  1. Pokemon Yellow any% Glitchless FAQ!
  2.
  3. Q: How are you playing/recording this?
  4. A: I'm using the Gameboy Player add-on to the Gamecube which allows me to play and capture the feed on a CRT!
  5.
  6. Q: So you're using a Gamecube Controller?
  7. A: Actually I'm using my SP which is connected to the Gamecube via a link cable!
  8.
  9. Q: What's the WR/your aim for this category?
  10. A: The WR is 1:53:55 by Pokeguy. My aim initially is to get Sub 2! https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnyellow/full_game
  11.
  12. Q: What exactly does Glitchless mean?
  13. A: Gen 1 pokemon is very broken, and there are glitches such as save corruption and trainer fly which completely break the game. All of those are banned in this. A full detailed list is on the rules page here https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnyellow/full_game
  14.
  15. Q: Why do you use Nidoking and what are it's stats?
  16. A: Your starter (Pikachu) is unfortunately very bad, Nidoking is a beast of a pokemon, especially in Gen 1 where it's move pool is insane. We manipulate the starter to catch one with very good stats. Out of 15, it always has 15 Attack, 9-11 Defense, 14 speed, 13-15 Special.
  17.
  18. Q: Why didn't you get encounters in Mt. Moon?
  19. A: There's a manipulation we use to get rid of Mt. Moon encounters, however I have to do perfect inputs with no error and no pause. Here's a map which shows the path I have to take and the inputs I have to do (Green means A press) https://imgur.com/a/DAvE14v
  20.
  21. Q: What is "redbar"?
  22. A: When your pokemon's health is very low, it turns red and a jingle plays. The game can't load certain other sounds while this jingle plays, which makes things faster. In yellow, this includes level up jingles, move learning jingles, and outgoing cries from pokemon.
  23.
  24. Q: What do you mean when you say "range"?
  25. A: When a pokemon does damage, the amount of damage it does is not exact due to how the damage calculation works. Sometimes you'll get a low roll where less damage is done, and sometimes you'll get a high roll where more damage is done. This means there'll be times where a pokemon "might" die from an attack depending on if I get a high roll or a low roll. A similar thing happens when a pokemon attacks me.
