- So Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Originally known as "Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem" a crossover that people had some insane expectations for, myself included. Was shown off early 2015 and man were people upset. I decided to stay optimistic(If you can recall I made a hype video on youtube about that but it was mostly for Fates tbh lol) The game was going in an interesting direction a "Kingdom Hearts-esque" style which honestly I think is pretty darn cool! Make original characters for the games and have Fire Emblem and SMT characters take part in the story. What we did end up getting though and what a lot of people like to call it is "Persona x Fire Emblem" which actually isn't the case at all. Tokyo Mirage Sessions isn't Persona, Shin Megami Tensei or Fire Emblem. No the game has a clear audience this game is for the weebs, Fire Emblem characters are just in for the ride.
- Now knowing this I still stayed pretty optimistic, Once the game was released in Japan I watched streams and I have to say the gameplay is really fucking good, very Shin Megami Tensei-esque and it also utilizes Fire Emblem's Triangle system(Pre-Fates of course). So at the very least I can confirm the gameplay of the game is very fun and challenging like an SMT game. However as I watched some of the scenes it really became kinda odd and weird for me. Actually some of the shit I read made me feel a bit uncomfortable(One of the characters constantly talks about how big his "ochinchin" is), Tiki is a "singaloid"(Fuck you whoever decided this) in the game and there are a lot of random otakus in the game that call her their "waifu" really weird shit. ANYWAYS!
- Overall the game looks solid in terms of gameplay but everything else is kinda odd and out of place, I know Japan loves Idols but I don't think they want a Fire Emblem, SMT or Persona game about Idols, maybe as a side story but not as the main thing it really has no place. Western audiences really could give two shits about Japanese idols so I'm not sure why this is the path they decided to take.
- My feelings on the game: I'm glad it isn't a generic crossover but how the game looks now maybe it was best that way. The Western Localization kinda makes me upset, there is some "lewd" stuff that is censored but other stuff that isn't it lacks consistency. either censor it all or censor none of it. Also if you're gonna censor it don't just paint shit over the cleavage looks tacky. I'm not really happy with the removal of the hot spring DLC even though I don't give two shits about it, It's optional content that is just completely gone.
- If you want the game cool it has pretty neat gameplay, It has tons of Fire Emblem references from the classic games(So a small minority won't get it but that's okay!!!), Unfortunately if you are looking for SMT or Persona references the game lacks it, not even an appearance from well known characters like Louis, Igor(Not expected) and Yuriko. I will be playing the game I bought the Special Edition and will be talking about my full thoughts on the game once I beat every aspect of it. Thanks for reading!
