Local uncle tom Choi approaches, leaning heavily upon his staff. Energy oozes from the weapon, and his eyes focus narrowly upon the hostile Gehennan. There's a dull recognition in his eyes at his sight, somewhat familiar with the party.

That, or all Gehennans just looked the same. His staff bubbled, black tar oozing from what was once an incandescent brazier retained at it's heart. He didn't seem to pay any mind to Fuyuki, for reasons not clearly indicated.

"This ain' your clay, boy. This is my hunting grounds."

He could smell it.

"If Tanka wanted to hurt you. He would attack you like others. Tanka take woman to get rest." The man would say rather calmly. Actually he would hear the man and would then crack his neck.

"Well then" Pushing the girl to the side.

He would get in the others man face with a look of no fear.

The bubbling ooze stemming from the crozier's heart formed into a semi-permeable mass of flammable gel, which slid easily into his grasp. It was a crass approximation of a whip, able to retain a level of material composure. His head flicks to the side, briefly glancing over Fuyuki.

"Use this opportunity to try and run and I'll drag you back kicking and screaming. I warn you that I'll not be half as hell as gentle as Zaruma and Effigy were."

And then the length of that weapon bubbled, and shadowflame ruptured from the gel. Ethereal, cosmic energy pulsed through him and oozed an unnaturally great deal of energy. No more time was taken besides a last remark as he'd closed in with the flame-whip.

"When we're done, an' I've got my noose around you'll throat? I'll give you the opportunity to beseech Mother Moon for another shot at your poor excuse of a life."

It's barely five times that infernal whip made contact with flesh, but wherever it'd touched it seared through clothing and flesh and left it afflicted with a terrible rot. When Tanka tried to find space, he simply barrels in with a mana-suffused propulsion into another ground-rattling explosion of flame and starlight. Probably, it's more than a little hard to breathe without getting a lungful of smoke.

In the end, when Tanka is too tired to fight, the man approaches and twists the wrist of his own right hand to flick the whip, it's flaming tendril-tip dragging and scarring the earth where it touched. Maybe the gesture was supposed to be a display of would be capable of doing if he intended to cause permanent harm.

"Knew I remembered you from somewhere. Long time no see, Tanka. Last time we met, my friend and I took your arm. This time? I'm not takin' shit but pride."

He doesn't pursue if the man attempts to flee. There was a smile on his face, jovial and friendly; all the violence was in good fun, it seemed. Even if someone got hurt, it was incredibly unlikely that he'd break that jovial grin for more than a moment or two.

"Now scatter, 'less you're looking for an opportunity for some enlightenment. Man like you'd do well in the Father's works, I think; it's rare to find someone who /knows/ what they want."

Though Tanka still was up and about. He would get up from the pain. Fire and cosmic. It just needed a holy beam to engulf his body and take another arm.

He would hear something like a job offer.

Taking his hood off they would see his cheeks look like they were slash open. But it was a old scar.

The whip dissolves between his fingers, falling to nothing but slag that stained the grass a gray-brown. Choi's hand was splattered with soot and ash as refuse after the fact; that same, soot-stunned hand extended, as if to shake Tanka's own.

"I talked to another guy like you. Years ago. Good ambition, good strength, but stupid as a fuckin' rock. I went to him and I said, 'watch who you try to kill; find someone strong to keep an eye out for you' -- and, you know? For a while, he listened."

"Then, year later, he stopped. Got cocky. Attacked the wrong guy and all the world saw out of him after was a funny dance at the end of a rope and a little gurgle. Don' be like that guy."

"Instead, offer; work for me, work for Aetherius - kill, capture, beat whoever comes through that border. Make a name for yourself while you've got our protection. Hell - I'll help train you."

If the hand was taken, he'd aim to give the man a relatively powerful but magic-free handshake.

His hand falls from the grip after the strong handshake is shared. The man's hand sets to the side of his scalp, running armored fingers through locks of sweat and dirt-matted hair. A brief glance is directed north, towards Fuyuki.

"Now, girl. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you weren't trying to run away. So pray tell - why are you here?"
