- It took Frisk a good hour to reach a working pay phone. Scrambling in his coat he fished out some coins and slotted them in frantically dialing his home phone. A click and a sweet voice picked up at the other end after what felt an eternity of waiting. "Hello? Dreemurr residence Toriel spe-" Interrupting his mom wasn't something Frisk took pleasure in but he was in a hurry. "Mom, it's me, where's Az? Did he make it home this morning? What's he been doing all day?" There was a slight pause before Toriel's soothing voice came through. "My child, you're safe. That's good to know. Last your secretary saw of you -" "MOM, PLEASE, I'm sorry I couldn't get in touch but we're in big trouble, I need to know, right now, about Az! Please!" Tears were beading at the corner of Frisk's eyes.
- Hearing the panic in her adopted sons voice Toriel immediately told Frisk everything she knew about Asriel's location that day. " He left the same time as you this morning. He never turned up to the school to help out and his.. father hasn't seen him either. When I heard you'd gone missing too I.. I .." Gentle sobbing hiccups rang through the line. " I'm so sorry mom. I didn't mean to shout at you.. or worry you. A lot's happened today. Thank you. I promise I'll tell you everything as soon as I can but if you hear anything about Asriel let my office know, I'm heading there now." Frisk could hear large muffled paws fumble, probably wiping her tears away from her kind face, he thought. "Be safe my child. I trust you to do the best for us all. You always have. Please find your brother and bring him home." Frisks chest swelled with emotion. Wiping the tears from his eyes he nodded. "I will, Mom. I promise I'll bring him home no matter what." The phone clicked as it was hung it back up, finalising Frisk's decision.
- Frisk had to bring Az home. He'd done it before he would do it again. Not knowing why his brother was doing what he was doing didn't matter. Frisk would stop him and save him. First things first, thought Frisk. He had to get to his office. It was time to call in a favour. Flicking the phone off the handle Frisk quickly tapped out a number from memory and waited with bated breath for someone to pick up. A click and a whirr made Frisks heart plummet to his toes. "HELLO, YOU HAVE REACHED THE PAPYRUS RESIDENCE! I'M OBVIOUSLY OUT BEING INCREDIBLY AWESOME SO PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE AND I'LL TRY TO MAKE TIME TO CALL YOU BACK. NO PROMISES, NYEH!" "Shit" murmured Frisk. Not home. There was a few more favours he could call in so he got to it. Call after call but no one picked up. No mobiles no home phones, nothing. The phone slammed against the wall of the phone booth, cracking the glass. Frisk regretted his actions immediately . In his fit of anger he had damaged the receiver. Nobody could help him. He'd called out but nobody came.
- Slipping out of the booth Frisk headed in a singular direction. He still had no idea where he was. The city was so huge he'd never truly explored it in entirety. Wherever he was it was derelict. The paint on walls peeled away in tiny little flakes, raining on Frisk as a late night breeze passed them by. Signs posted by people that were long dead plastered the walls of an old abandoned railway station, boarded up with rotting wood that sank into the recesses where the windows used to sit. The cold night air blew around Frisk as he clutched his arms and shivered, marching on. The cracks in the pavement slithered out into the nothingness beyond the barely functioning roadside lamps. Running his hands alongside the moon cooled brickwork Frisk sunk into his memories, wracking his brains on how to solve this situation he was in.
- Was it truly Asriel who had committed this crime? Frisk could never remember any horrible things his foster brother had done in the past. Sure, there was the odd incident, the fake phone calls, the 'kidnapping' he'd subject Frisk to whenever he was away for too long. The attacks on anyone getting to close to Frisk who wasn't family and the occasional crying and bleating breakdowns but all in all he was a healthy individual. Heh. Healthy, thought Frisk wryly. Considering what had happened last spring.. No matter how he turned it over in his head, Frisk couldn't see Asriel as a murderer and soul theif. Not these days. Sure, he acted incredibly strange around Frisk but it was harmless, mostly.
