  6.
  7. sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.2.0-5-generic

  21.
  22.
  23. apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r)
  24.
  25. cd linux-*
  26.
  27. cp /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/Module.symvers .
  28.
  29. make oldconfig && make prepare && make scripts

  36.
  37.
  38.
  39. Load module dependencies, unload old, load new:
  40.
  41. sudo modprobe -v nouveau
  42.
  43. sudo rmmod nouveau
  44.
  45. sudo insmod drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko
  46.
  47.
  48.
  49. Make the module work across reboots:
  50.
  51. sudo cp drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/
  52.
  53. sudo update-initramfs -u
  54.
  55.
  56.
  57. This won't persist between kernel upgrades, for that use DKMS
