  5. 1. First unlock dev settings and enable OEM unlock

  7. Settings> about phone> software Info
  8. then tap on build number 7 times in a row and it will say dev settings unlocked
  9. a new menu will appear under settings
  10. go in that menu and click to enable OEM unlock
  11.  
  12. 2.Install samsung usb drivers if you havent already
  13.  
  14. download and run executable from here

  26. Extract tar.md5 file from CF AUTO zip

  28. 4. Put phone into download mode
  29.  
  30. From a powered-off state, press and hold the volume down, home, and power buttons simultaneously until you
  31. see a warning message—but like it says,just press the volume up button to enter
  32. Download Mode.

  34. Connect usb to computer once in download mode, not before.
  35.  
  36. 5. Once Odin is running,check that the box under the "ID:COM" field is blue which means it odin recognizes phone
  37. Leave all of the options selected exactly as they are, then click the "AP" button
  38. Navigate to md5 file and select it
  39. CLick start
  40. Phone will root and android will reboot
  41. IIRC this installs a root manager app for you i think supersu but if not download supersu from play store and verify root

  43. PART 2 - Custom Recovery

  45. 1. Download twrp for g950f here

  48. 2. Open Odin again and put phone in downloiad mode again and reconnect usb
  49.  
  50. 3. Once again click AP and navigate to the .tar file and open it then press start
  51.  
  52. 4. Recovery should flash and it may reboot to recovery but i think it just reboots
  53.  
  54. 5. From powered off state press and hold the Bixby and volume up buttons, then press the power button.
  55. Let go of the power once the phone turns on, while still keeping the Bixby and volume up buttons pressed.
  56. Let go of the rest of the buttons when you see twrp splash screen

  58. PART 3: Custom rom and gapps install

  71. Gapps is google apps in case you didnt know and is mandatory as it contains google framework and playstore

  75. go to opengapps and select 7.1 for nougat or 8.0 for oreo roms. 8.1 gapps is available unofficially but i suggest you stick with nougat for now as the roms
  76. are more stable
  77. download it and do not extract

  79. 1. Download a rom and appropriate gapps file from above
  80.  
  81. 2. First take a full backup of all partitions by clicking on backup in twrp and making sure all partitions are selected.
  82. If something goes wrong you can restore everything easy.
  83. 3. Navigate to wipe in twrp. It may be possible to wipe without removing all your media files by just sliding to "factory reset"
  84. however i dont recommend this option because usually it does not work when switching to a whole new base like touchwiz to aosp but
  85. you can try if you want and restore backup if it goes wrong or just backup files before hand.
  86. To be safe however click full wipe and type yes.
  87. 4. Navigate back to main menu and click install and navigate to rom zip file on sd card.
  88. clickchange storage and select external sd or navigate up to root folder and then into external sd folder either will work
  89. select rom
  90. 5. Install gapps zip file the same way
  91. 6. Reboot
