—— "wait, i don't get it." - laid back, pacifistic
jeong hyorin is not stupid. but somehow, everyone just assumes she is anyway. if anything, this poor girl is just odd, and a little naive. like a leaf being pulled along by the autumn winds, hyorin goes with the flow and being easygoing is second nature to her. nothing seems to phase her, not even when her peers point fingers and call her dumb. hyorin will simply just smile, laugh and agree with them. this isn't to say optimism runs through her veins, but she doesn't see a point in refuting a claim when she knows her indifferent classmates will just ignore her protests and resume their childish name-calling the next day. to her, arguing back is just a waste of time.

you see, hyorin is a pacifist. she hates altercations and any form of drama. listening to people fight and argue is one of her biggest pet peeves. and this isn't because hyorin's a kind angel who shrinks at the sign of hostility - nah, this girl just thinks its loud, annoying and, frankly, a pain in the ass. this is why hyorin plays the role of judge and tries to mediate between any conflicts amongst her friends. her peers call her 'sweet', but the truth is just that she wants to fast-forward through the yells until they reach the much quieter resolution. likewise, if this girl ever offends anybody, she will always apologize first, even though she doesn't mean it 90% of the time (of course everyone thinks she's being genuine because she's /hyorin/.)

hyorin calls herself an old soul, only because she doesn't understand half the slang that her friends use today. dirty jokes are lost on her and half the time, she misses the punchline of a joke. it also doesn't help that she's always on another wavelength as well, so the majority of the time, she doesn't even hear the joke in the first place.

hyorin's that girl that will stare, with the utmost focus, on a person - and when her friends ask her why, she'll just say she was daydreaming and that stranger happened to be where she was looking. like a child, her mind will wander if the conversation doesn't affect her directly or if a reply triggers her imagination to go on a spree. because of her constant state of confusion, her friends often label her as 'naive' and 'innocent'

she doesn't particularly see herself as such, but she can't deny that she trusts a bit too easily. hyorin wants to see the best in people and she easily gives out second, third, fourth chances if someone begs for it. a people pleaser to the max, this girl is often walked all over and often needs her forthright friends to slap some sense into her.

it's a mix of her nonpartisan and non-offensive personality, but in such a society where people judge others without knowing them, hyorin doesn't want to be a part of that. especially since she knows first hand what it's like to be seen through a skewered lens. if there's a one percent chance that her loyalty can make a change in someone's life, then she'll extend a helping hand without hesitation.

jeong hyorin has no problems. she's always happy. right? well, most of the time, yes. i'm not going to say that deep down, she's heavily scarred and depressed, because she isn't. but she certainly does have her share of troubles that she never shows to anyone, not even her closest friends. hyorin has been perpetuating a happy-go-lucky image from day one, and she just thinks its too late for her to change. especially since she fears that no one will take her seriously.

while she may laugh off comments about her supposed stupidity, for once she just wants someone to call her interesting, or creative. because no matter how much she may smile, words can hurt as much as knives, and her confidence slowly chips away without anyone knowing it. when things grow too much to bear, she often just vents into a pillow or goes out for long runs until her lungs want to give out. they aren't particularly healthy, but she doesn't care, as long as it takes her mind off her worries.

if she were to call her life interesting, jeong hyorin would be flat-out lying. born as an only child to two loving parents, she never had to live through parental abuse or money troubles. her family was /fine/. they weren't wealthy, but it wasn't as if she had to worry about scrounging scraps of food from the streets. amongst the millions of people living in south korea, she did not stand out.

everything was boring, simple and mundane. as a child, she found her escape through fairytales and literature, and her mother would argue that this was the catalyst that led to her dreamy temperament today. definitely having suffered from what the japanese would call 'chuunibyou (中二病) ' or middle school syndrome, young hyorin chose to live in her fantasies and wanted so badly to believe that her life was something more. she would just stare at people walking by, making up their own life stories because her own was just so dull. since she wasn't special, she would live vicariously through others.

then when the era of video games truly took south korea by storm, she delved into the world of 3D graphics and digital stories where she wished she could just switch lives with her avatar. the amount of time hyorin spent in rabbit doubt was staggering. you would assume it was because she was an amazing player, but she wasn't. she could never guess who the wolf was, and alternatively, she was too awkward to lie her way out of anything if the role landed on her. what she enjoyed the most though, was the stories people would come up with. she would imagine what other players were feeling behind their screens. were they nervous? sadistic? did they use this same excuse every time a lynch mob approached them?

to say that she lived for distractions would've been understatement of the year.

