  1. >"It is necessary for me to leave for a few days. There is a convention in Chicago and I am required to attend." Lisa says as she wraps herself up in bedsheets and lights a cigarette.
  2. >"Oh, uh, cool. So, are you going to be staying at my place? Lori's? Hotel?" Lincoln holds one out too and she lights it.
  3. >"I will be staying at a hotel." Lisa states as she sets the lighter down on the side table.
  4. >"Let me know the address and I can swing by." He kisses Lisa's shoulder, putting his hand into her hair and pushes her face to turn towards his.
  5. >She giggles and gives him a kiss. "But you're going to need to stay here and take care of things for me."
  6. >"What? Why?" Lincoln groans.
  7. >"Lulu." Lisa turns back to the bed and snuggles up to Lincoln, stroking his chest with her fingers. "She's still upset that we moved. She much preferred her hatching nest in Arizona."
  8. >"Yeah. I can see that being the case." Lincoln says.
  9. >Lulu was one of the moodier children he had met. One minute she could be smiling and laughing, with her predator mouth, and the next she could be throwing a tantrum that shook the walls. Which was not comforting in a real volcano.
  10. >"Are you alright with that?"
  11. >"What? Yeah, I'm a little disappointed we don't get more 'us time' but this is really my favorite time with the kids. I just get to be a dad. It's been a while."
  12. >"When I return, we can spend a lot more time together."
  13. >"That sounds nice, Lisa. When are you leaving anyways?"
  14. > Lisa looks at her watch and then puts out her cigarette. "Right now."
  15. >She stands up and shouts, "Lulu! Come give mama kisses!"
  16. > Lulu swoops down from somewhere on bat-like wings and cuddles against her mother. Lisa gives her several exaggerated kisses.
  17. >"23? I need fresh clothes and take Lulu for a nap." Lisa says and a figure in a rubber suit and mask appears, Lincoln covers himself, takes the child and hands Lisa a small package.
  18. >Lisa fiddles with the package and it expands out, consuming Lisa, and then constricts down, leaving Lisa in something a kin to a catsuit.
  19. >The west wall of the room recedes into the floor, revealing a running helicopter and an open ceiling.
  20. >"Ta-ta, Lincoln!" Lisa says with a wave before getting on the helicopter.
  21.
  22. >Lincoln wakes up in the large King-sized bed the next day. 23 is standing over him.
  23. >He shrinks back before relaxing.
  24. >"Um, 23, right?" Lincoln remembers that he never introduced himself and his midwestern sensibilities kick in an d he reaches his hand out. "Lincoln Loud."
  25. >"I am aware. Breakfast will be served shortly. Please get dressed your oversight is required." 23 says before leaving the room.
  26. >"Uh, sure." Lincoln lets his hand fall.
  27.
  28. >Lincoln walks out with his trademark orange polo and jeans
  29. >"That will not do, sir." 23 says as he enters the dining room, a ponderously long room with a long black table with a dozen aluminum chairs on each side. Portraits of Lisa punctuate the walls.
  30. >"It won't?" Lincoln says looking down at his clothes.
  31. >"No. These garments are ill-fitting and will not protect you incase of accident or assassination attempts." 23 says as they take hold of the clothe with their fingers and feels the K-Mart on it.
  32. >"Assassination!?" Lincoln is shocked.
  33. >"You can't be too careful, sir. Here." 23 hands Lincoln a similar black box to the one they handed to Lisa the day before. "Your... lover has many enemies and they will stop at nothing."
  34. >"I'm not really into catsuits..." Lincoln imagines himself in the skintight suit that Lisa was incased in the day before and while he liked it on her, he isn't too interested on trying it on himself.
  35. >"There are other settings."
  36. >"Then why did she-
  37. >"Madam Loud is a firm believer in power stances. To show up in such a revealing costume would put her in a stronger position."
  38. >"Really? How do I work this?"
  39. >"There is a dial. Here, let me help you."
  40. >23 presses a few buttons, looks at Lincoln, then presses a few more buttons.
  41. >"Here you are." 23 hands the box back. "Hit the switch and it should be acceptable."
  42. >Lincoln hit the switch and the box begins to expand. He closes his eyes and, when he opens them, he is wearing a sharp black suit and an eyepatch.
  43. >"Um, why the eyepatch?" Lincoln says flipping up the flap of fabric, it feels expensive.
  44. >"To hide your identity and to be intimidating. Plus it makes you look like One-eyed Jack." 23 says with the first lilt of interest.
  45. >"Oh, you read Ace Savvy? I actually draw for-" Lincoln begins to say.
  46. >"I am aware. One-eyed Jack is the superior comic since his early 2010s renaissance." 23 says before turning away.
  47. >"Alright." Lincoln says.
  48. >"Take a seat. Breakfast will be served momentarily." 23 says. "I will retrieve young Lulu?"
  49. >"Uh, yes. Please." Lincoln says as he turns to take a seat.
