  1. Tips and Notes for new Yellow any% Glitchless Speed Runners
  2.
  3. Before Anything Else:
  4. - Join the Discord it's a great place to learn and get help: http://forums.pokemonspeedruns.com/viewtopic.php?t=492
  5. - Watch the WR video so you have a basic understanding of the run, check the leaderboard here: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnyellow
  6. - Get the Beginner Guide found here: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnyellow/guides
  7.
  8. Learning:
  9. - Don't stress learning RNG manipulation, the only manip that is required is getting the male nidoran encounter. Getting the nidoran in one ball toss is NOT needed and is much harder than just getting the encounter. I would recommend learning nidoran manip (you can try the yoloball but don't overdo it. If you miss it just try to catch it normally with your spare pokeballs), and ignoring all other manips until you know the route more.
  10. - Don't reset too early. Set a PB then if you even have a small chance of beating that time finish it out :D
  11. - Do races with other runners, races are the best way to improve quickly imo, the discord is a great place to find other runners to race.
  12. - Take safety strats, at the start finishing and learning is the most important part.
  13. - Try to think through some of the run choices. Wonder why we heal before fighting misty, but you can't before Surge even if you are low.
  14. - Practicing late game is important. Many new runners get the early down by doing runs but struggle on good runs in the late game. Utilize practice saves (Practice saves are in the discord)
  15.
  16. Extra Save Strats:
  17. I will do ALL of these when you start. Some if not all of these are in the beginner guide but these are great for getting through runs
  18. - Save for the following:
  19. - Before the Light Year trainer in Brock's Gym
  20. - Before Misty
  21. - Before Surge
  22. - Before Silph Rival Fight
  23. - Before Koga
  24. - Before Blaine
  25. - Before Giovanni Gym Fight
  26. - Before Each E4 Fight
  27. - Before Champ Fight
  28. - Extra Centers:
  29. - After you heal at celedon city, you can basically heal there whenever you dig out of a building. It's not a terrible time loss if you are really low and need to heal. For example you can heal after you dig out of silph tower, which is actually goodish if you are low and only have 3 super potions.
  30. - Another great 'fast heal' is mom heal. After you fly to Pallet town talk to your mom for a fastish heal.
  31. - There is a hidden Nugget here: https://www.extratricky.com/pokeworld/rb/121#12,2 Sell that in celledon city so you have extra healing items. Getting this will make sure you don't have to take extra centers, BUT is pretty slow if everything is going well. This is one of the first strats I would start skipping when you get use to running.
