  1. 1. (Security roll: 23) The Tiger Lords came back from the south, having bolstered their numbers somewhat, and are in the Glenbon Uplands once more. You have heard rumors of a conflict between them and Hannis Drelev, but they might be unfounded, as you are certain there was never any actual battle. Your sources think Drelev might have treated with the Barbarians, though what he gave them to stave off their attack they do not know - Hannis Drelev is still very much in control of Fort Drelev.
  2.
  3. 2. (Security roll: 12) Additionally, Drelev has closed upriver trade entirely, demanding that any goods from the south be sold to his own warehouses and merchants who peddle them upriver themselves. Word is that Drelev is reselling the goods to Brevoy at a huge mark-up, one that most of the lords are unwilling to pay.
  4.
  5. 3. (Religion (nature) roll: 10) The horse that the black sisters had pictures of in their notes is named Windchaser, and the Mastadon Hillstomper. They both live somewhere in the Uplands.
  6.
  7. 4. (Arcana roll: 20): If you were in Ilthuliak’s place, you would have taken measures to ensure that Amvarean cannot be revived.
  8. Knowledge arcana w/ bonus from the library (22): Dragons are masters of arcane magic, and there are spells that prevent ressurection. Hellfire ray, for example, consigns a target’s soul to hell. Perhaps there is a divination spell you could use to determine where Amvarean’s soul is, and to scry upon it to see what form it is in.
  9. Knowledge religion w/ bonus from the library (32): While dragons are not typically devout, it is possible that Ilthuliak had help from a devil / demon of some kind. Old dragons often will have debts they can call in from across the planescape, or Ilthuliak could have another ally that didn’t show up at court, there are creatures from hell / the abyss who can consume a soul. Another possibility is that Amvarean simply is unwilling to come back. You have never met the dragon, you cannot say. He might either not care about your plight or perhaps Ilthuliak has some leverage over Amvarean to threaten him with should he return.
  10. Knowledge nature w/ bonus from the library (42): The wriggling man is clearly a master of nature magic, as you saw in the throne room. You are fairly certain that the wriggling man raised the Stag Lord from the dead (usually not something nature magic can do, but he is clearly an unusual druid). If he did the same with Amvarean’s head, raised it from the dead, Amvarean will not be able to be ressurected until you slay such an undead. Or, perhaps Ilthuliak is working with Nyrissa, two beings of such great power and questionable motives in close proximity, an alliance would not be unusual. Nyrissa’s powers are a complete mystery, so it is possible that she has a piece of Amvarean’s soul with her in her realm of thousand voices. You did find that Count Renalc, her one-time lover was a practitioner of shadow magic, and he was known for stealing people’s shadows, which are a fundamental part of their souls.

  13. 5. (Army roll: 15, d100+15 to see how the battle went: 96) - House Medvyed feinted into the Gronzi forest in an attempt to pull the Orlovsky troops away from Skywatch. One of your commanders, Vulwyn of the Tuskwood, saw through this ploy and led a sizable portion of the Gronzi elves up to Eagle’s watch. He took the Medvyed army in the rear while the Orlovsky forces held the castle. The battle went extremely well, with very few losses from the Orlovskys, and ten influential prisoners taken from among the Medvyeds, including the Duke’s only brother, Davar Medvyed. The Medvyeds are bringing this issue to court in New Stetven on July 7th.
  14.
  15. Having defeated the Medvyeds for now, Nadia has sent your troops home, and Vulwyn reports that he has no reason to suspect that they were found out. Additionally, he has brought home a staff of healing as a gift to the ruling council of Rivia from Lord Poul Orlovsky, and a “Living longbow” from the Gronzi Elves.
  16.
  17. Living longbow- aura: moderate transmutation. The gronzi elves have developed a special method to build bows out of living wood. The process involves building a bow out of wood that is still living, and carving into it the runes for wood shape, plant growth, and diminish plants, then grafting the bow onto the awakened tree, Gronzi (for which the forest is named). The bow is then left there as Gronzi imbues it with the magic needed to remain a living bow, and then after a hundred years, Gronzi sheds the bow. Only a few such bows can be created at a time, so they are very rare, and it is a great honor to be given one. Each living longbow has different specific magical properties, but they are all adaptive composite longbows with the ability to heal damage done to them (at a rate of 1 hp / day). Living longbows must be watered at least weekly, or they die and lose all special properties.
  18.
  19. The particular bow that you were given, when fired can produce moderate wind that originates from the bow, and flows in the direction fired. This wind carries the arrows fired, giving them the distance special property, in addition to any other effects a moderate wind might have, like kicking up sand or fanning a flame.
  20. Three times per week, when fired, you may produce a severe wind rather than a moderate. This ability acts as Hurricane blast, though it hits in a line whose range is the distance the arrow flew.

  22. 6. Narthropple expedition had set out to the west to explore the Slough and the Uplands. They haven’t been heard from in two months.
  23.
  24. 7. With the strange dead tree suddenly appearing in her throne room, rumors of queen Sami being a witch have resurfaced.
  25.
  26. 8. Rumor at the university is that Nixil has come back with not only the body, but also the mind of a Kobold. His obsession with researching silver dragons has been noticed, and has made some of the other teachers uneasy. While they are supposed to be “good” dragons, most people agree that the best dragon is no dragon.
  27.
  28. 9. (Sanrei nature: 24) Sanrei goes up to the Estrovian forest to meet with his mentor, Alinaera and discuss the Dryad issue.
  29. Alinaera outright refuses to help Sanrei kill Dryads, such an act would be heretical, Dryads are often as old as the forest they inhabit, and have more right to the land than man does.
  30. The thing about carving the heartwood into a likeness of the Dryad that inhabited sounds like Ilthuliak has some spell in mind for which the Dryads are components.
  31. Alternatively, dryads often know many secrets about their forests. Perhaps Ilthuliak wishes to use speak with dead to get the secrets out of the Dryads.
  32. In either case, Alinaera stresses that you cannot go out killing Dryads, as it would be heretical toward nature, and that you must do everything in your power to prevent the Dryads from falling into Ilthuliak’s clutches.