—— 2. she tried to pretend to be a boy when she first downloaded rabbit doubt but found it too exhausting to keep up.
—— 3. hyorin is surprisingly a very decisive person? people assume she's always on the fence, but she can choose between two options easily. (she usually chooses the one that best benefits the group.) others say that this is because she thinks too simply and doesn't take into account consequences.

how do they act around the other players:
hyorin is not a leader and much prefers being a follower. honestly, she's probably very susceptible to paranoia, because she's aware of her gullible tendencies and she's afraid that once others realize she's not the sharpest tool in the shed, she'll get taken advantage of. because of this, hyorin tries her best to stay as quiet as possible so no one will suspect and deceive her. however, in a game where teamwork is paramount to their survival, she does try to interact with others but only within small groups. additionally, she tends to feel safer around women, so she may distance herself from the boys of the group.

any ideas for interactions between the characters:
1. [ whole group ] people assuming that she's the wolf because of how shifty she seems at the start, but then hyorin's like 'LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF HOURS I PLAY, COMPARED TO THE ABYSMAL AMOUNT OF WINS I HAVE. i can't possibly be the wolf!' and everyone's just like...'yeah she's pretty shite at this game lolz.'
2. [ sofa ] i can see hyorin just being starstruck that 'sofa' (who i assume would be a pro player) is in her presence. she will definitely start talking game lore, and geek out like there's no tomorrow. also, in an attempt to become a better player and a more helpful teammate, i can see hyorin going to 'sofa' for advice on the regular. hyorin probably would be sofa's #1 follower because that girl knows what she's doing.
3. [ chewing gum ] these two would probably cling to each other with how soft they are. i feel like hyorin would try to play the mom role and just give her hugs and pet her head.
4. [ gone bad ] she would avoid him like the plague since he looks suspicious af.

how do they act around their love interest: it's a bit strange that hyorin had a crush on him, especially since he was so absolutely different from her. but it wasn't his brooding self that caught her attention, it was the small glimpses of a smile, or the faintest of chuckles that really made her heart beat. at first she had only tried to get close to him because out of everyone in the group, he seemed to be the most withdrawn, and she just found it the easiest to approach him first since he didn't seem that intimidating and hey, maybe he needed a friend. (there's that trusting character shining through.)

as she got to know him, she found out he was actually a bit like her? in terms of loyalty, at least. he was definitely much more level-headed and intelligent compared to her. in him, she not only found a friend, but a confidante which was a surprise to her because she never thought she could open up to someone that wasn't the same gender as her.

how would they react to their love interest dying: if 'sentimental' was ever accused of being the wolf, she would stand up for him blindly because she just cannot comprehend how a nice person like him could secretly be the antagonist of the whole game. when her pleas fail and he dies, she would be absolutely devastated. in fact, she would probably drop her whole easy-going facade and mirror more of sentimental's personality - quiet, reticent, and anti-social. either that or she would go full crazy towards the person that first pointed their finger at him and accuse them of being the wolf.

ideas for interactions with love interest:
1. after they both become relatively close, hyorin proposes that they do a pinky swear to always have each other's back no matter what. 'sentimental' finds it a bit cheesy, but relents because he doesn't suspect she would ever betray him. they link their fingers, and hyorin gets embarrassed from that one second of contact. but instead of pulling away after they hook pinkies, 'sentimental' grasps her hands and links his fingers with hers. it's more like a handshake of friendship for him, but the poor girl's about to faint from the skinship.

2. after the first rabbit is killed, hyorin is terrified and goes to 'sentimental' for support, but then she finds him even more torn about the game than her. she feels compelled to comfort him, so she pushes her fears to the side and pretends to be brave even though she doesn't believe her own words. 'sentimental' sees through her feint, and in an attempt to lighten the mood, he teases her bad acting and they both just bitterly laugh at the reality they're trapped in.
