- “I’m strong… I’m strong…”
- That’s the mantra I kept on saying during that stormy night. The sound of explosions littered the area, artillery shells kept ringing in my ears, and all over, I could hear their cries and screams of pain. I could hear their anguish and regrets.
- “No… I hate this!”
- “I guess fast isn’t all…”
- “I wanted to run with everyone some more...”
- All over, I could see death and destruction. My feet hovered over the black waters as I could see shrapnel skid across it.
- “I’m strong… I’m strong…”
- To be truthful… I’m not.
- I was weak, ever since I was a kid. I was sick with a terminal disease. I wasn’t even going to see my sixteenth birthday. Though, my father fixed that. I never knew what he did to save my life, but I do remember that it had to do with why I’m here now.
- I saw my friend, barely standing up as the enemy aircraft flew to her and fired a missile at her. With one scream, I skied across the water and punched the missile. I jumped up. I followed my instinct of what to do next. Extend my right leg to the side and kick the craft. I never knew why I did this. The aircraft blew up and I landed.
- “The Admiral has sounded a retreat!” One of the women said. Several of them fell back, away from enemy fire. My friend tugged onto my shoulder.
- “Hiro, we have to go!” She told me. I looked to her and her violet eyes.
- “No… Go, now!” I pushed her out of the way as another missile attempted to hit her. I saw a bright flash of light.
- You ever wondered how much pain it is getting hit by an explosive? Well, assuming you don’t get killed? Think getting hit by a car. On fire. So hard it tears into your stomach. I clutched onto whatever I had left for ‘armor’. I never knew why my father or anyone gave me that, but it was this night that convinced me of why:
- To protect my fleet.
- “Why aren’t you sinking!?” A woman with long white hair and a flaming blue eye told me.
- “Because… I am strong! I am… I am…!”
