I am almost certain the cards are deliberately doing this because I did it out of order in hopes for the revised FoZ jump. Fortunately, I can always go back and revise this jump later when the time comes!

Trouble constantly finds me? No surprise. Frail, though? Well... even if this affected all of my power equally instead of simply the physical, it still wouldn't be very fair, considering how much power I have. Unless I need to prevent a continent from falling from the sky.

Well, it doesn't hurt to have a magical focus beyond my gauntlet. It'll be good to use to learn the local magic before I start overpowering it.

The first thing I become aware of is a cloud of dust and the tittering of children. The dust is good to use for cover; instead of being flat on my back, I quickly get to my feet and equip armor - in fact, I could be mistaken for a golem, were one not familiar with the source of this power armor. It's not on par with standard issue space marine armor, but it's just short of it. When the smoke clears, there's a seven foot tall obsidian and gold figure staring down onto a short girl with pink hair.

After making a show of looking at the others, whose amusement has rapidly faded, I look down to her and kneel on one knee. "My name is Cristobol Miguel de Toledo. I ask of you, are you my master?" I inquired formally, voice filtered through the suit's vocoder.

She stammered a moment, before collecting herself and nodding firmly. "Yes. Yes I am." And after a momentary delay, "My name is Louise Francoise le Blanc de la Valliere. Pentagon of the five elements, bless this humble creature and make it my familiar."

A burning sensation could be felt on my right hand, and as I lifted my gauntlet out of reflex, I could see it being etched into the armor as well. Regardless, due to having a pain tolerance higher than a newborn baby, I did not scream or lose consciousness when this occurred; I simply endured. As such, class was dismissed and I followed the pinkette back to her quarters. And all was well and good, until I removed my helmet.

"Wait. I thought you were a golem. You're... are you a knight? A commoner?" she asked, confused. Her visible confusion grew when, rather than setting the helmet down, it disappeared as I dismissed it to the warehouse.

"Oh, I've been a great many things, Louise of the Valliere," I replied. "A refugee, a soldier, a king... for the next ten years, I am your familiar."

"King- wait, ten years?! Being a familiar is supposed to last for the rest of my life!" she protested.

I began removing the rest of my armor, piece by piece. An act calculated to demonstrate my humanity to her. "I will be your familiar as long as I can, but in ten years I must leave this world. For that period of time I shall be at your disposal... after that, if you wish to remain with me, you are welcome to. Otherwise, I shall ensure you are taken care of."

She huffed and stomped a foot unhappily. "I thought you were a golem. You're just... practically a commoner!"

"Not quite," I told her. "As I said, I shall to ensure you're taken care of. If you wish to get to know each other... well, we've got all afternoon." A twitch of my wrist saw my wand appear, simple sleight of hand. "While I'm not going to advertise this particular item, if you'd like to compare notes academically instead, I'd be happy to do so."

As it turns out, pink hair stands out quite significantly when one's face pales to near-white. Louise swallowed, and very deliberately asked, "You have a wand? Are you a noble?"

I shook my head. "No, not currently. Then again, most worlds I've visited, nobility isn't tied to magic. Also, at the risk of heresy, you summoned a human because your element is Void and that's why you have such trouble casting."

"How-"

"Hold on just one second," I interrupted, reaching my hand out and moving it in empty space as if rummaging for something. "I know it was around here somewhere ... ah, here we go." I pulled a manga out of thin air and handed it to her, where she looked at the cover numbly.

"This is... me?"

I shook my head a bit. "No, it's a way some things -could- have gone," I told her as she began flipping through it. "You'll find it interesting. But you'll note my name is not Saito... while some things in there may come to pass, my goal is to look out for what is best for you. I'm not some clueless idiot. If you wish for me to keep up the facade for your classmates' sake I will happily do so, but otherwise... I shall be at your disposal."

The decade was interesting. The plot? Derailed immediately and irrefutably. Louise? She gave the most honest effort to reconcile with her family that she could, but short of mind control... without a war to prove herself, all of them aside from one were dismissive. At the end of my time, she chose to accompany me - as her friend, her mentor, and as the closest thing she ever had to a caring parent, I meant more to her than anyone else.

I may have gained a companion, but why do I feel so terrible about it?
