now.
  219. 2. ?
  220. 3. Or else I might start acting impulsively...
  221. 4. !
  222. 5. O-Okay...
  223. -----
  224. 1. I'm hoooome!
  225. -----
  226. 1. ...
  227.
  228. 17
  229. 1. Um... Th-Then, Emiya...
  230. -----
  231. 1. N-Next time, maybe we... // can be alone together again?
  232. -----
  233. 1. ... // It's a good thing I got away when I could.
  234. 2. Ahaha! // Silly.
  235. -----
  236. 1. The result was totally different from what I expected...
  237. 2. But that was definitely // a good thing.
  238. -----
  239. 1. But seriously...
  240. 2. ?
  241. -----
  242. 1. Was that really the time to bring up Tetris?
  243. 2. Wha--?! // C-Come on, cut me some slack! I was desperate at the time!
  244. 3. It's fine, I got what you meant.
  245. 4. Just forget I said anything!
  246.
  247. 18
  248. AFTERWORD
  249. Hello and nice to meet you. I'm Fue.
  250.
  251. Thank you for reading "Mitsuzuri Ayako Ponders." [TN: or use the JP name, idc]
  252. How'd you like it? I hope it was a fun little ride.
  253.
  254. So, about this Mitsuzuri book. At first, I was making a Mitsuzuri daki for COMIC 1's first edition.
  255. But as I was making it, I thought to myself,
  256.
  257. "Why IS Mitsuzuri in such an immodest pose, anyway?"
  258.
  259. And a crazy idea occurred to me. So I figured, while I'm at it, maybe if I have a decent amount of time between jobs...
  260. Thus, this little extra story was born.
  261.
  262. A story of Mitsuzuri's internal monologue, which turned out to be entirely mistaken.
  263.
  264. The two of them have a heart-to-heart that ends with the revelation that the Shirou that Mitsuzuri imagined wasn't even close to the true one.
  265. That's how I would've liked a Mitsuzuri route to end up -- just my crazy idea.
  266.
  267. Often, when I'm courageous, I wish for some kind of reward. Of course, that's never really the case, but I wanted her to have her reward this time.
  268. And I wanted Shirou to be able to enjoy his youth a bit longer with Mitsuzuri.
  269.
  270. Well, I still think about it anyway even with it already being 2016.
  271. Who knows, maybe we'll get to see Mitsuzuri in FGO or something again one day.
  272.
  273. Anyway, sorry, as always, to bother you with my long, senseless afterwords. I'll end it here.
  274.
  275. Special thanks to TYPE-MOON -- the creators of Fate -- and you all, my readers!
  276. I hope we get the chance to meet again.
  277.
  278. 2016/05/01 Fue
