  1. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: What are you playing on, it is emulator?
  4. A: No, I'm playing on a DS with a capture board from 3dscapture.com/ds
  5.
  6. Q: What is the current World Record?
  7. A: http://www.speedrun.com/pmdredblue
  8.
  9. Q: Why do you choose Skitty?
  10. A: Skitty is fucking great. The most important moves are defense drops (Tail Whip/Leer), as they are needed to hurt bosses. Skitty has access to one, and is put over the line by being Normal type itself, so it's moves get STAB. It also has access to Attract, which can complete immobilise pokes, which is also useful for some bosses, and for tough situations to escape out of
  11. Q: Why is your partner Squirtle?
  12.
  13. A: Squirtle also gets Tail Whip, which is very useful to link for bosses. Bubble also comes in handy for a few slows, but mainly it's that he gets Tail Whip and 2 other attacks by level 7 that make him stand out.
  14.
  15. Q: Why are you quicksaving in just about every dungeon?
  16. A: By quicksaving in a dungeon and reloading, the maps become predictable in their nature. It matters from what floor you do the quicksave, so on some Dungeons you might see me do it more than once, to manipulate a better pattern. After that, the floors are generated at the same point, so you might see me doing some funky things like going backwards and forwards to manipulate enemies that you can't actually see
  17.
  18. Q: So is there still RNG in this run?
  19. A: Yeah, there is. The first floor of every dungeon can't be manipulated, which means your PP, Experience, and also obviously the first floor itself are still not consistent. And neither the missions that you have to do, or their rewards. Tiny Woods also isn't manipulated at all because it's slower on average to do so.
  20.
  21. Q: But this run is a lot more execution heavy than I might think?
  22. A: Yeah, very much so. In fact I'm going to have to do multiple runs of this game just to get myself to be better at the execution, because it's fast, and there's a lot of it. To memorise all the patterns at high speed will take some time.
  23.
  24. Q: Where do you expect to make up time?
  25. A: I changed the route pretty drastically in order to compensate for a faster run. In the past, I forced Skitty to get to level 15 before Magma Cavern to learn Doubleslap to get through the last 2 dungeons quicker. Now, if everything goes perfectly I don't reach 15 for the whole game. To compensate, I pick up a Facade TM in Lapis Cave (and a Link Box in Great Canyon). After that point, al the attacking is different (and faster). I also routed a lot of the floors to be slightly faster. The route overall is prob 2-3 minutes faster, but I can make p way more with really good Floor 1 luck, and solid execution.
  26.
  27. Q: I just heard you orgasming like crazy and I couldn't see why...are you crazy?
  28. A: Yes
  29.
  30. Q: Isn't this a luck based run?
  31. A: Yes, there is luck involved. Yes, I am still running it. I love pokemon and will run it regardless :)
