I'm a cynic

It's true

I believe in the good of others

Although, this is an instinctual belief

A default opinion, a simple base

It's always challenged by my skeptical side

I don't really need anyone else

And yet, I long for the greatest love that exists

But I never reach for it

I'm respectable

I cannot let people know who I really am

Because I am stronger on my own

Solitude prevents humans from hurting each other

I have felt the sky, if only briefly

I loved it, but then it left me

Left me in despair and doubt

Right now, I only want to stay down here

Far away from the sky

I want to merge with the cliffs

Stay cold forever, crowned by sharp edges

Friendly and presentable

But never vulnerable

Never naive enough to let anyone else inside

Never again

I don't want to love anyone new

Not until I can finally feel the sky again
