- What is the problem with this sentence?
- The reason she chose the job was not to make money.
- - This is ambiguous between two possible interpretations:
- 1 She chose the job in order not to make money.
- 2 She chose the job not in order to make money (but for some other reason).
- There are other ways to rewrite the sentence to clarify the true meaning (which is number 2):
- The reason she chose the job wasn’t to make money.
- She didn’t choose the job to make money.
- Money wasn’t the reason she chose the job.
- (We can say that rewording the sentence disambiguates the meaning.)

- When explaining the purpose of something:
- for + noun
- to + verb
- ---
- A good response will have coherence and unity.
- coherence = the logical connections between all your ideas are clear and uninterrupted
- unity = all of your ideas are connected back to the main point
