Mike and Raine

Tox: (10:00:28 AM) Tox: "I know of at least one more. /More/ than one more if this monk is to be believed." Mike pulls out the worn leatherbound journal he'd been reading for the past...as long as Raine's known Mike.
[08:56am] Tox: (10:01:48 AM) Alivi: Raine looks at Mike, "I see..." Raine frowns "However they are not like The God.... they might just be very powerful supernaturals."
[08:56am] Tox: (10:02:43 AM) Alivi: Raine is in denial.
[08:56am] Tox: (10:03:41 AM) Tox: "Who is /The/ God?" Mike counters. "Why should your God be any more objectively true than any other?"
[08:59am] Alivi: "I am not…." Raine sighs, "This world is stranger with each passing year." He still doesn't seem entirely convinced that there are other Gods.
[08:59am] Tox: "No..." Mike shakes his head. "It's not that the world's stranger, it's more that you're pulling back more of the curtains hiding it from everyone else."
[09:00am] Alivi: Raine looks at Mike, "Maybe."
[09:02am] Tox: "I mean, look at it this way. Werewolves -- and other werecreatures for that matter -- have existed for....thousands, tens of thousands of years. But they've worked to keep themselves hidden from the public eye, and I only learned about 'em when I was turned."
[09:03am] Alivi: Raine sighs, "Still hard…"
[09:06am] Alivi: "I feel like this is going to destroy any of my beliefs I used to have."
[09:06am] Tox: "Nobody ever said it was gonna be easy," Mike agrees. "It's good to have people to help you through it and tell you what you need to know -- it's really, really rough if you've got nobody. And...yeah, it probably will, at that. I used to be an atheist, myself."
[09:09am] Alivi: "No one told me really anything, no one said it would be easy or hard. Just… to go here and join them. While I am glad I have some people around… I guess I just wish I had answers." Raine looks over to Mike, "So you believe in God or "Gods" now?"
[09:11am] Tox: "Well....I'm convinced that they exist now. Both the Judeo-Christian God, and *my* God. The God of my....people, I guess you'd say. Werewolves." Mike waggles the journal. "Some werewolf monk wrote this, talking about Hircine and a couple of the other Gods."
[09:13am] Alivi: "…great..."
[09:14am] Tox: "What?" Mike tilts his head.
[09:16am] Alivi: "Just…" Raine sighs finding the words is hard, "If there….are….other gods….just….I don't know…" he frowns.
[09:17am] Tox: "Then you're not sure if what you believe is really the 'right' thing anymore?"
[09:18am] Alivi: "Well I know what I believed is partly true… just there I guess is more… then again the Bible and church never mention werewolf or people who are able to manipulate ice." He shrugs. "To be honest while it makes some sense. I do not know what exactly to call such things anymore."
[09:19am] Tox: "Call them? What do you mean?"
[09:20am] Alivi: "What words to use…."
[09:22am] Tox: Mike tilts his head. "Well, it'll come to you in time."
[09:25am] Alivi: "I am sure."
[09:26am] Tox: "So what're your thoughts on the case so far?"
[09:31am] Alivi: "This one?" Raine sighs, "Well something is definitely killing at an alarmingly fast rate. I am just not familiar with …the….monster?" Raine avoids having to pronouce the strange word.
[09:34am] Tox: Mike nods. "Yeah...Satyana seemed quite disturbed by it, and nothing much fazes /her/..."
[09:37am] Alivi: "I can tell…" Raine looks at the files, "I really never done investigation before…I also think our contact is…. strange… he seemed to have drank a lot…."
[09:37am] Alivi: "Of course after seeing the bodies…I want to drink as well..."
[09:40am] Tox: "I understand the feeling." Mike shudders slightly. "As for our contact, he's trying very hard to be the detective noir stereotype. I wouldn't be surprised if he smokes cheap cigarettes."
[09:41am] Alivi: "Noir....?"
[09:42am] Tox: Mike thinks. "Literally, it's the French word for 'black,' but in context...it means a work that's characterized by cynicism and sexual motivation."
[09:43am] Alivi: "…I see..."
[09:45am] Tox: Mike sighs and leans back. "I'll be glad when this is over."
[09:46am] Alivi: "Same, I have a feeling this will be difficult to accomplish."
[09:47am] Tox: "It's hardly ever easy."
[09:49am] Alivi: "I know..."
[09:53am] Tox: "Thanks, by the way. For making me stop to think in Russia."
[09:57am] Alivi: Raine looks over to Mike somewhat surprised. "I am glad you listened."
[10:00am] Tox: Mike nods, pensive. "When I...become one with Wolf like that, he and I...tend to share thoughts. Mindsets."
[10:01am] Tox: "I've...had some luck in toning him down, but..." He sighs, looking away.
[10:02am] Alivi: "I do not think many people have been raised as I have..."
[10:02am] Tox: "How do you mean?"
[10:03am] Alivi: "When I was being trained by my mentor, he would make me think of non-violent ways to accomplish things. Because we are supernatural we must use what we have wisely. He used to say violence is an easy way to accomplish things."
[10:06am] Tox: Mike nods. "He's right. It /is/ easy." Mike looks away again. "But...sometimes necessary."
[10:09am] Alivi: "Very rarely if you look at things the right way… but I agree necessary. During those times you need to use it, you do so. But to rely on it too much is never good."
[10:11am] Tox: Mike nods, sighing. "It's too easy to fall into the trap of always using violence to solve problems. But too often it creates more problems than it solves." He looks down. "I took an oath to protect and serve...and now look at what I do with Wolf."

