The defaults in Compiz are not terrible, but they could definitely be better.  This effects all distros downstream, and I've tried unsuccessfully to fix it and make changes in both Mint and Devuan, but it seems we need to upgrade the defaults in Debian and then they will just propagate down from there.

Basically, the important changes are minor, but make a very big usability difference.
For one, in some downstream distros shortcuts are broken by compiz somehow, for example alt+ctl T won't open a terminal any more.

The desktop cube settings are pretty ugly by default.  It doesn't take much to make them a lot better.

A) There should be some zoom out when desktop cube is enabled.
B) The cube looks a lot cleaner with transparent top and bottom caps.
C) Having a bit of opacity by default in mouse driven rotate cube is another default that would be easy to implement and make quite a usability improvement.
D) Enabling 3d windows by default makes desktop cube rotate a lot more engaging.
E) The default skybox is pretty ugly.  Another easy fix.
F) The speed of cube rotate, (as well as the minimize/maximize animations) could definitely be bumped up.  By default they are a bit slow.

Also, a lot of the shortcuts seem to be changed across distros, and there used to be a very clear standard.  For example SHFT+SUPER + Scroll for enhanced zoom is broken in some downstream distros, and I've seen several varying compete default controls that don't match what has been the convention for more than decades.

Some of the MATE integration is a little off as well, but that might be a MATE issue.