- Frisk chuckled. It was Asriel's kidnapping attempts that spurred him onto learning how to escape from bindings in the first place. It sure had come in handy tonight. Where Asriel had gotten that chloroform from was still a mystery to this day. Interrupted from his reverie, Frisk could hear a low droning coming from ahead. The first signs of someone other than himself made Frisk speed up his pace as he headed towards the noise. Going from a quick walk to a steady jog and then a sprint, Frisk turned the corner only to stop, slamming into a yellow and black object tumbling with it spinning and whirling over the glass strewn ground, picking up cuts and grazes as he went. "I'm so sorry are you ok?" Lying below Frisk was the last person he'd ever expect to meet out here. Monster kid. Or, to be more current. Monster man.
- "Yo, watch where you're goin bud-" Mm's countenance fell when he saw his 'assaulter'. "Frisk. Fancy meeting you here." Frisk grinned. "Monster, buddy, am I glad to see a friendly face. I need to get to civilisation, as soon as. My family's in trouble and no one else is answering their phones and.." Tears streamed down Frisk's face as he realised how alone and helpless he had felt. Trying to be strong was all he knew but right now he broke down, burying his face into his hands, sobbing. Making a noise of Disgust, Monster looked at Frisk. "Look buddy, I can see you need some help, I'll do what I can. Don't expect no hugs though buster." Frisk burst out laughing. "Since when did you get good at puns, Monster?" Seeing the look in his eyes, Frisk realised that he'd not been punning. "Ahem.. well, anyway, I appreciate your help" Frisk said, wiping the tears from his eyes and picking monster up while patting him down, whisking the glass off him. Recoiling at Frisk's touch monster began yelling. "DON'T COME NEAR ME" baring his fangs and snarling. Frisk was stunned into silence by his outbreak.
- "Monster, I.. " At a loss, Frisk felt useless. He normally thought himself able to befriend anyone but ever since long ago Monster was always like this with him. He was a kind and gentle soul but whenever Frisk was involved he seemed to become a different animal entirely. Any opposition from within the monster society would almost always come from him. As a high ranking detective in the police force, managing to charm his way into the human establishment first filled Frisk with sorrow. The things he and Monster could accomplish together would dwarf the work that he'd already accomplished Frisk thought. Heading off opposite from Frisk, Monster motioned for him to follow with his head. "Keep up if you want to see civilisation." Monster began walking ahead, long strides with his long legs forced Frisk into a jog to keep up - He really had to exercise more. All those ambassador dinners and political events had made him unfit.
- "I take it" Frisk said between puffs of breath, blowing away into the night time air "It's your day off, huh? I always thought you were married to your work." Making a noise of disgust, Monster swiveled his head and glared back at Frisk. "What do you know of my work, bro? You sit in your ivory tower pretending to help while me and my boys are out doing the real work." Frisk watched monsters back. "Heh.. used to be I'd disagree with you, but after what's happened today.. I've failed you. I've failed everyone." Monsters features hardened as he stared down Frisk who had stopped dead, staring into the ground. Monster's tail swished back and forth scattering glass on the ground. "Stop being so pathetic. Who cares if some monster did something bad, man up and deal with it." "Yeah.. I guess you're right" Frisk said, straightening up and moving forwards, bumping into Monster yet again. "YO I ALREADY TOLD YOU NOT TO TOUCH ME, NEXT TIME YOU DO IT, YOU'LL REGRET IT, I PROMISE." Moving off, Monster broke into a heavier stride, Frisk had to nearly sprint to keep up.
- After a while, the lights began to soften, the harsh glare from the older style lampposts gave way to the more gentle luminescent kind that Frisk knew. In the distance he could hear the clamour of people in their vehicles, going about their nightly business. Further behind the noise of engines was the familiar steady stream of the River that lead up to his Offices. Lined with Golden Flowers that glowed in the nights light. "Here we are, Frisk" Monster said, the disdain dripping from his lips. "I'm coming in with you, there's someone I need to talk to." Frisk only nodded and silently followed the Armless monster.
- Spinning through the office doors, Frisk looked at the lobby, empty as it was this morning, yet darker and more sinister. The warm lights were colder this time of night, the extra illumination covering the paintings and furniature switched off. Only the main beam lights illuminated the pathway up the stairs. Monster was walking some distance behind Frisk, staring at the floor as he trudged on. Frisk practically danced up the stairs, happy to be somewhere familiar. Following, Monster kept up with ease, his long legs taking the steps a few at a time. Just down the hallway to Frisk's office, he noticed a small light. Tsundere plane was still here. Must be tying up the loose ends Frisk had asked her to earlier he thought.