[10:16am] Alivi: Raine leans back, "I am sure you can control it. You are a good person, just I think it can be difficult to see the right path sometimes, you have many people beside you to help."
[10:18am] Tox: Mike nods slowly, pensive. "Maybe...maybe this Quest the journal speaks of will help with that."
[10:22am] Alivi: "Quest?"
[10:23am] Tox: "Yeah. The journal speaks of a quest that the one who claims to be Hircine's 'true child' -- me -- has to undertake to grow closer to Hircine. I've already started it, and I think the Journal's about to tell me where to go for the first leg."
[10:26am] Alivi: "Huh…. so you are descended from a God…."
[10:29am] Tox: "Well, by way of....see, werewolf descendancy isn't like...say, a bloodline. It's by infection. My mate, the one who turned me, is my sire as well as my lover. It's /similar/ to how royalty works, I suppose -- I imagine if I were to start researching, I'd find that my 'bloodline' --" Mike makes airquotes -- "extends all the way back to Hircine himself."
[10:29am] Tox: "It's...uncommon as I understand it because the /other/ way to pass lycanthropy is by birth, but that breaks the line -- the child of a werewolf is not part of his family tree, as it were."
[10:31am] Alivi: "Confusing..."
[10:32am] Tox: "Yeah..." Mike chuckles. "I don't even understand it all myself."
[10:34am] Alivi: "Hey makes two of us..."
[10:36am] Tox: "I suppose it does, at that."
[10:37am] Alivi: Raine looks out towards the large windows overlooking the city. He seems to be thinking about a lot.
[10:39am] Tox: Mike turns with a smile, looking out over Chicago as well. "What was it like? In Finland? I'm guessing a lot slower-paced than this?"
[10:41am] Alivi: Raine looks over for a glance then back outside. "Very much so… I guess I should ask which part… the one where I was with my parents or when I was with Marko…."
[10:43am] Tox: "Either part, really."
[10:48am] Alivi: "Well…." Raine takes a breath. "It was cleaner… Air, environment, all that stuff. My parents and I lived together in our home near the forest, my father would often hunt, he worked as a shopkeeper. He would sell the things he caught along with other things he brought in from elsewhere. My mother helped around the shop occasionally I would too after school."
[10:49am] Tox: Mike nods. "That sounds like...a pretty nice way to live, actually."
[10:50am] Alivi: "It was…" Raine says with a smile, "Well until it ended, of course."
[10:50am] Alivi: he shrugs.

[10:52am] Alivi: "I mean it ended up alright. I just sometimes regret it."
[10:53am] Tox: "Well, of course. But...here's the thing, though. You wouldn't be the person you are today had that not happened."
[10:54am] Alivi: "Oh I am well aware…." Raine smiles.
[10:54am] Alivi: "Wouldn't be here and wouldn't have to be dealing with crazy murders."
[10:58am] Tox: "True. Wouldn't have met Marko, either."
[10:59am] Alivi: "Nope."
[10:59am] Tox: "So, ups and downs." He smile.s
[11:00am] Alivi: "Elo…Just life..."
[11:03am] Tox: "That too."
[11:03am] Alivi: "What was life like for you?"
[11:06am] Tox: "For me? Fast-paced and busy. Fremont was a busy town, and my parents were both important office types. I had...actually the same type of bully problems you did, except I was generally bullying the bullies. Getting them to lay off of people, etc. So, I was in trouble a fair bit, even though I tried to explain myself. And that's probably where my fascination with the police came from."
[11:08am] Alivi: "Really?" Raine seemed rather surprised.

[11:14am] Alivi: "I don't know… just seems weird to imagine you as… bullying others?"
[11:15am] Tox: "Oh, well -- like I said, I saw when other kids were being bullied, and I got the bullies to knock it off, that's all."

[11:18am] Tox: "After high school, I signed up with the police -- figured it was the best way to further help people."
