- The knight was angered then; with both hands he swung his lance and gave the boy such a blow across the shoulders with the shaft that he rocked forward over his horse’s neck. The pain of the blow incensed the boy. He aimed straight for the knight’s eye, and let fly his javelin so fast that the knight neither heard nor saw it; it went clean through the eye and into the brain, and out through the nape of the neck the blood and brain came spilling. The knight’s heart burst with agony, and he pitched over and crashed to the ground, stone dead.