- "Hey Tsu!" Frisk called out. "I'm back". Looking up from the papers she was rummaging around with, Tsundere plane jetted over her desk the moment she noticed Frisk, embracing him in a hug. "You huge baka! Why are you such a mess? You're covered in cuts and bruises and your nice suit is ruined! I swear I don't know why I bother Recommending a good tailor if you're just going to destroy your suits time after time." Frisk grinned as Tsu puffed her cheeks, tiny bits of steam clouding behind her eye..? glasses. "Sorry to worry you. But I need to ask you another favour. Do you know where-" Tsundere screamed a high pitch scream, shattering Frisk's concentration as she bustled past him heading straight for monster who Frisk had just realised had followed him up to his offices. "Hunny bunny!" Monster leaned his head into Tsundere plains.. head as she somehow embraced him. "Frisk! This is the guy I was mentioning earlier. My boyfriend, Monster!"
- "Oh". Frisk was stunned. Monster and Tsundere? An item? Normally Frisk would think up the perfect pun for this moment, but his brain was full of thoughts of a certain goat monster. "Tsu, can I have a word with you? Privately please?" Pleaded Frisk, staring down the couple noodling with each other. "Sir? Anything you have to say to me you can say to my hunny bunny too." Frisk clenched his teeth, trying to stop his fists from shaking as he balled them up. "It's about internal affairs, Tsu. It'll just be a moment." Huffing and puffing, Tsundere plane released her grasp on Monster as he visibly sighed in relief. Frisk opened his door and beckoned her in. "Sir, that was entirely inapp-" Cutting her off, Frisk quietly locked the door and turned to face Tsu. "Have you.. seen my brother, Tsu? At all today? What about dropping this parcel off?" Frisk pointed to the small box lying open on his desk. He'd not managed to tidy it away earlier. Hesitantly, Tsundere looked from the box back to Frisk. ".. No sir. Not today. Not ever inside the embassy." Frisk sighed. He had to find his brother. Soon.
- Switching gears, Frisk looked to Tsundere Plane again. "So.. you and monster huh?" Tsundere plane began blushing as puffs of air began blowing out of her propellers faster and faster. "Yes, we've been together nearly a year now. He's great isn't he?" Mumbling a half hearted agreement, Frisk walked around his desk and pulled open a drawer. Sliding back a secret compartment, Frisk pulled out a small square shaped bit of paper. He'd hoped not to have to do this. "Tsu, how did the blackout go? Did anyone else find out about the.. situation?" Puffing up with pride, Tsu replied; " All went well sir! Complete blackout! I was just making sure the authorities were kept out of it, too. Monster helped with that, even though he's not been working the past week, he went to the offices personally even though he didn't know what he was stopping them from reporting I used your seal sir. If that was ok?" Frisk looked out the window. The moon highlighting the golden flower pathway, glowing even in the dark night, the silver moonlight combined with the gold to create a subtle blue hue. "That's great, Tsu.. that's great.." Lost in thought, Frisk twirled the small bit of paper between his fingers, humming a familiar tune. Focusing.
- "Thanks again, Tsu. Go home with your Boyfriend. I'm glad I could finally meet him." Tsu was beaming, her blush reflecting off the glass panes. "Sir.. What are you planning to do? That bit of paper you have.. " Frisk smiled at Tsu through his reflection. "It's a last ditch effort but it's the only option I have left." Lowering her altitude, Tsu stared at Frisk's back. "You're not alone, Sir. Please, you don't have to-" Frisk turned to face his secretary. The smile on his face lit up the room as his gentle eyes stared deeply at her. Piercing her soul. "Thank you Tsu. This is something I have to do myself. He's my brother. No one else can stop him like me." Focusing hard, Frisk opened the tiny square bit of paper. On it was a picture of him and his brother sitting below a tree, surrounded by golden flowers. "Let my parents know I'm bringing Asriel back home. No matter what." With that said, Frisk began focusing further, humming that familiar tune, clutching the bit of paper as it began to glow in the low light. A red hue surrounded Frisk and before Tsundere could say anything further, he vanished.
- Falling to the ground where Frisk stood was the picture he had held bursting into a deep red flame as it hit the ground. The smiles of both children twisting and turning in the heat.
